Utter Genius. Thank you for putting this up. The Associates will always remain one of the finest and most progressive Scottish groups (along side Orange Juice and The Cocteau Twins of course). Sulk and this album are epic.
cheers pal for posting this little gem id never seen this before what a track and could billy look more cooler if he tried sadly missed ...sleep well billy lad x...
OH MY GOD.......saw them live twice, alan rankine could play every instrument ever invented ever ever in the world.billys falsetto and droooone were the best ever...i bet shitforbrains cowell would of said "well mr mckenzie its good but not quite what were looking for!".why does music not move me anymore like THE ASSOCIATES did.r.i.p mr mckenzie i wish you were here
More proof that Simon Cowell is evil (if any is needed): compare his "Ruff Mix" by Wonderdog to "Voluntary Wishes Swapit Productions" by our beloved Associates. Both in the shops at roughly the same time, too.
Thank you so much for posting this. One of my favourite Associates songs. Didn't really believe it would be on here, but you happily proved me wrong. :D
There's a bug with a number of clips on YouTube (not just mine) where Flash player sometimes squeezes them. The file (as uploaded) had the correct aspect ratio. Any ideas?
JohnCR100....That's the georgeuos Marta Ladly. She looks so hot and was featured as vocalist on a few early associates tunes. She was also a member of Martha and the Muffins of Echo Beach fame.
@johncr100 My God, the crush I had on her, from seeing her with Martha and the Muffins in Canada in the very early 80s, through the Associates, and her (all too brief) solo career. (BTW, she's rumoured to be the uncredited backup singer on Roxy Music's song Avalon. Anyone know if that 's true?
She's a professor of commerical design at a prstigious Toronto technical college now.
I met Billy at a party in Camden Town in 1989, well crashed into him actually! due to a stuck door with him behind it. He was a lovely boy with a tonne of problems, and I miss him dearly. He is a legend! and I miss him... x
Remember meeting Billie in Goring-on-Thames when he was recordind at Streatley.Had a beer,he bought us one and bothered to come back to the bar to say Bye!!!
Brings back so many memories. Wish I had a time-machine to go back to when I was sitting in my room with my mates listening to Associates. Happy times.
Excellent video... so psychedelic, shiny and bright, Love this. Merci - thank you for posting this. Billy & Associates thank you for the music legacy.....always brilliant, sheer beauty.

Martha Ladly was one of the two girls named Martha in 'Martha and the Muffins' (Echo Beach). Don't know what happened to the other one.

Great band, great singer, but fuck, doesn't it sound like Peter Hammill? Not that that is any criticism.

Adrogynous as daschunds
Try them out and see
If some brat annoys you
Do what's felt impromtu
Kick them OUT!

The Associates rule. This song is unique in pop music. Such excellent chord progressions and melody. Not to mention his delivery. Fantastic!

One of the best 80s songs.
Not one of the most popular, but one of the most enduring for me.
