Thank you so much for posting these. I wish I had been there to follow Kauffman through his brilliant career. But I am glad that here were some people tere to tape it. He would have loved the internet.
Kaufman had to have some legit amateur training in his background somewhere since they were doing this with straight up catch as catch can here and if he had messed up and his shoulders touched that mat it could have wrecked the whole thing right out of the gate.
I used to watch this every Saturday Morning. Couldn't wait! Lance Russell, Dave Brown right along ringside and by golley we're ready for another big week, Championship Wrestling.
wrestling nowadays is so fucking terrible .. they hire writers for everything guys don't even cut their own promos anymore its ridiculous... they may have bigger guys now and some that are more technical or acrobatic but these older wrestling promotions were by far superior than anything that comes out of the WWE today ...
look how into it the crowd is at ringside. that would never happen today. it takes a genius like Andy Kauffman to bring out the emotion of a crowd. no celebrity today could pull this off. RIP Andy Kauffman. "thank you very much"
@Rayla840 Andy honestly missed his true calling as a pro wrestling manager. I think if he had skipped comedy and acting and done what he legitimately wanted to do (enter wrestling) he might have been ranked right up there with the likes of Bobby Heenan, Jim Cornette, and Paul E.
@CombatSportFan I have a feeling that, had he lived, there would have been good a chance that Kaufman could've ended up a manager in the WWF. Hell, many a manager may have been influenced by Kaufman's swagger and outlandish antics (which Andy, admittedly, borrowed a bit from Fred Blassie). Either way, a really good heel gimmick.
Andy met his girlfriend Lynne on the set of 'My Breakfast With Blassie', NOT in the wrestling rink. Her brother, Johnny Legend, was the director of the film and she appeared on screen briefly, whereupon Andy tried to pick her up right there on camera. It was actually the first time they ever met.
were the women part of the gag? or even pro wrestlers?

I love performers like Kaufman that feed off of hatred and scorn from the audience.

I understand that the Kaufman run almost killed the Memphis territory entirely. Can anyone confirm if this was a good or bad run for Memphis?

@WatchVenusSpa This was a great time for Memphis Wrestling. It got the attention of the whole country

Even though women hated him they still can't say they didn't enjoy the wrestling when Andy gets knocked or beaten up.
A fucking genius man.
Enjoyment through hate, or something like that!!

With a reaction like this, can you imagine what would've happened if Kaufman was an actual wrestler & not an actor? Just wondering.
Also, who was the masked guy that came to the ring with Jimmy Hart?

the fourth one is Foxy, the one Jerry Lawler trained to wrestle him.

The movie took a little artistic license for the sake of the movie plot, made sense for the film.
