I remember this was from a TVB music special featuring Lam and other TVB artistes impersonating him in 1983 or around that time. I even had this programme taped but recently found that the tape had moulded, not to say that I do not even have a VCR player.
I also have the Bertie Higgins original version but Lam sings much better than Higgins does.
@Hokkow wow, what a story, thanks for bringing back the good old days! I'd love to see others impersonating Lam, I think Albert Au was one of the best doing that.
Do you still have that tape? I've done some conversion from VHS to computer file, and can help you do that (for free) if you don't mind. See my wongkit2006 channel's Nakamura concert videos, all converted from an old VHS taped off TVB.
I fell in love with you watching Casablanca Back row of the drive-in show in the flickering light Popcorn and cokes beneath the stars Became champagne and caviar Making love on a long hot summer's night I thought you fell in love with me watching Casablanca Holding hands 'neath the paddle fans In Rick's candle lit cafe Oh a kiss is still a kiss in Casablanca But a kiss is not a kiss without your sigh Please come back to me in Casablanca
While I generally like Lam's Chinese songs, this performance is terrible. How can anyone say his English is good? In the lyrics, "popcorn and cokes beneath the stars" was sung as "popcorn and cokes BELIEVE the stars". He got the "l" and "n" sounds mixed up. I found Higgins' version much better. But of course, this is a personal choice.
Lam is the best! He might mix up "l" & "n", but not "th" and "v" for sure. (Know the difference btw them, huh?) I wonder why u like Lam's Chinese songs. Do you know "l" & "n" are also different in Cantonese and Mandarin? (e.g. 你李)
George Lam's talent in music/songs creation is perfect, missing him to have live shows, hope he will show off again in TVB or other live shows. Wish Ah Lam healthy & enough!
this song is really hard to sing it...all again shows the old chinese singers are WAY WAY WAY better than twins and those other new stars.....like hins and stuff.....GO GEORGE LAM!!!
better than original!! :D

Because of your (otsau's) reply, I checked for a few times.
No, he did not mix them up. /n/ is still [n] because of the vowel before it.

I think at his prime his singing was on international level. I'm serious. And he has written many great songs.

I guess there are many broken hearts
In Casablanca
You know I've never really been there
So I don't know
I guess our love story will never be seen
On the big wide silver screen
But it hurt just as badly
When I had to watch you go

I thought you fell in love with me
Watching Casablanca
Holding hands beneath the paddle fan
In Rick's candle-lit cafe
Hiding in the shadows from the spots
A rocky moonlight in your arms
Making mafic in the movie
In my old Chevrolet

He looked great at that time! I must admit he is the most stylish pop singer in HK.
