I just traded two common wolfs for a red and I love it the red is way more fun! My common were like 12" and one of them moved around kinda but the other was just mean and waited for something to eat to swim by. Can't wait until my red gets big and fat like ur, nice fish bra!
I've often wondered about compatibility with this species, nobody really seems to ever give a straight answer. The only time I've ever owned them I had 2 in one tank for awhile until they began to fight and I had to remove one, so I'm not sure if it was just an intraspecies territoriality issue or what...I know some cichlids can live with them but other than that what would your opinion be?
@Trahira517 They do not get along with other Erythrinus species (themselves). Aside from that I've had no issue with tankmates unless they were small enough to be ate.
@mudfrog seems to me that the wolf can eat the bichir anytime he wants to but he doesnt. the worm is as long as the bichir and the wolf fish cud definitely fit the bichir in its mouth. any reason behind that? cus i really wanna keep one with my palmas and soon to be bichir species tank.
I believe it...My red is only bout 4.5" inches and he tests every fish's palatability with the "How much of you can i put in my mouth" test. So far 1 same size GT picked apart.Funny thing is My hoplias malabaricus at that size didn't bother anything.when he hit 10" though the body count added up really quick. Now at about 13"+ he even flares at me when i walk by.
Thanks! I'm actually thinking about having a 60x24x17 built for him. The 48x18x13 is theoretically big enough but he is so active he would love the larger footprint..
lol he was like: Im gonna kill you, Im gonna kill you. Then you drop the worm: Shit its a bomb!

thank you for not buying a 55. you are one person with a tank actually wide enough for this fish
awinski999 1 year ago
@awinski999 Yea most people still think a 20g is big enough. Bare minimum should be a 40g breeder.

@mudfrog some people make the same mistake with oscars look at my vids and see the result of a large oscar in a 55

What did you feed it when it was small?
pxf5 2 years ago

When he was around 6" he ate a 3.5" RTC x TSN juvi.. I've lost more fish to this pig than any other fish.

My mala has become very aggressive since hitting 11". He will no longer eat in front of me and flares anytime someone walks by.
