In real life, Barnabas Collins as a type of individual persona is original and traditional like an Aristotelian and Epicarus wisdon bearer. This nature of individual persona proves to society a person with the nature of an inventor or you might say, originator of ideal romance. In vampire tales, such a human who may have a deep passion for life and is a solitary type could develop such a connection with universal forces and return from the grave after dead not necessarily as a vampire, after..
We need a new Dark Shadows on everyday after school. Think of all the exercise the kids will get running and jumping over obstacles on their way to see their favorite show. (I got much exercise leaping over the mailman.) Jamie Oliver will thank you, ABC.
@ThymeBottle ...Isn't that the truth ! ? EVERYONE that is our age that watched this show... RAN all the way home on weekdays after school to get to the TV in time... what a bummer it was when the bus was late on occasion and we missed our favorite show !!!
I also used to run home to watch D S. I used to watch it at 4 on Ch.7 est. When it came back on the Sci Fi ch. a few yrs. ago...it was great to see it again. My favorite episodes were when Josette first came from Martinique to marry Barnabas. Also when Angelique put the spell on him.
One year later MPI asked Alan to create more DARK SHADOWS inspired music videos which were released as DARK SHADOWS MUSIC VIDEOS. Using the DS Soundtrack LP with the wonderful and melodically eerie and haunting Robert Colbert music along with Jonathan Frid's masterful and poetic orations, video clips from the series were carefully chosen to compliment the brooding and charismatic vampire we all came to know and care for as Barnabas Collins.
I watched Dark Shadows as a kid and I too had the LP. Nittysdad.. thanks for the posts, it was nice to learn who created these videos after all these years. I wonder if he created any more videos. Would you know if he is still alive?
Glad you are a fan like myself who ran home from school every day to watch DS. I am so glad to see the show has grown more and more in popularity over all these years. Alan is alive and well and chained in a coffin in the secret room in the Old House. If set free he would be happy to create more videos. Did you read CHRISTMAS AT COLLINWOOD? He wrote that and it was performed at the 1999 DS Festival by 4 actors from the original show. Enjoy the videos and tune in for more details.
and the idea to create DARK SHADOWS inspired fillers between episodes was conceived by Alan Matlick at that time. He first created the "I BARNABAS" music video which debuted on WNYC. Jonathan Frid saw it one night and liked it so much that he contacted Dan Curtis Productions and MPI and Jim Pierson to get a personal copy for his collection. Later, MPI asked Alan for permission to use the "I BARNABAS" music video at the end of one of the VHS home releases. more...
WNYC began airing the syndicated series and played two episodes a night at 11:00PM & 11:30PM. WNYC ultimately brought DS fans episodes that had not been previously syndicated or seen by anyone for more than 20 years. Alan supervised the re-mastering & reformatting of the series to air without commerical breaks during its run on WNYC. Without the commercial interruptions the episodes did not run the full half hour.... more...
"I'LL BE WITH YOU ALWAYS" the music video and many others were sold through MPI Home Videos for a VHS home release called DARK SHADOWS MUSIC VIDEOS. It was subsequently issued on Laser Disc and is now available on the compilation DVD "DARK SHADOWS BLOOPERS & TREASURES." It was produced by Jim Pierson and the creative editor for the entire project was Alan Matlick. Alan Matlick was a Broadcast Engineer for WNYC-TV, Channel 31 PBS in New York. more...
I loved Josette's music box and finally found one. It sets by my bed and it's my favorite bedtime melody. How I loved them all--Vicky, Roger, Barnabas, David, Caroline, Mrs. Stoddard. . .
i don't know about the misic box though. all that money the collins family had... c'mon... SHOW ME A DIAMOND THE SIZE OF FRANCE! lol. that equals love...
I think it's awesome--no one but depp could come close to Frid. I read that depp watched DS when he was a kid, just like I did. Can't wait for the movie!
I have this record and that's my favorite track on the record. My husband passed away 7 years ago and I just happened to play this song today and it really made me cry. I just loved Barnabas so many years ago. That show was my favorite.
I still have the original DS album with this song on it that came out in 1969. Brought back alot of memories, of running home from school to watch DS. Those were the good old days!

No she never posed for that one used in the show but she posed for the portrait in the movie House of Dark Shadows. I never liked that portrait of Josette in the show becuase it didn't look like her.
Excellent! Always a pleasure to hear his fine voice. I still have this LP but haven't played it in years. The clips and music were well coordinated. Love how you focused on Sarah and Josette's portrait when Barnabas says, "Eternally bonded, never apart."
I remember we had an album of Dark Shadows with that song and others from the show. I took it to school in 72-73? as a youngster during halloween and played the album while we all drew scary pictures. It had some great music as I can recall.
