  • Silicone breast implants - new one and old ones alike) destroy women's health. Please don't ever advise your women to do that, it's incredibly toxic. Thousands of women online are very sick, you can look it up. Besides silicone, breasts implants are a mix of toluene, platinum salts and acetone and so much more you can never remove in your body. Please help women, let them know they are beautify from birth, we need your support fighting back manufacturer greed and advertisement lies.

  • @singingmaya Did you even watch the video?

  • @jordanpasek obviously not. He is just doing a search for anything about silicone implants and posting his fears that corporations would rather kill us all to make a quick then they care about human life. Let alone the fact that if they knew people got sick from they're product they wouldn't put it out not cause A. Law suits are vary expensive. and B. It doesn't matter how much you make in the short term if your product does that then you company will eventually go out of business.

  • like if inside out brought you here

  • we need to get richer so all girls can afford implants

  • It's good to keep abreast of scientific developments.

  • Never realized that dog toys make good models of carbon and hydrogen!

  • Nice tie! :D super cool. xD

  • Why don't you call silicon silisium like in Europe to avoid confusion?

  • @fkeopfkeop This is Europe. Nottingham, to be exact.

  • @fkeopfkeop Some of us do, I know that in my language which is Danish it is named "Silicium" rather than Silicon.

I personally prefer that but it's not a major issue I think.

  • @fkeopfkeop Ahh you mean like in the rest of Europe? England is in Europe ;).

  • @NATIK001 yeah, like the rest if Europe. Another strange naming is that you name atomic number 74 tungsten, that is directly translated "heavy stone" in Swedish. While in Sweden and the rest of Europe and it's called wolfram.

  • @fkeopfkeop Actually as I said I am Danish, it's named Wolfram there too, Tungsten means Heavy stone in Danish as well :).

  • Sand bro. silicon dioxide

  • @daspense Not sand, bro, SiH(0-2)+{variable(O[+SiH(0-2)+O)n]}+SiH(0-2)

  • collagen and other proteins is sort of plastic too. The idea that we are like plastic dolls soaked with water and little of oil and chalk powder looks weird at a first glance.

  • so, carbon is not unique element able to make long chains as he's mentioned before. Longer chains - higher viscosity - very much like fats or oils behavior.

  • I have lots of silicon :D

  • He really make it sound so simple that anyone with a little bit of chemistry knowlege from school understands. And his tie is awesome!

  • Thanks for the explanation, Prof

  • I LOVE YOUR HAIR!

  • I love the Prof, but I'll never view his hand gestures quite the same way again. 3:20

  • @boswell255 lolololol

  • This professor rocks, his students too, i have been watching their videos for a few years now and wish i had went overseas to study chemistry. Keep rocking the knowledge Nottingham!

  • dat tie

  • Well done, thanks!

  • I like his hair

  • Green Chemistry !!! xD

  • I really need this carbon models... looks like a toy :-)

  • Tits or GTFO

  • His hair.....

  • omg i love his tie!! and did anybody notice the screensaver in the two computers behind him??? the image moves from one computer to another! that's so cool!

  • @renchen831 welcome to earth.

  • Hey, professor. Did you see/know this Periodic Table of Irrational Non Sense ?

    astropt.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/periodic-table-of-nonsense.jpg

  • The original controversy over silicone breast implants was complete pseudoscience crap. Women who had ruptured implants did get sick. But, the problem is, they got sick at the exact same rate that women without ANY implants did. There was no increased risk for anything that could be shown. But doctors who dared talk about the science got death threats from people operating on passion instead of reason. Certainly don't want ruptured implants, but it doesn't cause cancer or anything claimed.

  • Thank you professor. The new implants are very dense and even when the bag ruptures the silicone does not leak out. Saline implants are just as good now and are getting very popular.

  • I request U. Can u come to My college to teach me ???

  • Love the tie !

  • Just love this channel ! This video, specially, is brilliant but it let me with one question mark... where can I buy a tie like the one shown here ? It´s awesome ellegant !!!

  • The double monitor behind him is TRIPPY!!!!!!

  • Thank you for another great video. Thanks!

  • my girlfriend has two very big Silly Cones!

  • Isn't he sweet?

  • weird.. only 1 dislike.. wonder who is it..

  • I think the point is that the oily silicone from a ruptured implant gets into the body and even if it is chemically 'inert' it could still cause problems, e.g. catalysing/inhibiting particular reactions or simply blocking blood vessels. Of course, the industrial grades may not be so inert either.

  • Oh wow he cleaned up his desktop

  • Silicones are also used in volume as an adhesisve in the engineered Glass and Glazing industry. Dow Corning structural sealants or Tremco are the major manufacturers in America. There are different way of curing also.

    Thanks for the video

  • today's word is "treacly"

  • watch this on mute and just observe the amount of energy the professor's hands use.

  • Lol. Love how he gets all nervous when saying "breasts" XD.

  • Green Chemistry!!!

  • @GuppyPal I saw that too!

  • Those toys lol

  • that awkward moment when you and your audience know u mean boobs , but have too much swag to say it...they know it professor

  • The screensaver at the background is so mesmerizing....

  • Looks like the professor finally cleaned his desktop icons.

  • He cleaned up his desktop :D

  • @nenedunich

    lol he did!

  • @nenedunich You noticed too!<3

  • That was the correct use of the word slurp.

  • PLEASE make a video of what K•Y jelly is made of!!!!

  • @danbison I don't find this joke entertaining :(

  • Other than implants, what other uses do silicone compounds have? Is it mostly just lubricants in industry and science?

  • @clodester i think this is why the invented wikipedia...

  • In Britain and in Europe? Since when is Great-Britain no longer a part of Europe?

  • @leeslampie omdat engelsen nogal nationalistisch kunnen zijn heeft dat een effect op de taal waardoor europa en groot brittanië apart worden genoemd.

  • @leeslampie He clearly means mainland, continental, non BBC ruled EU nations

  • You are probably familiar with breast implants, like this one my lunch came in.

  • Wow! The desktop is, Finally, cleaned-up.

  • Personally I'd like to know how does the process of making these chains look like. And more importantly: Do we get a pure n-long chains substance depending on a type of process, or a mixture of similar chains, depending on the time the substrate has been processed?

I just hope my question is clear. My english tends to get worse lately :/

  • "Inside it is a much more liquid like material, like that, so that the artificial brest has a feel that is quite similar to the natural tissue. *stop for a moment, think about natural tissue...* "

  • shame that people are so insecure that they have such things done

  • @joethegreat09 Some people just got breast cancer.

  • Fake boobs look sensational in dresses and sexy tops. But they are masters of deception. Get them naked and alone and they’re nothing but sad, misshapen fleshsacks of no integrity. They promise much, but deliver nothing and invariably disappoint with their performance.

  • @SexyToshi You have met the wrong implant specimen ;)

  • @SexyToshi Well said sir.

  • ooh he cleared his desktop. ><

  • Good videos Prof!

  • A bit disappointed that Debbie didn't do this video. :(

  • @seahawk124

She has no interest in those... because she has no need lol

  • I think this was the least sexy video ever to discuss breast implants. Fascinating.

  • @kowalityjesus It's a nice change isn't it.

  • @kowalityjesus the less hot video on silicone implants, and therfore the most cool.

  • tits

  • Back around 10 years ago there was some information online about a Nazi scientist (the same guy that created Zyklon B) who visited DuPont and helped invent silicone. I wonder today if there is truth to that. He was the same guy to invent purple die and the magnetic tapes to record on. I can't remember his name, but he worked for I.G. Farben and was key in creating synthetic rubber tires for their cause in WW2.

  • @animateclay cool story bro

  • @animateclay Purl

  • @animateclay Oh, I remember his name. Otto Ambros.

  • @animateclay I found on Wikipedia this information about him that at least shows that the story is partially true: "Ambros was arrested by the US Army in 1946. He had tested poisons and chemicals on concentration camp inmates, and had overseen the IG rubber plant at Auschwitz. He was trialled from 1947-8 in Nuremberg and sentenced to eight years. He was released from Landsberg Prison early in 1952."

  • Instead of rambling about boobies and feminism, I found the chemistry very interesting.

  • The professor has cleaned up his desktop a bit! :P

  • Implants are not just used for cosmetic augmentation, but also for reconstruction after injury, cancer, or to correct severe natural asymmetry which might be causing the woman distress. They are also used in other parts of the body, as are hard silicone rubber implants in both sexes to replace lost muscle for cosmetic reconstruction. Silicone polymers and oils (and fluropolymers) are also very useful for tubing and other medical apparatus. Heck most people probably have silicone bakeware!

  • yo, that tie is hot!

  • This video makes me think about plastics and/or polymers in general. Do you have a video on polymers?

If not, would you consider making one?

  • I just do not get the fixation on breast size.

As long as they work and do their job (feeding the baby) it's all good.

I personally do not care what size they are as long as they are all natural.

I find breast implants and botox disgusting and very unsexy.

I do not date woman that have had any of this done to their body.

Finding a woman with a healthy mind and unmodified body is getting hard :/

    Quite sad.

This misuse should be more controlled.

  • @labobo I respect your view on the matter but you must understand it all comes down to personnal preference. Some men like it, and some other men simply don't mind, like I do. If a woman wants to modify her body in a way that will make her happier and more beautiful more to the general eye, well it is her own choice. People often seem to think that a woman who has had plastic surgery is not as "refined" or perhaps even "educated" as another. This is all untrue.. it's simply preference.

  • How did you get your screen saver to span two screens? Is that windows7 or OSX?

  • @DrakeDorosh That's windows

  • wow i always taught they were the same lolol.....

  • I love these Science in the News videos. Nice work!

  • I always wanted to see him do a boob vid,lol

  • Did anyone else notice the magic letters moving across screens?

  • Would never put silicone in my body! Wonder, then, if they are mixed with BPA or phthalates.. Can I ask, then, how SILICA (as in the silica gel dessiccant packets) differs from silicon or silicone? Thank you very much for your videos!

  • @KungZoo there is no BPA or phtalates in those implants. They are purely made out of silicone. As the professor explained, depending on the chain length, you get different types of silicone. Rubber consistency up to gel consistency

  • @djteac ok, thanks. I thought I heard the Prof talk about plastic outside layer containing the gel. Probably need my ears de-waxed. :(

  • @KungZoo Silica is silicon dioxide (SiO2).

  • @nhf04 Thanks. I'm not knowledgeable about chemistry at all, but I'm looking in to the effects of silica dessicant disposal in landfills.

  • I giggled every time he said "breats"

  • Katie Price dislike this

  • I prefer anything natural over fake. I suppose if it really boosts one's self esteem, hey, go for it. Being that Silicone *is* quite inert, I don't really see what it can do directly, but I can imagine if a boob breaks, it can possibly disrupt other natural processes. Ladies, leave what you have intact, most men prefer a beautiful mind anyday over someone so vain as to put something foreign in their bodies...masectomy patients excluded of course. Anyways, informative vid! Thanks!

  • I think this is the best video you have ever made, I totally love this vid <3 <3 <3

  • YOU TAKE THAT DISLIKE BACK!!!

  • the proff cleaned up his desktop screen!!

  • I find amusing that they're using a french new article in the beginning, this is a non issue in french, unlike in english, silicone and silicon and dissimilar words in french...

  • That's what happens when you use bathtub caulk to build boobs.

  • Silicone oil (the more viscous type) is used as a fixative for repairing a detached retina.

  • Wow, nice dual-screen screensaver Prof

  • British people sure do like the word "treacle".

  • Hey he has cleaned up his desktop! :D

  • do you think that you guys could do a video on solid oxygen in possible?

  • Does anyone else find it weird that we are learning about boob implants from the professor?

  • I would actually prefer flat chested than anything artificial.

  • @Firesoar13 natural way is to get em prego!

  • @traxxaslover123 Unfortunately it's temporary and afterwards you're left with a saggy mess. For whatever reason, nature is extremely cruel to women and childbearing seems to destroy their youthful bodies. Tragedy :(

  • @Firesoar13 umm, now that sounds like your after a man

  • @leokimvideo Hell no...

My fiancée is a lady... 5' 6", 102lbs, 3' long black hair, black eyes, and beautiful pale skin.

More important to me, she is an artist, loves the same music as I do, loves swimming, parkour, deep diving and mountain biking; she loves to learn, she has a sweet tooth that can keep up with my love of making deserts and most of all, she loves me and can't wait to have a family of our own...

  • @Firesoar13 i think you lost the humor of my tiny comment, and i would never put up so much personal info online, too many strange cats use it for the wrong reasons

  • @Firesoar13 delicious and flat.. mmmm

  • @Firesoar13 psss if you are a virgin that is...

  • No examples? =p

  • Anyone else notice the hand gesture as Martin talks about the breast implants?

  • Low volume in this vid. Girls who tried to get big tits are in trouble . Hooter girls....you're in trouble!

  • I left in the "or" damn just ignore that or

  • Please all the women out in the world. Leave your little or bobbies alone.

I love small ones, so we men are out there. But i have no problems with big either.

I like them all damn-it. haha

  • Ha ha the computer says "Green Chemistry!!!"

  • love the way he says breast and circles his hands in front of camera with palms cupped

  • you couldn't look through a microscope to see molecules because the molecules are smaller than the wavelength of all visible light.

  • @migkillertwo I think he may have been referring to an electron microscope, but I'll give him a pass on this. Good demo model for showing the structure anyways.

  • @migkillertwo you're right, for compound light microscopes, but there are many types of electron microscopes, which fire electrons at a sample to map it. These devices can magnify a sample well over 1,000,000 times.

  • 3:25, Inappropriate hand movement

  • stop waving your hands around

  • @aluisious Well they're british, so it's excusable :P Thnk of it as molases

  • Oh look, he has cleaned up the desktop on his computer! :P

  • I want that tie

  • ...atom models need magnets clued in the ends

~ silicon may be sufficient adhesive

=the balance act shall soon require more hands without modification to traditional chemistry visual models

  • I don't think anyone in North America is really familiar with treacle.

  • @aluisious i'm not :P (Canada)

  • @aluisious I am, but that's only because I watch a lot of british television...

  • @aluisious nope but i've heard of it

  • Comment removed

  • Germanium is also in the same group, are germanium chains possible too?

  • Your hands are shaking :/

  • BOOBIES!

  • Silly cones, natural is best anyway

  • Listening to the professor describe breast implants has made my day :D

  • 4:35 - they are someone elses hands surely!!

  • Thanks for explaining so well this. I heard about in the media, but as usually they care much to scare than to inform and educate.

  • So the chain is like a Ketone but with Silicon?

  • @Snazzydog333 Not a ketone, an ether.

  • Hypotheticaly speaking Professor, Can there be a lifeform that uses Silicone, the same way We use Carbon?

  • @Lea71777

"Can there be a lifeform that uses Silicone, the same way We use Carbon?"

Yes and no. It may be possible, but it's unlikely. But, let's assume there was a planet rich in silicon instead of carbon. It's sort of like the problem with phosphorus being needed, but right below it, arsenic being poisonous to most life. Arsenic's binding affinities are good so that it can switch with phosphorus for the beginning of some processes...

    cont...

  • cont 2...

But, later in the processes, arsenic breaks it because it will bind when it shouldn't or not unbind when it should.

Silicon would likely cause similar kinds of problems, but as we continue to learn, there always seems to be exceptions to those kinds of rules.

  • @Lea71777: Probably not, for exactly the reason you just heard. The larger atom gets in the way of many of the combinations that carbon can offer, eliminating the flexibility. Also, the oxide is very, very stable, locking up much of the silicon available.

  • @Lea71777 Not silicone. Silicon.

I doubt he'll respond because he's got more important things to do (not that your question is dumb, he's just very busy), so I'll jump in. No. Silicon can't be used in the same way we use carbon. Its analogous compounds are very reactive even when there isn't any oxygen around.

Carbon is an extremely versatile element, unlike silicon.

  • @Lea71777 I have no idea if a Silicone based life form is theoretically possible.

There is a wonderful short story written by Isac Asimov called "The Talking Stone", where he explores this interesting possibility.

First published in 1955, the story was later included in a compilation of short stories by Grafton Books in 1969 for 2.95 under the title "Asimov's Mysteries".

  • @trespire Hahahahahaha Silicone based life :D

  • Fake boobs is the one topic I thought I would never see discussed on this channel.

  • @adrenacrumb : ...and why not? He did sildenifil some time back, aka, Viagra. The English I(as well as the Russians) are not prudes, just reserved.
