  • @Brendon26 And thats all it is Brendon, your opinion, with no facts involved. How you can say David James is a FRAUD is beyond me....after all David James RAN Prof V's Manhattan school for about 10 years before he died...oh but he doesnt know Prof V's VAJ system? Come on man, it doesnt even begin to make sense what youre saying. Maybe you guys are the ones not doing it right, because it certainly isnt David ames who has it wrong.

  • One knife slash on your palm, finger, arm, anywhere has EXTREME CONSEQUENCES!! Professor James Powers a student of Visitacion had us train with black and red markers and we would attack each other. The marks showed where we would have been cut which would have meant 30 seconds until you faint and pass out on the streets!! THIS DAVID JAMES is leading people to there deaths!!! FALSE sense of security no matter how much tension seems to fill the air, they are delusional!! This man is STUPID!!!

  • @vvvvnewcreation - Did you watch his 10 commandments of self defense? They are pretty much the only significant things any martial artist should know. So who is he stupid? keyboard wizard.

  • My Professor was James Powers. He was a TRUE student of the late Grandmaster Visitacion. This man David James ruins eveything Grandmaster Visitacion teaches. David James may have had "inherited" the Vee-Arnis-Jitsu Branch title, but is leading people astray into a "FALSE SENSE of SECURITY" with this teaching of knife dedfense that i know my Professor James Powers had taught what NOT to do in a street fight and that was "loose" control of the knife, (or gun)A knife slash opens up and blood pours

  • DAVID JAMES,MASTER OF VEE JITSU!!!!!

  • :0)

  • This is a poor knife defense, inside arms showing. chasing trying to grab the knife and brendon26 is right there is no flow here. Whats with the knife attacker coming from down town, knife attacks happen in boxing range.

  • Vee Arnis Jitsu was founded by Florendo Visitacion or Professor Vee, hence the Vee Arnis Jitsu. It is a phillipino art. Arnis, or kali is stick fighting and the tecniques in most phillipino martial arts use similar movements for both. If you have the choice, give up your wallet. If not, Vee Arnis with David James is a good start. I would trust it more than Krav Maga, mostly because I don't have any idea where to find a credible instructor. Good stuff here though. Keep training guys.

  • i just want to make it clear there is footwork in vee arnis jitsu... its call triangular steping... instead of dissing and talking a bunch of nonsence this is for the doubters why don't take a training class. it just might change your mind, remember this is self defence plain and simple...

  • This is just one part of the drill & anyone with sense could see that. Some of you have been hit in the head too much or just want to discredit the man's martial arts ability. Fighting has to be broken in the steps to truly be retained, this is not TKD katas. He is only teaching one part of the total technique. People talk about running, say you've been imprisoned innocent or guilty & this happened, there is no running dude. Once you master this, you drill on disarming the attacker the same way.

  • I can't believe some of the people posting on this thread actually train. See, this is keeping it real here. 95% of Youtube videos just include the Shihan and a senior instructor doing drills, so they look fluid and neat. Krav Maga, BJJ, Systema drills will always look a little sloppy when white and yellow belts are doing the drills. Furthermore, that shyt was tiring and people's technique started breaking down.

  • i did vee jitsu when i was in college about 10 years ago and to this day i have never forgotten it this type of martial arts becomes apart of you the techniques and very natural no katas..

  • Some simple minds here.

This is a drill, not a rote response to an attack.

VAJ is not crosstraining. It may have different elements of different styles, but it isn;t the whole of muay thai, or boxing, or arnis, or jujitsu, or kung fu, or karate. It is a true synthesis of effective methods into a modern and scientific system of combat.

Prof James gives the address. Any doubters should go visit and make their own Youtube clip.

No one else inherited the VAJ system but Prof James.

  • simple minds for sure....Good vid I thought....with some sound principles..great sensitivity drills and great workout......

  • if someone with a knife wants to kill you you arent gonna see it. if they know how to use the knife they walking along. then the knife will be in you. you will only see the handle. if you see them comming they wont pull out the knife, they will fight with their hands and feet, and knife you at an opertune moment. only people that dont know what they are doing show you the knife. give them what they want and walk away. they dont want to kill you. they are showing you the knife for intimidation.

  • your wrong i'm sorry, i've seen some one pull out a knife and stb someone it the lung. the guy was a coked up idiot but if the victim knew what he was doing then he may have avoided getting stabbed.

  • actually im right. everyone talks from the martial artists point of veiw, but as im a knife fighter i look at it the other way. no knife fighter is gonna let you know hes armed untill its unavoidable. if i want to kill someone im not gonna start a fight or anything stupid, im just gonna stab him while his back is turned. what im saying is here is that if someone shows you a knife, dont take the chance, you dont know if he knows how to use it and just wants you wallet or has no idea how to use it

  • Most people who go about stabbing people aren't trained knife fighters but drunk, on drugs or just plain angry, you can train to defend against this but you really can't defend against a knife in the back when your not looking, i actually think we agree on this???

  • sure. also learn any knife defence where the instructor uses a blunt, but real blade and encourages strugling against the technique. then its user discretion when it comes to deciding if the guy is high or drunk, but i'll tell you what, i'd never try any of it out on a sober dude threatening with a blade.

  • If you just want someones money would you actually just knife someone? Or would you threaten them? That is what mugging is isnt it? Its probably good to learn weapons fighting and disarming in all martial arts, Dan Inosanto learned karate knife disarming but he was totally clueless when he first trained with phillipino knife fighters who were wayyyyy diffrent, This is when he was younger WAY YOUNGER. the Dog Brothers teach you how to disarm knifs and stuff because they have ex prison gaurds.

  • @Mider999 i dont think you understood my post. What im saying is that if someone threatens you with a knife they dont want to kill you. if you give them what you have they will nearly always say thanks and run off. Now what you dont know is how far the guy is willing to go if you resist, or how well he can use the knife. dont take the chance. there is no ammount of cash you can carry thats worth more than you life. Only ever risk your life if you will loose it if you dont.

  • I understand there are some arts that teach you how to disarm a knife BUT those arts you reallyyyyyyyyyyy gotta be good at em like krav maga or phillipino martial arts. Now one guy said if they want your cash just give it maybe there deserate if they dont leave after you give em your cash then you really need to know how to take care of this. But yeah you have to be VERYYYYYYYY good and have alot of practice.

  • Absolutly correct. Sifu Lee sounds pretty smart. Knife beats flesh every time and if the guy has any idea about how to use his knife even being very very good at knife defence is probably not gonna be enough. Only risk your life if you will loose it otherwise.

  • Well Sifu Lee trained under Yip Man who is basically or was the grandmaster of Wing Chun. If one wants to learn how to stop a knife they should take Filipino Martial Arts they are some of the best knife fighters int he world or Apache knife fighting. or Krav Maga but it takes ALOT of practice to disarm a knife with your hands even if you have a gun the knife can move faster before you can even get the knife out sometimes.

  • Sifu Lee in new york he trained under Yip Man someone asked him hey what do you do if your under attack with someone with a knife..........Sifu Lee said RUN

  • Yeah thats been done already a Vee Jitsu system ok-but true VeeArnisJitsu nah. I would like to see some videos of your teacher and his students...time will tell all BS.....

  • Prof. Vee siad it best..."There are different types of law...business law, criminal law, civil law...but you are still practicing law. That is why I have so many styles and heirs. " He basically has many heirs that did their own thing and he developed his styles and at certian points in his life, he evolved, while still keeping the old stuff valid. All respect to Prof. Vee and all of his heirs! Osu!

  • To all Vee Jitsu people seek the truth not just whats told to you. Fight not over any of the Professor Vee's systems because they all come from the same lineage. Apply what is important, be humble and train hard. OSU!!!

  • Does the so called true VeeArnisJitsu system have a website with factual information on it or is this some under the cover type of deal??? I know you believe some things but posting in public with no proof doesn't look good for you or your father!!

    With much respect!!

  • If you see what they are doing. They aren't deflecting the blade with their hand or anything. They are actually deflecting at the area of the attacker's wrist, causing them not to be cut.

If you would watch instead of supering out you're arrogance, that would be better.

  • This guy is a very good instructor. He's great at giving them the psychology of surviving a street attack.

  • sum of these guys look like theyre fencing with the knifes lol all of the guys defendings would dead. i would wait for the attack i would take initative to intercept at the inside elbow or at the wrist depending on their stance and distance . or simply runaway if i wernt botherd . and when he's keeping his hands up he jus had his wrist slit 5 times = dead

  • most of them are yellow belts, what do you expect? most systems don't even touch on weapons defense this early in training.

  • It's a movement drill kids. Vee Arnis is the most expanse and versitile fighting system. For anyone who has worked on knife defense there is no easy way to the secure the weapon.

  • securing the weapon is easier said than done. and when shihan demo's...he did control the weapon. this is just a drill anyway, a drill about movement, not self defense techniques.

  • I agree that these dudes would get stabbed and cut, I would "look elsewhere." In a knife fight you will always get cut and/or stabbed unless you have a gun, telescoping baton, etc.

  • He may be the most senior student, but Professpr Vee gave the Vee-Arnis-Jitsu branch to David James. There are other branches of the Late Professor Vee's organization out there like Vee Jitsu Arnis Te system, Veejitsu Ryu, Vee Jitsu '55, Visitacion Kuntao, Vee Jitsu '65, Vee Jitsu Ryu Jiujitsu.

Who is your father then? You are making claims, now you need to back them up.

  • Charles Gerrity and also Jim Roma his most senior students Prof Vee's Daughter a supreme court justice for NY, Embrasses them as true followers and teachers of his system. They where the only ones invited back to her house after the funeral years ago. And at moses powell funeral James could not even look charles in the eyes becuase he knew he was wrong in what he tells everyone.

  • Well the truth be told does your father have any paper work to back up his claim-becuase he doesn't seem to be listed in Professor Vee's will as head of a system. Not to disrespect anyone-okay!! But VeeArnisJitsu is Professor David James and he is the Grandmaster of that system not the head of all Vee Jitsu.

And you are wrong Prof. James started in the 1970's under Shihan Lou Ferrer VeeJitsu Ryu.

Check your info many people are going to blast you..

  • lol wat would happen if ur up against a trained knife using professional or sum one whos been watching to much anime and uses the knife to extend their fists instead of trying to stab u??

  • odds r most ppl use the front stab or jb rather then a slice back and forth. also one main thing is keep plenty of space between u and the attacker.

  • There arms would be sliced to ribbons, dont be foolish and think you will stand a chance.Ur fighting for your life use a coat, shirt, chair to create distance.Grab and controll the weapon hand.Trade places whats that. The reaction has to be simple, practical with no placing hands in the blade path.Try Krav Maga."id rather be slashed in the face than the neck" who is this guy rev.martial art

  • pause at 9 35 u can see he let go of the knife leading to get stabed in the back or side XD

  • why on why oh why are they blocking a knife attack with the FRONT of the hands and forearms - you know the bit of your arm where you have tendons, big ass arteries close to the surface?

Surely better to expose as little to serious injury as possible?

  • awesome...tnx

  • i am a professional medic one knife stab doesnt cause u to bleed to death instantly it makes u shock so is 1 knife cut the first knife cut would cause u to lose and die..

  • but what happens when you go into shock? your weak and cant move, cant think straight..etc

  • There are different theories, techniques, philosophies, etc. The bottom line is everything doesn't work everytime on everyone. Cross-training, evading and countering, parrying and countering all may work, but there's still a chance that even a "skilled" person can get hurt dealing with a wild or skilled knife-wielding attacker.

We should learn from each other's systems instead of condemning someone who's from a different system.

  • We have a saying in Kali.Even some of the best knife fighters donates blood.Chances are you will get cut at some point.

  • I think if they would be training with real sharp steel knives the whole thing might take another turn.

  • they dont listen to thier instructor... hehehe

  • His attacks look good. Very realistic! One thing I don't like about the response is they deflect and then set up again to defend against another attack. Maybe this is just a deflection practice session. But, after the initial deflection there should be some kind of follow up control.

  • just run. for petes sake dont jiu jitsu someone whose attacking you with a knife. you gotta be retarded. RUN!!!!! how come instructors teach student to fight?!?!?! seriously run if you can. only fight if you have no other option, which is rare as kcuf

  • You say fighting should be a last resort, well what do you do in the middle of your last resort? Thats why they teach this.

  • look man i do bjj twice a week and judo three times a week. i carry a buck knife for cowards who wanna stick me. the last thing im gonna do is try to control his knife arm with some crazy jiujitsu move.

if he attacks with his knife im going to attack his exposed wrist or elbow with my knife,

if i dont have my knife out,

im going to PUSH KICK him away to create distance for me to ....

    A> RUN!

or B> get my knife out,

    then C> RUN!

  • True. I carry my buck knife w/ me as well. But you still need to consider what happens if you for whatever reason don't have a knife on you or your opponent disarms you.

  • what im trying to do is convince people that watching a few knife defense videos on youtube will do more harm than good.

NEVER think that you can disarm a knife wielding maniac. if its life or death, choose life, give it a shot fight for survival. but for real, dont watch a few self defense videos and think that you cant be cut. i dont care how tough you are, you are soft as butter when it comes to a knife fight!

  • hell yeah, I've given myself cuts on my buck knife and it slices right through, you don't even know until you start bleeding like crazy.

Anyway, VERY TRUE, you cannot watch a couple of videos and know it all, you need at the very least to practice like the guys in the video.

  • i thought we were watching for entertainment...

  • I agree. What many of these videos don't address is the mental part. A strong mind and a will to survive can make up for a lack of ability. A strong mind with little ability is better than a weak mind with much ability. You don't have to win a street fight, just survive.

  • he wont say hey man i got a knife and im going to attack you ok? are you ready? you will be stabbed and bleeding by the time you think of push kicking or drawing your knife. the only chance you have is to try to control his weapon hand

  • Usually if a guy talks to you when he pointing a knife at you,he really don't want to hurt you its a mindgame he's trying to punk you. However like you said most guys will cut you without a word.

  • on the other hand, if hes pulling a knife..he means business. he can punk me out, if i dont have to fight a knife, i wont lol just realistic.

  • The attacks are good and the initial evasion drills are good. My reservations are the attempts to 'duel' with a knife-wielding opponent having evaded the intial slash / stab flow. The defender needs to 'crash-in' with trap, neck cranks, takedown much earlier on. 'Sparring' with a knife attacker prolongs the ordeal and will make the attacker regain his confidence and become more deceptive.

  • just get back for 30 feet & u grab a stone then u beat him on the head

  • if the enemies got a kinfie ur gonna get hurt. no question about it. if u r lucky and good fighter then u can get it off em easily but its usually just a good idea to run like the clappers and call for mommy :p hehe

  • Not a bad movie. He brings it forward that if someone attacks you with a knife, you will get cut. Not many instructors do that. The circular motion is good also, although I would always follow up with a lock, knock out... like he did at the end of the movie.

One of the best DVDs I think, although a real instructor is still better.

  • You don't ever want to get cut. Go check out the knife defense vid posted by awantex. I walked away from a knife attack once in my life, and i know it was due to luck.

  • Of course no one ever gets cut but you know what? No matter what happens, you can get cut. That doesn't end your life however. You have to keep fighting and control where you get cut. Having been in this situation and studying all kinds of M.A. for 22 years, this is the most realistic knife defense I've ever seen.

  • Yes and having been in the MA for over 25 years myself and having been mugged at knife point, i know its possible to walk away. I also know I still have my scars for it and had the other person been the lucky one I would be dead.

  • You are absolutely right. Walking away is the first and best self-defense, even in an unarmed situation. You obviously did the right thing.

  • I trained with Prof. James many times. This is only 10 min. of a whole video. This is a DRILL teaching how to react to a slash or stab. The video later shows how to retaliate after deflecting the 1st blow. We also do this drill in open space not against a wall. I HIGHLY recommend buying this video, watch several times, then practice! You'll be amazed at how quickly you learn how to defend yourself against a blade. This is as REAL as it gets people!

  • Nice clips for a knife drill. Let me just view all your posting and see if the DVD is worth buying. You know some DVDs are full of crap :-). But this one is a real knife self defense. Scale of 1-10 i'd say 8 coz just like you said you need to retaliate to stop the hitting (that's where the 2 points comes in). You're not gonna dance the whole day right :-).

  • do u have a link to a 10 scale knife drill if so i would like to see.

  • This may be no joke ... bUT WHY DEFEND CONSTANTLY ... NO AGGRESSION . There needs to be an end . Defend then protect and finish , cut or not . Or it is just a game .

  • I have been fortunate to train with Professor David James at one of is seminar he is no joke.

  • Hell, I just don't know what to say. Why would someone drill students UNDER STRESS when they lack ANY SOUND TECHNIQUES!?! This type of drill can be useful, but only in controlled situations when attackers will be attacking with their trainers along paths that the student has drilled defenses for. These guys look like beginner knife defenders & beginning knife users.

  • I know that everyone starts somewhere, but these guys are too inexperienced to be stress tested. It almost seems like they're trying to make it a workout, too. Mostly I see a teacher trying to look impressive against the backdrop of his students' inexperience. JMHO.

  • these are just basic drills to sharpen your tecniques and motor skills. remember that any thing in motion tends to stay in motion. for every action there is a reaction.i can tell you from experience in training and real live situations they do work...

  • If you listen to this dude....you'll get stabbed up...his instruction stinks!!!

  • you just do not have a clue

  • 30 years as a soldier and combat arts instructor says I do have a clue.....it's called life or death...been there...done that!!!

  • Professor David James has been in the Martial Arts for almost that long. He has tested all of his techniques on the streets of NYC. If you would like to try him for yourself go to NYC and look him up. Who knows you might even be impressed.

  • is this professor vee's fighting system?

  • Yes it is. Professor Vee passed away a few years ago and Shihan David James took over the Vee-Arnis-Jitsu system.

  • heres my schools take on the history check it out ckkungfu*com/modern_veejitsu*htm (change * to .) have you ever trained with professor Evans? ps we are modern veejitsu at my school not ve arnis jitsu its all love though!!!

  • hi guys,

that means "Vee" is the name of the founder of this system ? or for what it´s stand for ?

this combination looks very interessting. Never stop training ;>

  • Vee is for Professor Visitaian(sP) who passed away a few years ago. Shihan David James is the the grandmaster of Vee-Arnis-Jitsu arm of Professor Visitaian's martial art.

  • "Visitacion"

  • Thank you I am a terrible speller.

  • Interesting... what was up with the drill at about 6:30? Were those dudes wearing rastafarian colored belts? And why weren't they taking the knives away? I would have taken that SOB away immediately.... and to think aikido takes so much flack on youtube!

  • Those are Master Level Belts. They signify their skill level in the martial arts.

  • thank's for the clarification, I've never seen those before.

  • He was trained in vee arnis jitsu. U pos ufc watchin' dolt. They cross train in many different senarios using low line kicks to knife attacks to gun disarms and even some grappling techniques. These are for street survival not sport combat in a ring.

  • dreadful. full stop

  • Use your BUTT cuz its round and gives you more movement!!! LOL!!! XD

  • Go to NY city and tell him yourself. This is only a portion of his instructional video series, it includes 9 volumes. David James is the real deal.

  • yeah i want to see more of them it's great

  • dont block move and redirect

  • i agree! movig away first is much more effective defense than sticking ur hand into a knife while trying to block it (-_-)

  • I would rather get my hand stabbed trying to block then get something vital stabbed if I didn't block.

  • He is loud as hell.

  • yes man footwork and body angulation is more important than technique

  • intense!
