  • Hey i just bought this harp. its my first one and i was wandering if you could tell me a few songs or tunes that could help me learn. Thanks :)

  • im dissapointed, i bought the blues ms on the strength of this review, but it sucks a lot of air in the low notes :(

  • What do you think of the Lee Oskar harmonicas?

  • @benhewlettuk I want to learn to play the harmonica can get with that? this model has only the harmonica in there too or C? hugs

  • @juuhhful I have G one Blues Harp, sweet sound!

  • for some kinda Mississippi blues would you recommend the blues harp or the big river?

  • have you tried a hohner silver star? I was given one recently as a present, but I'm having trouble bending the notes. I can only bend hole 1

  • essa e boa, e a msm q o Humberto Gessinger usa no Acustico MTV

  • I started playing with a cheap chinese tremolo model I had around my room, about 3 months ago. Learned separated notes, bendings, the basics. Today I have purchased one of these Blues Harps and it gets quite difficult to hit only one note at a time, since the holes are narrower; and I can hardly produce a decent bending. Any advices ?

Also, is it possible to cover every semitone with this diatonic harp via overblows ?

    Thankk you !

  • Hi ben can you do demonstration Blues harp in key of E.

  • Sweet Jesus, THAT was aweome! and I love how into the factory of Hohner,, very James May- esque

  • Hey samuel hope not get one.. It's really hard to play..

  • I have 5 marine bands and one blues harp. Id highly suggest going with the Marine Band, much better tone. Stay away from the Hohner Blues Harps

  • that sounds amazing, love the wood comb, really want one in the key of A

  • That's one nice sounding Harp!!!

  • I found a 15 year old+ Hohner harp in my brother's room. It still plays alright, so I hope that tells someone about the durability of them. Just I don't know what key it's in really cause I'm a newb and the key marking had to come off.

  • @monkeyman123321 I have the same, but I'm convinced mine is a 20 year old+ Hohner Blues Harp. Numbers 1-10 and the key have wore off but the funky dots on the cover plates are still on there. It is totally not smooth and I can't play a note :D I'm getting into it.. What should I do with it?

  • @LuksMoreno dont buy hohner A, watch ronnie shellist video about them

  • Do you prefer this or the marine band?? Idk which one to get... But I'm leaner more toward the Mb...it has a brighter sound right??

  • @thrashinthursday Try both. I'd probably go for the MB, but my first 10hole was a Blues Harp.

  • @benhewlettuk hi ben i got the blues harp and the riff 2:02-2:011 sounds great can you show me how to play it thanks

  • Ben. OK, load them up. Steve Baker is involved on our Facebook site and mentioned he knows you too. If you log into Facebook and search "Blues Harmonica Player" or click on the dot com site homepage it gets you there. Do you do online Skype lessons?

  • Ben. Are you interested to upload some of your videos onto blues harmonica player dot com ? We are looking for this type of video so that our members learn about products and how to play.

  • @BluesHarmonicaPlayr Yes, why not, Ben

  • Your vids are very informative - thanks from a novice!!

  • This is a wonderful video, 5/5. i bought a hohner big river harp recently, but unfortunately i'd rather play blues and be able to solo another instrument... (i mostly do alto sax and piano).

is there a way i could change the tuning of a big river to the same as a blues? i don't really want to buy another, as this one has a wonderful timbre.... but it'll only cost around £20 anyway. let me know ..:/

  • I bought one, a Hohner C Harmonika, but it doesn't sound like I hoped it would. Are there special technincs for making the blues sound?

  • @BalleBaest I don't know where you live, but here (in Brasil) you can find the german Hohner harmonica, wich is pretty good, and you can find a chinese harmonica that's a lot worse(and cheaper), that's ALSO called Hohner, so, If you don't know about that, try findind out what hohner do you have....It can also be the sound of the model you have, and than another harmonica from hohner can have this blues sound you want

  • Wonderful post !

    Thanks.

  • at 2:04 you do an awesome growly vibrato thing. can you do a lesson on that?

  • @freshoffmymind Ok, I'll do the growl, Ben

  • @benhewlettuk Hi, I've just posted the 'Growl' video you requested - hope it works for you!

  • very good demonstration's.

  • Blues Harps are one of my favorite models, but to be honest, I kind of like the older pre-MS Blues Harps a little better.

  • @BluesHarp532 Once again I share your views, I prefer the thinner harps.

  • @akdraw1 Cheer up, it just takes time to learn - anyone can learn to play the harp. Stick with it. I was in a band after a year of playing - but I played a couple or three hours a day. 25 years later I still play every day and I'm improving slowly! Ben

  • @MontagueWaldeck Go for the Hohner Marine Band - it is the son of the Super Vamper!

  • Can you please tell me what key it is in?

  • @MVLINEMAN It's in C

  • I am wanting to learn to play the harp. I want one that sounds like jonny cottons it has a deep tone and a true blues sound. can you tell me what key would give me that deep blue'sy tone? and maybe the name and brand that would sound the most like his? any information is apreciated

  • @MrHomeslicer Why don't you find out what he played and get one of those. You might not sound exactly like your hero but it's a good start! Ben

  • @MrHomeslicer If you are not sure you want to put out the $30 or so (American, not sure how that balances out in other currencies), I bought a cheaper model for my son. A Blues band, about $8. Cheaper made ofcourse, but I was really surprised at how good it sounded. He's been beating on it for a month now and it's still holding up.

  • @Drachtauring Sure, cheap harps can be excellent. Inconsistent, but you can find many a winner if you look. But generally I've found I get what I pay for with harmonicas so I buy the best I can afford and I also get lessons from the best teachers I can find for the same reason. Good luck! Ben

  • aaaa that's the one steven tyler plays in "pink" music video

  • I saw all your harmonica demonstrations on youtube(golden melody, special20, big river, blues harp, marine band, marine band deluxe...) The MB deluxe seems to be a very good harmonica but wich is your favourite ??

  • @notfoundyet1 Out of those I'd favour the MBdeluxe - but check out the Sonnyboy Special on one of my other vids, they are excellent value and come in a box set of 7 keys.

    Ben

  • @benhewlettuk thanks !

  • can you give my this song pleace!?

  • @marklavic Well it's the BLUES - I was just making stuff up, but I'm happy you like it! Ben

  • i love the blues harp, realy good man, saludos a todos

  • Exelente. Regards from Argentina

  • hey that was very helpfull actually thanks and your pretty good what was your technique on that there

  • @triplejayvideos There are a lot of techniques in that bit of playing if you zoom in on it - too much to put in text here. You can skype me if you want to talk about it - email me and I'll give you my skype name!

  • I have this harp. I love it!

  • damn your good.

  • NICE

  • Hi great harmonica but i'm nor shure to buys this one or the special 20.

And as i want to play blues witch key is best for the blues?

  • There is no such thing as a "best key". It depends on te song you want to play along with. Sooner or later you will need at least a couple of harps. G, A, Bb, C, D, E and F are probably the ones used most frequently. If you want to start with only one then an A might be a good idea because it's nice to play in 1st, 2nd and 3rd position. Higher pitched harps are a bit more limited in the higher register.

  • i just got the A blues harp & its absolutely awesome. i would suggest these to anyone who wants to play blues.

  • hey mate. I am a beginner looking to buy a harp and was wondering which is best out of marine band, blues harp or special 20. I want to play all styles but mainly blues

  • for start i suggest you special20 or golden melody ..

cos both of them have plastic combs and them dont swell they are READY TO GO OUT OF BOX. there are no need to reed corrections and other technical preworks befor playing on them, like on marine bands. also bending is very easy and . so bether to start learning on them imo.

  • i just bought a hohner american ace harp. the first reed died within ten minutes. can i get this fixed?

  • Thanks for the video, im 16 years old and harmonicas fascinate me so im buying one and learning how to play by my self :)

I think ill buy a hohner blues harp Key of C just like yours.

One question tho, what types of music can i play on the blues harp? Can i play country and folk too?

  • Yeah man, you can play country and folk. You can play anything on this. It's called the blues harp because it's got that great, gritty bluesy sound. I just got one and it's great fun to play, I'm loving it. It's my first good quality harp and I am teaching myself too.

  • Awesome played

  • i got that harmonica but... man i cant find somewhere to learn¡¡ if u know any page for learn harmonica for free please send me

  • just look the video when you are at 2:11 you see it!
