  • your cars engine should run straight on a idle i have a E90. i wonder if theres a sensor or something not handling the rpms right 

  • @mucbeanz Confused. This car had a rough first idle because its on an entirely custom ECU. Its not a factory computer/engine like your E90.

  • @Zeekbdos Now its complete with a 4" oval magnaflow muffler in the middle of the car. Its a 4" exhaust all the way - a bit loud but sounds good.

  • so you guy sounds smart got a 97 540i with trans fail safe kicking on every trip you drive it ,its a electrical short is my guess mice have did there thing in places but when you swicth the car in neutral and shut it off and turn it back on it goes away until 20 miles down the rode or hilly terain and its comes back on ,where to start its been on my computer and it says high speed output inside trans ,but i also think its in that wireing some whwere

  • I have a question. I have a 525i aswell and its an automatic. I was thinking about getting an intake sytem. Well my question is can I really tune this car out? Even though its an automatic does it still have potential? Can i get a turbo or a supercharger for this car? Is the M5 engine really that much better than the 525i? is it just the size? Can i resize my engine? I wanna make my 525i automatic a beast. What should i do? Anyone please help me I'm 19, point me in the right direction.

  • Not sure I understand, this is a bored over 2.8L, so its a M52 crankshaft

  • well some people stroke the m50s just by doing simple compatible crank swaps and leaving everything else....

    you added displacement by boring it out, so the stroke I guess was untouched?

    I'm somewhat noob to the bmws so excuse me for anything related to nonsense that I type. I'm currently on my way of owning an e30 vert, and I've been on bimmerforums and e30tech for a while now educating myself lol.

  • It is "stroked" for an M50. Stock bore is 84mm, stock stroke is 75mm. This is an M52 crankshaft (2.8L engine from 328) so now the stroke is 84mm and the bore is over 84.

  • @element774 that's the definition of a fully stroked motor right there... increased stroke length + increased bore / piston diameter

  • a "stroked" motor means just the stroke is increased.... not bore!

  • Its on a standalone... it idles fine, it has a 4" open downpipe and thats what it sounds like when you practically have no exhaust

  • I'm really going to have to nail a turbo onto my E34 Track day car. Only problem I've got (well, there's quite a few actualy but this is one of the bigger problems) is that mine is right hand drive so the steering colum goes straight through where the exhaust down pipe wants to go!

  • Why not? Oil was not hot and its a journal bearing.

    I think its their 2700 CFM unit or something. Its loud I wouldn't recommend it for a daily, but I needed a lot of air flow.

  • That is a Giant Intercooler! are you running a fan at all? I am doing a e30 m52b28 swap boosted. Clearance is tight for my coolers. whats the deal, how did you get so much space?

  • It actually didnt need a tune much. It needed the throttle body opened and about 5% more fuel. Drove it 1000 miles after that :)

  • Prob go to the DTA S80 in a few weeks - I need to get the motor broken in before I attempt to switch ECUs. New ECUs are tricky on a new motor because you don't have much opportunity before you flood past the rings and stuff
