Most normal people understand that no one goes out of their way to hit a woman it happens under very stressful and tense circumstances. There is nothing innately wrong with hitting a woman. I treat it the same way I treat a man hitting a man. What is the "overall" situation? What is the history between these two? Who's been abusing who (emotionally, physically, economically, etc..)? Did the person "snap" or was it premediated? Can I blame hip for "snapping" under the specific circumstances? If violence was justified, was only enough violence used to incapacitate the other person or was it excessive?

No, I've never been hit by a guy. Once during a fight my boyfriend said something so insulting that I hit him before even realizing it. I was shocked at my own behaviour and it also ended the fight because I felt so bad about it, I kept apologizing. It would have been absolutely absurd if he had reacted with a "AHA! FINALLY!" and had started hitting me back.

?? Don't know where you live but as far as I can see it's a big taboo for a man to hit a woman, and is considered a crime of domestic violence. I mostly agree (though I think it's also human nature that people occasionally lose their tempers and can be physically rough, and don't think every single incident of someone giving a partner a slap or something should be an issue for the police), but I don't think it's any better for women to hit men or for parents to hit children.

No, I've never been hit by a guy. Once during a fight my boyfriend said something so insulting that I hit him before even realizing it. I was shocked at my own behaviour and it also ended the fight because I felt so bad about it, I kept apologizing. It would have been absolutely absurd if he had reacted with a "AHA!
