  • Like this if Kathy Griffin brought you here

  • i'm disappointed with your pronunciation: i can resist /ʧɛli/ instaed of /ʦɛli/ (because i hopefully believe you read it using late latin pronunciation, not because you don't have that sound in english) but i can't stand /ɹɛdʒina/ instaed of proper /ɹɛgina/!

whatch that "Deum" is just /deum/ without any /j/ making it sound like /dejum/

and nothing can sound less latin than "quia" or "quem" read as /kʊia/ and /kʊem/, and not as /kfia/ and /kfem/

pay more attention to pronunciation! :) good luck!

  • I'm sorry to say but you can hear their american accents in Latin, distracts me from the words. But a beautiful hymn nonetheless.

  • Lovely! Keep teaching this. We had time at the end of communion today, and I sang this chant...the other music ministers didn't know it so I sang it solo...but I had so many people come up to me afterwards thanking me for singing it. People love the old traditions and they've been starved for decades. This is one that should come back. I sing this constantly on my own throughout the Easter season and it brings such great joy...after the sorrow of the Blessed Mother the days before...

  • Thank for sharing with us...

  • My name is Coeli! haha

  • Thanks for posting this. I've sent it to my cantors to help them prepare. I've been trying to make sure our congregation hears this enough during the Easter season so that they learn it by rote!

  • thank you! Now I can memorize :-)

  • Excellent Easter song. I've always liked. Glory to Jesus Christ and his Blessed Mother.

  • Beautiful!

  • does anyone know of any other place where I can find excellent plainchant versions of Regina Coeli?

  • Hi Sisters, Back in the 60's we sang a version of the Regina Caeli and it was a very zippy tune. Do you know anything about that version of the song? I would love to post it to my School Alumni Group. Thanks for any help.

  • Very nice... but UUuugh! Americanised Latin! baaaarrrg!!!

  • very nice, but could someone explain why i've just sung this at our churches patronal festival?

  • Must be dedicated to Our Lady the BVM??

  • yep, but should this not be sung at christmas or advent?

  • If ur church is dedicated to the BVM then its appropriate that it be sung. Its Usually a post Easter hymn but can be sung anytime outside Lent really.

  • AMEN!

  • im personaly atheist but theirs something about these chants that i just think are awesome =]

  • zone mad oishidiesel explore this possibilty. Have you heard of Pascal's Wager?Blaise Pascal was this brilliant mathematician/philosopher that proposed this wager- that infinite reward is worth finite risk. In other words you have little to lose but much to gain.

  • Beautiful! Thank you for posting it!

  • nice!!!! i love it

  • Very Nice

  • That was just amazing! The only other version I've heard is by Robert Kochis, who is also an amazing Catholic singer. That though, was astounding!

  • Laudate Dominum omnes gentes,

laudate eum omnes populi. (ps. 116 - Vulgata)

(see on Youtube v=mabt7GI1FuI - Mozart)

I think that God is delighted to hear so many accents resoundig in his Catholic (-> universal) Church.

    Let the peoples praise thee, O God;

Let all the peoples praise thee. (Ps. 67:5, ASV)

Make a joyful noise unto God, all the earth. (Ps. 66:1, ASV)

'Regina coeli' is one of the most moving motet.

  • Beautifully sung, but it's a bit of a shock to European ears to hear laetare sung with a strongly aspirated English t and an English diphthong ay in the first and last syllable.

  • Beautiful.

  • Today I was thrilled to find this beautiful audio rendition of the Regina Coeli. It's the same version I had heard growing up but had not heard for many years until, on Aug. 15, 1998, I was at a Mass for my brother, whose birthday was Aug. 15 and who had died on Holy Thursday of that year. The celebrant started singing the Regina Coeli at the end of the Mass and all of us old-timers joined in! It was a wonderful gift to hear it again on what would would have been his 58th birthday!

  • Oh Sisters, this is beautiful! It is the perfect way to learn to sing the Regina Coeli. Would you please, please post others just like it "for instructional purposes only", as you say? Any of the traditional prayers of the Church, sung simply, unaccompanied, and in Latin would be a great help.

  • Beautiful!, thank you very much!.

Simple, just the necessary, what I needed to hear. Thank you.

  • Muchas gracias!!

  • Brilliant. In Caritas, alleliua !

  • Thanks, sister!

    Happy Easter!!!!!!!!!!

  • beautiful, very inspirational!

  • allelujah! peace to all.....

  • Hello, Sisters! May I ask whose melody is this version? I heard the "Regina Caeli" based on Mozart, but it's different.

  • This is the chant version, so it pre-dates Mozart and the other polyphonic renditions.

  • Lovely! Absolutely Lovely!

    Thank You!

  • The "choir" consists of me and Sr. Julia (the book review nun) singing in my office on the spur of the moment to create a tool for people to learn the Easter prayer. Because...it's really all about the prayer.

  • Regina caeli, laetare, alleluia: Quia quem meruisti portare. alleluia, Resurrexit, sicut dixit, alleluia, Ora pro nobis Deum, alleluia. Gaude et laetare, Virgo Maria, alleluia. Quia surrexit Dominus vere, alleluia. Queen of heaven, be joyful, alleluia: The Son whom you merited to bear, alleluia, Has risen, as He said, alleluia. Pray for us to God, alleluia. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia. For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia.
  • Thanks....it is cool!

  • Laus Tibi Christi!

  • YES, indeed HE IS RISEN. Beautiful song to Blessed Virgin Mary.

  • Thanks for this beautiful way to pray and for lovely singing!

  • Great video! Nice to listen to in the morning.

  • Thank you Sisters!
