Hey, I'm a big fan, I've watched almost every video and I really enjoyed your Story Of Stuff project. I was curious if you could talk about N. Korea, as they never seem to stay quiet. I would be interested in what you have to say compared to statements made by the Obama Administration and Chinese Officials.
Well one thing you must understand is that the amount of resources consumed isn't at an alarming rate in the U.S. In fact his videos adressed this. Secondly, the way this benefits other countries is really the basics of economics. Trade. Which allows either technological commmodities or finance to be poured into any givern country. When this is done, poor countries are moving towards economical stability and possible restoration from famine.
I wanted an answer to a question asked in one of the critiques of the story of stuff videos. You claimed something like "If we (the US) didn't consume the amount of resources that we did, then third world countries would be worse off." Could you explain how/why that is?
I was wondering if you will be commenting on Obama's pick for the Supreme Court: Sonia Sotomayor. I liked your video explaining the differences between a originalist and strict constructionism. Just curious to what your thoughts are. Keep up the great work!
When you claim that all scientists who express concern about man made climate change are either Marxists or actually attempting to control the population, how are we to distinguish you from other conspiracy theorists?
3) My final question is somewhat simpler. I am curious to know who you think the best president in U.S. history was and who in your opinion was the worst? What would you say contributed to the success of the former and the undoing of the latter?
Given that resources are limited, if theThird World is unable to use its resources for its own development (because we constantly exploit them) then that development will be problematic. If the First World is unable to continue exploiting Third World resources, then First-World economic expansion will become problematic. The economies of both Worlds can't both expand without environmental disaster. In your opinion, how should development in both the First World and Third World proceed?
1) I have heard you mention Ayn Rand only briefly in passing in one or two of your videos. What are your views concerning Ayn Rand's philosophy itself (regardless of whether or not she plagiarized Bastiat)? In particular, have you read "Atlas Shrugged" and if so, what did you personally think of that novel?
2) My other question concerns capitalism's contribution to global imbalance. I am curious to know your thoughts on the relationship between 1st World/3rd World . . .

HTWW your videos wion't help you neo-cons to get higher that the 21%, actually your nonsenses help to shrink you even more. THANK YOU FOR ALL THE BULLSHITS YOU SAY .... YOU ARE HELPING US AND EVEN MORE OBAMA WHOSE APPROVAL RATE IS GETTING HIGHER AND HIGHER ... DON'T STOP, PLEASE!
Why did you make this reply out to me? Did I say something about spelling and forget that I said it? For the record, I don't care if you make a typo. It's the internet.
Obama's approval rating has been dropping ever since he took office.
The term neocon is someone who believes in conservative economic policy but also agrees with liberal social policy... HTWW DISAGREES with liberal social policy (if im not mistaken) thus, he is not a neocon.
That's not a neoconservative. A neoconservative is that of a person who claims to be conservative (small gov't, low taxes, non-intervention) but yet continues to increase the size of government and disregard the Constitution.
Check out YouTube user "SouthernAvenger" for what a real conservative is.
"The term neocon is someone who believes in conservative economic policy but also agrees with liberal social policy..."
Exactly how many neoconservatives do you know of who have a liberal social policy? Gay marriage? Goddamn, according to you, neoconservatives would just be fine a dandy with it, right?
Economically conservative? You mean all the "conservatives" that support bailouts, took bailout money & do nothing to stop the gov't's overspending?
look up the definition of the word neoconservativism... It's not hard.
Why would you carry on a debate with me about what a terms meaning is when it is of a factual nature. It's not like my opinion of neocon is different from yours. The fact of the matter is, you haven't a clue what the definition of the word is, yet you persist in arguing. Seriously, you should have just stopped while you were ahead but instead you keep talking and attract thumb downs...
I am fully aware as to what the definition of neoconservatism is. My problem is with that of your original statement claiming that neoconservatives agree with liberal social policy. For starters, do explain what exactly you meant by that as to avoid any misunderstandings. Do you mean neocons want to become more involved with the morality of other people or do you mean that neocons are more approving &/or supportive of others morality?
Also explain what you meant by the neocon view of ecnomics.
I don't really think a neocon is too supportive of individual liberty and equality. If they were, why try and pass legislation to not allow gays to marry or adopt children? They also don't want the war on drugs to end even though it's a waste of time, money, and effort. You see support of individual liberty and equality with paleoconservatives such as Ron Paul (heavily libertarian), not these neocons. If neocons are for MINIMAL gov't interference in ecnomics, they wouldn't voted for bailouts.
Ok, are you ready for an intelligent reply?... here it comes:
Neocons are very supportive of individual liberties. Its all the supposed "liberals" who aren't. Going to Iraq and liberating thousands of Kurdish people from the genocide that was plaguing them is the neocon philosophy. Liberals call it "policing the world".... thats the difference. Neocons fight to liberate those who are oppressed. Comparing gay-marriage rights to genocide in regards to liberation seems a little funny dont it?
collins, you said YOURSELF when regarding the neocon view of liberal social policy, "The belief that we should strive for individual liberty and equality." If, in fact, the neocons stand for this, then they would have no problem allowing homosexuals to marry and adopt children as it is NOT the government's business. Going around the world and invading every other country that oppresses its people often causes more problems than it solves. Look up the term "blowback" for starters.
Neocons believe that this issue is not an issue of equality. ALL men AND women aren't allowed to marry the same sex. This means that ALL men AND woman are equal in marriage rights. Homosexual marriage is an issue of expansion of freedoms. Should ALL men AND women be free to marry the same sex? The first step in answering this question is, who has the right to define marriage? Neocons say religious institutions INVENTED marriage and thus have the right to define it.
collins, the definition of marriage has ALWAYS been changing. The most common form of marriage throughout mankind's history is one man having several wives. At a time, blacks were not allowed to marry whites. Blacks and whites were "equal" in that they could marry within their own race, but UNequal when it came to marrying outside of their race. They were NOT equal at all, collins. Telling two consenting adults that they can't marry is UNEQUAL.
collins, if a church doesn't want to marry a homosexual couple, they have the total freedom to reject marrying them (& I think they SHOULD have the total freedom to do that). If a different church is okay with marrying homosexual couples, they should have the freedom to marry them. Why should the state be involved in their marriage at all? Why should the state be involved in ANYONE'S marriage? Legalizing gay marriage does NOT force certain churches to wed gay couples.
"Why should the state be involved in ANYONE'S marriage?"
Now you are getting to the point of this marriage issue. The problem today is that the gov't has gotten involved with marriage. As for me, I believe the best way to solve this marriage issue is to have a complete seperation of marriage and state. States can offer civil unions (which give legal benefits and is open to everyone) and Churches can offer marriage and restrict it to whomever they choose (with zero legal benefits).
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Well we may just be able to find some common ground here, collins. I agree, there should be a total separation of the state's involvement in marriage.
Unfortunately, if two people had a civil union, had children, and one of the people died, the relatives of the deceased could take the kids away. People would be more open to civil unions if it was as secure as a state marriage.
Magnusian, I never claimed the definition of marriage can't change or has never changed in the past. I simply said that religious institutions AUGHT TO be the ones who decide when and to what the definition should change.
Marriage laws between blacks and whites are completely irrelevent. Those laws claimed, "If you LOOK like 'this', you can't marry someone who LOOKS like 'that'."
gay-marriage laws say, "regardless of EVERYTHING!!!!!!, you can't marry the same sex as you. It's equal.
YES, collins. Individual religious institutions SHOULD be the ones to define marriage for themselves, but I'm talking about marriages being made legal by the STATE, NOT a religious institution. If a church is against gay marriage, FINE. Irregardless of a church's view, the STATE shouldn't restrict homosexuals from marrying. A church has every right to, but the state should not.
"It's equal."
It's NOT equal at ALL. Two consenting adults SHOULD have the liberty to marry eachother.
The word irregardless is illogically absurd. Stewie Griffin, from Family Guy, would have you killed for using such substandard English (it was in one of the episodes).
"It's NOT equal at ALL. Two consenting adults SHOULD have the liberty to marry eachother."
Lack of individual liberty does not imply inequality. Inequality is when one group of persons has the right to do something another group cannot.
Way to split hairs, collins. It was late when I typed that and I didn't check over it. Shoot me, you grammar nazi twat. I will correct the statement: regardless of a church's view, the STATE shouldn't restrict homosexuals from marrying. Happy?
Collins, if Timmy & Jenny want to be best friends, they can. But why can't Timmy & Tommy be best friends? Do they just want an expansion of freedoms, or do they not have the right to be friends with each other?
"Perhaps that is because we have people who are always getting in the way of us restoring peoples God given liberties.... people like you."
Oh, collins. Restoring people's God given liberties? Which god are you talking about? The Christian god? Hmmm, I don't think the Christian god would be too comfortable with the First Amendment stating that people are free to exercise whatever religion they want. "Thou shalt have no other gods before me" is pretty clear about this, collins.
I think freedom of speech is completely consistent with the proposed character inherent in the Hebrew Law. But this is not a Jewish country, so why would we keep their Constitution? But the Giver of that Constitution would certainly not want Gentiles to be limited in their choice, that He created. Religion can't exist without freedom of choice.
"Why not liberate other oppressed people, oh that's right they don't have any oil, but hey, be best buddies with Marxist Kurds."
Because in order to do anything, we need some sort of ulterior motive. Some way to get others to go along with us, to accomplish what is right. If there is nothing in it for you, why bother, right? We SHOULD go to Darfur and end the genocide there. That AUGHT TO be our #1 priority. Unfortunately, for humanity, it is no where near the top of our list. GM is...
No he's said he doesn't support the Iraq War before, he's also an Independent (or Libertarian) who votes Republican, so he probably liked or even supported Paul.
-Do you believe it is possible for a high school dropout to be smarter or equal to someone who graduated from a college or a university? If the high school dropout did his own research with books, internet and other sources.
-What if one of the causes of inflation was counterfeit money, its hard to make American currency, but easy to create Chinese currency or other foreign currency. As we speak, it's possible that there could be someone out there creating millions of fake currency which is effecting this global recession. Is this fact or myth?
I don't totally agree with everything you say but I think you did a good job with your latest "Story of Stuff" critique. A little misleading with the title "How the World Works", but then again it seems almost stereotypical that conservatives feel they have a better grip on reality then everyone else. News flash: as long as you're a conservative, you are biased and that is reality.
Case in point: Barrack Obama received a book from a certain South American dictator that he wrote titled "I Hate America and So Can You". Is that what you would call a fact? That's what I would call a biased spin. That wasn't the title of the book and it wasn't written by him. I don't know what conservatives expected him to do. Maybe slap him in the face and declare "Duel!"
chjoezen, a "dictator" from any part of the world should not feel comfortable enough with the sitting American president to personally hand him a book of ANY title. Dictators are not suppose to be bedfellows with the President of the United States.
I wouldn't say "bedfellows", but rather clueless. To some of us, Obama looks like a bumbling fool who really isn't very good at planning ahead or anticipating. So, the result is that he often gets himself into thorny and embarrassing situations. Premature declarations on the Iraq surge, closing Gitmo and yes, the book from Chavez. It's like he's missing the part of the brain that keeps folks from painting themselves into a corner. Not only does he make bad decisions.. He makes foolish ones
It's like watching some dude walk across a yard toward a rake. The rake is in plain view, so, any normal person wouldn't step on it. But sure enough, dude steps on the rake and SLAMM!! the handle smacks him right in the nose. I guess he couldn't see the rake. We deserve a president who can.
Isn't it possible that he was more like a well-liked celebrity and someone just came up to ask for his autograph? In that case, was the rake was actually the plane ride to South America for diplomacy in the first place? And how so? I don't know the whole story and that is just it. That is how it is biased. They only focus on what happened and now how or why. That's why it is biased. Politics is like E! news to both sides of the of the news and that includes htww and it sickens me.
I'm not sure what my original comment is since you replied to a comment that is probably 10 pages back.
Your comment was comething about obama being able to do anything because he controlls congress.
the anser is no. Obama can't do half the shit he says he is going to do because even if you are king of the world mathematics still applies to you. You can print all the money in the world but you can't print value. as we print more things get more expensive. $500,000,000,000 candy bar.
To argue that capitalism has made our way of life better is flawed logic. A slave in the early 1900s lived better then a slave in the early 1800s, is that an argument for slavery?
that whole "your earth spins backwards thing" .. your answer should have been, "i know it's turning backwards, and will continue to do so until obama is out of office"
what are your opinions on rep flake of Az? And is blowback from an overreaching Obama Administration likely to produce a Goldwater libertaian leaning conservative onto the national stage?
Daniel Hauser as you know the kid who has Hodgkin's lymphoma fled after being ordered by the court to undergo chemo therapy his parents fled and came back to that states claiming they know knew chemo is best. But now because of their stupidity his tumor grew in size and is pushing on his trachea causing a ten on the pain scale. A parents job for their child is to look out for the child's well being and now Daniel might die shouldn't they lose custody?
I think this is a bit of a tough one. No one wants this child to die but where do we draw the line on where the government can step in and force you to do things their way. Maybe alternatives would work on him. Isn't this about their religious beliefs? I guess if we let the government force this issue you are going to have to accept it when they sayyou and your family HAVE to take this new vaccine because your putting them at risk if you don't, and we don't care if you don't want it.
Hmm... just had a crazy thought. If GM and Chrysler don't survive bankruptcy, doesn't that make Ford a candidate to be tried under the Sherman Antitrust Act? And what do you think the chances are of that happening?
I was just wondering what your opinions are on the Bhopal disaster and how the company handled the events and legal action that followed. I know how pro corporations you are and i was just wondering how or if disasters like this can be justified for the sake of our global economic system. Sorry if you have dealt with this issue in a video before I haven't had a chance to see all your videos yet.
HowTheWorldWorks I've been wondering why you haven't posted any news videos in the LAST 3 WEEKS, when you use to post every few days.
You seem very content and barely able to contain your secret.
A "Major development"? Please tell me its a video series debunking the global climate change hoax? After all you said in your last video that "climate change would need another video series to address".
Heard you on Rush this morning. I think I get you... Don't attack Sotomayor -- it makes us appear to be the bad guys. Instead we should expose her lack of respect for the constitution and her inclination to judge with that bias. But, I think Rush is suggesting that we do all that, but ALSO thinks it's important to remind people that Obama's shares this lack of respect for the constitution. She's the perfect crusader for their cause -- LIBTARDNATION.
Listening to mainstream media reports about her, I thought that maybe she'd be a moderate, center-left justice. About the best conservatives could hope for from Obama. But apparently she not only legislates from the bench, she bragged about it at Duke University Law School.
There's this old piece of paper called the Constitution...maybe you've heard of it. It divides the government into three branches. The Executive Branch (the President, VP, etc) The LEGISLATIVE Branch, (the House and Senate) and the Judicial Branch. The Judicial Branch is supposed to ensure the Legislative and Executive branches follow the Constitution. "Legislating from the Bench" is when judges change laws by their rulings instead of laws being changed by Congress. Who's the dumb one?
There's this old case called Brown where the Court desegregated schools. It had the same impact as legislation, even though it was a holding from the judicial branch. Understand?

Given that resources are limited, if theThird World is unable to use its resources for its own development (because we constantly exploit them) then that development will be problematic. If the First World is unable to continue exploiting Third World resources, then First-World economic expansion will become problematic. The economies of both Worlds can't both expand without environmental disaster. In your opinion, how should development in both the First World and Third World proceed?

Obama's approval rating has been dropping ever since he took office.
The term neocon is someone who believes in conservative economic policy but also agrees with liberal social policy... HTWW DISAGREES with liberal social policy (if im not mistaken) thus, he is not a neocon.
collins1188 2 years ago
That's not a neoconservative. A neoconservative is that of a person who claims to be conservative (small gov't, low taxes, non-intervention) but yet continues to increase the size of government and disregard the Constitution.
Check out YouTube user "SouthernAvenger" for what a real conservative is.
MagnusIan 2 years ago
Wrong... that is your percieved definition. It is absolutely false. Look it up.
collins1188 2 years ago
Alright, jackass. In your own words...
MagnusIan 2 years ago
You're an idiot!....
look up the definition of the word neoconservativism... It's not hard.
Why would you carry on a debate with me about what a terms meaning is when it is of a factual nature. It's not like my opinion of neocon is different from yours. The fact of the matter is, you haven't a clue what the definition of the word is, yet you persist in arguing. Seriously, you should have just stopped while you were ahead but instead you keep talking and attract thumb downs...
collins1188 2 years ago
I am fully aware as to what the definition of neoconservatism is. My problem is with that of your original statement claiming that neoconservatives agree with liberal social policy. For starters, do explain what exactly you meant by that as to avoid any misunderstandings. Do you mean neocons want to become more involved with the morality of other people or do you mean that neocons are more approving &/or supportive of others morality?
Also explain what you meant by the neocon view of ecnomics.
MagnusIan 2 years ago
"For starters, do explain what exactly you meant by [liberal social policy] as to avoid any misunderstandings"
The belief that we should strive for individual liberty and equality.
"Also explain what you meant by the neocon view of economics."
Free market economy with minimal gov't interference for overriding social purposes only.
This is what a neocon believes in.
collins1188 2 years ago
I don't really think a neocon is too supportive of individual liberty and equality. If they were, why try and pass legislation to not allow gays to marry or adopt children? They also don't want the war on drugs to end even though it's a waste of time, money, and effort. You see support of individual liberty and equality with paleoconservatives such as Ron Paul (heavily libertarian), not these neocons. If neocons are for MINIMAL gov't interference in ecnomics, they wouldn't voted for bailouts.
MagnusIan 2 years ago
Ok, are you ready for an intelligent reply?... here it comes:
Neocons are very supportive of individual liberties. Its all the supposed "liberals" who aren't. Going to Iraq and liberating thousands of Kurdish people from the genocide that was plaguing them is the neocon philosophy. Liberals call it "policing the world".... thats the difference. Neocons fight to liberate those who are oppressed. Comparing gay-marriage rights to genocide in regards to liberation seems a little funny dont it?
collins1188 2 years ago
collins, you said YOURSELF when regarding the neocon view of liberal social policy, "The belief that we should strive for individual liberty and equality." If, in fact, the neocons stand for this, then they would have no problem allowing homosexuals to marry and adopt children as it is NOT the government's business. Going around the world and invading every other country that oppresses its people often causes more problems than it solves. Look up the term "blowback" for starters.
MagnusIan 2 years ago
Homosexual marriage:
Neocons believe that this issue is not an issue of equality. ALL men AND women aren't allowed to marry the same sex. This means that ALL men AND woman are equal in marriage rights. Homosexual marriage is an issue of expansion of freedoms. Should ALL men AND women be free to marry the same sex? The first step in answering this question is, who has the right to define marriage? Neocons say religious institutions INVENTED marriage and thus have the right to define it.
collins1188 2 years ago
collins, the definition of marriage has ALWAYS been changing.
MagnusIan 2 years ago
(cont'd)
collins, if a church doesn't want to marry a homosexual couple, they have the total freedom to reject marrying them (& I think they SHOULD have the total freedom to do that). If a different church is okay with marrying homosexual couples, they should have the freedom to marry them. Why should the state be involved in their marriage at all? Why should the state be involved in ANYONE'S marriage? Legalizing gay marriage does NOT force certain churches to wed gay couples.
MagnusIan 2 years ago
"Why should the state be involved in ANYONE'S marriage?"
Now you are getting to the point of this marriage issue. The problem today is that the gov't has gotten involved with marriage. As for me, I believe the best way to solve this marriage issue is to have a complete seperation of marriage and state. States can offer civil unions (which give legal benefits and is open to everyone) and Churches can offer marriage and restrict it to whomever they choose (with zero legal benefits).
collins1188 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Well we may just be able to find some common ground here, collins. I agree, there should be a total separation of the state's involvement in marriage.
Unfortunately, if two people had a civil union, had children, and one of the people died, the relatives of the deceased could take the kids away. People would be more open to civil unions if it was as secure as a state marriage.
MagnusIan 2 years ago
Magnusian, I never claimed the definition of marriage can't change or has never changed in the past. I simply said that religious institutions AUGHT TO be the ones who decide when and to what the definition should change.
Marriage laws between blacks and whites are completely irrelevent. Those laws claimed, "If you LOOK like 'this', you can't marry someone who LOOKS like 'that'."
gay-marriage laws say, "regardless of EVERYTHING!!!!!!, you can't marry the same sex as you. It's equal.
collins1188 2 years ago
YES, collins. Individual religious institutions SHOULD be the ones to define marriage for themselves, but I'm talking about marriages being made legal by the STATE, NOT a religious institution. If a church is against gay marriage, FINE. Irregardless of a church's view, the STATE shouldn't restrict homosexuals from marrying. A church has every right to, but the state should not.
"It's equal."
It's NOT equal at ALL. Two consenting adults SHOULD have the liberty to marry eachother.
MagnusIan 2 years ago
"Irregardless of a church's view"
The word irregardless is illogically absurd. Stewie Griffin, from Family Guy, would have you killed for using such substandard English (it was in one of the episodes).
"It's NOT equal at ALL. Two consenting adults SHOULD have the liberty to marry eachother."
Lack of individual liberty does not imply inequality. Inequality is when one group of persons has the right to do something another group cannot.
All groups cannot marry the same sex, equally.
collins1188 2 years ago
Way to split hairs, collins. It was late when I typed that and I didn't check over it. Shoot me, you grammar nazi twat. I will correct the statement: regardless of a church's view, the STATE shouldn't restrict homosexuals from marrying. Happy?
Collins, if Timmy & Jenny want to be best friends, they can. But why can't Timmy & Tommy be best friends? Do they just want an expansion of freedoms, or do they not have the right to be friends with each other?

Case in point: Barrack Obama received a book from a certain South American dictator that he wrote titled "I Hate America and So Can You". Is that what you would call a fact? chjoezen 2 years ago
chjoezen, a "dictator" from any part of the world should not feel comfortable enough with the sitting American president to personally hand him a book of ANY title. Dictators are not suppose to be bedfellows with the President of the United States.

I wouldn't say "bedfellows", but rather clueless. To some of us, Obama looks like a bumbling fool who really isn't very good at planning ahead or anticipating. It's like he's missing the part of the brain that keeps folks from painting themselves into a corner. Not only does he make bad decisions.. He makes foolish ones
