  • what an exciting experience of a show

  • I don't know if that ball was just hanging there by a thread. But thank God the wheel stopped when it did!!!

  • R.I.P. Charlie O'Donnell

  • This was the second episode of "The Big Spin" ever aired.

  • For those who were asking about the LA affiliates, it aired on KABC/7 from the premiere until Jan 86, then KTTV/11 until 91, KTLA/5 91-95, KNBC/4 95-97, and KCAL/9 97-2009.

  • Out of curiousity, which TV station in the L.A. County carried "The California Lottery's Big Spin"? KCBS Channel 2, KNBC Channel 4, KTLA Channel 5, KABC Channel 7, KCAL Channel 9, KTTV Channel 11, or KCOP Channel 13???

  • @tyrese3745 It was originally on KABC (I believe on late Monday nights) from 1985-1987(?), and then on KTTV from 1987(?)-1995(?), KNBC from 1995(?)-1999(?), and on KCAL 9 from 1999(?)-2009.

  • @vnisanian2001 for San Francisco - KGO Carried it from 1985-1986, before moving to KTVU (1986-1987), KOFY (1987-1994), KRON (1994-1999), and then back to KBWB (was KOFY) (1999-2001), KPIX (2001-2004), and back to KRON (2004-2009).

  • @oaklandfan2k9 I'm only interested in L.A. affiliates, as that's where I live.

  • @oaklandfan2k9 How about Sacramento? I know at least KMAX carried it in the 90s (under the KPWB call letters) and KTXL carried it until 2009...

  • i'm surprised Chuck didn't lick his finger and touch the $2,000,000 like he did w/ the top amount on Wheel

  • How about That? While Chuck hosted The Big Spin, He also hosted Love Connection, and Scrabble.

  • $2 Million, YAAASSS!

  • Hearing Charlie intro Chuck almost had me thinking I was watching a 70s ep of Wheel.

  • LOL!

  • I bet that 2nd spin shut that knucklehead up who said "give it to her anyways"

  • Well this is so AWESOME!!! I had no clue that Chuck Woolery hosted "The Big Spin" in its first months on the air. I did watch when Geoff Edwards called it all and up until 1991 was when this show had its greatness. It really didn't comeback until they got rid of that stupid gameboard they had. EXCELLENT WIN, TOO!!!! Thank You (and your aunt and uncle, too).

  • 80's Commercial Vault, this is AWESOME! I live in Washington State and I normally don't get to see any of the lottery game shows like The Big Spin or Powerball back when it was on, i've been on vacation in California and in Oregon but i've never gotten to see any of the lottery game shows. Washington State has a lottery but I don't think they ever had a lottery game show. Thank You for this, this is sweet.

  • Thank goodness for that '3 revolutions' rule! Look at 6:32 to see what I mean.

  • This version isn't in the trading circuit! Awesome find!

  • Scratch that. Chuck Donnegan just added one episode to his collection.

This wouldn't have to be that episode, would it not?

  • Damn it, you made me google his site. It looks like he added this episode plus the KGO news piece from part 3 to his trading list. I'm 99% sure.

I guess I don't care that much. I just hope he's not profiting off of a video he downloaded off youtube.

  • Funny he didn't point out that $8,010,000 was won in this episode.

  • They should have kept Chuck as the permanent host.

  • Well, he had two national daily shows at the time as well, so it probably would have been difficult.

  • True.

  • how long did Charlie O'Donnellwas the announcer for the show

  • Is that Charlie O'Donnell?

  • Yes, that is indeed Charlie O'Donnell. At that time, O'Donnell was announcer for Tic Tac Dough and Jokers Wild. (It ws the last year for both of the shows).

  • Charlie O is best known for Wheel of Fortune.

  • um, do you HONESTLY think that we don't already know that? LOLOL!

  • I was reminding them about Charlie's best work, you know!

  • Charlie O's best work by far is WOF. He also did a good job on TTD.

  • and on greed

  • No he did not on "Greed".

  • yeah i mistaked charlie o with chuck woolery lol

  • Let's not Forget the Joker's Wild as well from 1981-86.

  • Cool

  • I would Love to get the Chuck Woolery Big Spin Wheel, The Geoff Edwards early 1990's Big Spin Wheel and the 2000's of Pat Finn Where can you get it at? I hope they have the Old Big spin Wheel on Ebay.

  • I LOVED the Big Spin!! It took me a few to remember what this show was. My aunt lived in California and we'd watch when we came to visit. I would beg her to go on the show!!

$2 mil these days will buy you....well, what will it buy you these days?

  • when was the grand prize made progressive?

  • The progressive Jackpot came circa Fall, 1986

  • Actually, Paolo, on June 21, 1986, Eve Spences won the progressive jackpot at $15,220,000. It's stil a Big Spin Record. Therefore, the jackpot began before Fall 1986.

  • Where is the entire segment or show from that day?

  • Chuck left the show after three months to concentrate on Scrabble and Love Connection.

  • Chuck Woolery's too good for this show. All he does is stand and wait for a wheel to stop spinning.

  • It's still more exciting than "Love Connection".

  • Yeah. Why that show even counts as I game show I don't know.

  • @80sCommercialVault or Wheel of Fortune (the 1975-81 NBC Daytime/Woolery version, of course).

  • And I'll tell you something else, I always enjoyed looking at Big Spin when Edwards was host, especially with the Grand Prize drawing. You surprised me, though, with a Woolery episode. I thought I would NEVER see an episode like this, much less one with four grand prize winners. As for Linda Scott and the KGO broacast, it was October 28, 1985, as it was on that day when Scott won the $2 million.

  • If you're wondering when this episode aired, it was November 4, 1985. A week before, Linda Scott won the first grand prize of $2 million. As for the four millionaires in this show, I don't know if it's been duplicated since.

  • Thank you!

  • Which station did this episode air on?

  • KNTV. There's a station logo that pops up in part 2.

  • the great Charlie O' Donnell announcing

  • Chuck Woolery Wow that a shocker and how long did he do this?

  • Only the first few weeks...Geoff Edwards took over in January 1986.

  • Of course now, the show ended last week and is being replaced by the new show, Make Me a Millionaire with Mark L. Walberg of Russian Roulette and Moment of Truth fame.

  • Shame...but Big Spin had a good run. :)

I hope Make Me a Millionaire is just as good!

  • It's essentally "Million Dollar Flamingo Fortune" relocated to California.
