  • are those toms both the same? they both look like floor toms? :S

  • can you enlighten me as to the sticking of that quick tom fill that's played at 0:25? I can't figure it out and it's making me feel really stupid.

  • Very Sick cover. Perfect timing. This made my day : 2:47-2:50

  • Needs more cowbell!

  • Joey Castillo.

  • Nice cover;)

  • Mainly a simple drum part with those tricky little Castillo fills scattered around... nice cover man

  • 2:32 tut tut cheeky look, seriously though you've helped me learn this song. Great cover man

  • @MyForsakenDreams its a jam block

  • What do you have your Jam block hooked up to? i bought one an hour ago and need to put it on a kit soon

  • you're a great drummer, I watch your videos virtually all the time xD

I need your opinion to better myself: p

  • those paistes sound fuckin nice. solid playing too.

  • not bad man. your block sounds a little higher pitched than joey's so it sounds kinda funny but all in all it rocked. you playing 2002's? my personal fav.

  • Solid, precise and sharp.

    Wow, crisp drumming my friend.

This beat gets butchered so often, you're kickin it good.

  • how do you get your drums to sound so crisp, ive tried everything to get them to sound like that

  • Hey dude. Im not really a drummer but i have a shitty electronic kit. I would like to save some money and but a real kit. Maybe a pearl or a ludwig that i can find around $500 or $600. I would like to know what kind of kit you have and what kind of cymbals. Thanks dude!

  • @djalex8080 I'm not Ben, but I can answer your question ;)

He plays DW Collectors and uses (in this video) Paiste 2002s (I think all of them are).

  • i love this song, great cover, shame the jam block is slightlyyyy sharp of the one on the record but still amazing work

  • excellent cover dude!!

  • Bravo!!!!

  • Great Song, Great Drummer. Ben you ROCK

  • Ben i don't actually have a kit of my own but i would love to learn drums,

i've managed to teach myself a few things by watching your videos and hitting pretty much anything i can find in my room but do you actually think i could learn drums this way?

also how often a day do you practice (or used to practice)

  • Well, you could sort of lern drums that way, but it would be different once you get on a kit. If you want to get a really cheap set of drums go to your local store. Or Try renting some to see if you even like it.

Also practicing depends on the person. I know a dude that has been playing drums for like 6 - 7 Years and practices 2 - 4 hours a day. obviously he's good. But i myself play for usually an hour, or till my parents go insane for that day.

  • @NUProductions4Music yeah i know what you mean, my friend plays drums and every time i get on his kit it does feel a bit different

unfortunately my parents aren't exactly understanding when it comes to music...

i did see Stagg do a set of practice pads, would they be worth investing in?

  • In y opinion no. Your best bet if your tight on money is to wait for your birthday, christmas, find some many and get a cheap drumset or even rent one first. There is no way a practice pad can sum up a drum set, the closest one to it is the Ludwig P4, but again that's pricey. Your best bet, is to, do some odd jobs if you can, Im in Canada so we just got some snow, so if your in Canada you could shovel some snow, mow some lawns etc. If your serious about wanting to learn drums. Show it

  • Yea hitting pillows etc is a great way to start to learn the basics of following a drum pattern. Dave Grohl learned the drums by hitting pillows. The only problem is you don't get much feel and response as you would from a real drum kit.

Practice is a very important thing for a beginner. I used to practice every spare moment I could get. Also you should listen to alot of music and try and figure out what that drummer is doing.

  • So yea, get a kit, get a DVD showing you the basics of drumming them away you go. Maybe even have lessons if your really that serious about it.

  • @the1nameless

dave grohl taught himself by hitting pillows with knitting needles or somthing like that before getting a kit, so its possable :)

  • Dream Theater at the end \M/

    Great Cover btw

  • hey ben have your ever take drum lessons?

  • I've only ever had 2 drum lessons in my life. Which was a total of 4 hours!!

I went down to London to visit a drummer teacher called Paul Elliot. He's worked with some super stars, Dom from Muse, Radiohead Drummer, Yellowcard etc.

He himself was an amazing drummer. Unfortunately I could only have two lesson due to the fact it was so far away (I live in North Wales) and because he charged £40 an hour.

  • ooooooo okay ben thank you very much you're an awesome drummer!

how do you get the independence between hand and right foot?

  • Ha, your going to hate this answer but... PRACTICE.

With drumming there is no quick solution to anything. You have to work hard and keep trying until you get it. I've found in this last year by studying MUSE and other bands i've developed so much as a drummer. It's all about working out of your comfort zone, that way you learn more.

  • oooo yyes but like what exercises you did to get that independence????

  • I learned some treat tips from him. Mainly drum from your wrists and try and save energy. He wanted to try and get me to read music, but I felt that was a step backwards as i've never done it before!

But mainly I play by watching drummers and by ear.

    Thanks

    Ben

  • I'm learning the same as you watching and by ear but i can't get that independence between the hand and right foot

    how did you get it?

  • hey ben how much it was your dw kit?

  • Are u using zildjian cymbals? it sounds to me like the cymbals kinda stop so quick... they dont "flush" out. If so i reccomand u to try out some Sabian cymbals! they are of very good quality and the sounds goes on longer than these sounds like for me! :)

  • mmmmm... needs more cowbell
