@clemdog84 Because it's likely you won't get fresh elk at your local grocery store. If you actually could it would be extremely expensive and you would be uncertain of it's quality. It's also good to learn a primitive hunting technique like the spear because if the world goes to shit and you run out of bullets ...... IT COMES IN REAL HANDY... Funny but true. It's also a good silent technique and more of a challenge to get up that close and make a throw like that. Much harder than archery.

If the spear would have bounced off a shoulder blade it would have done about as much damage as the antler of a rival during the rut. However if that thing penetrates the lungs or the neck the elk is dead... as we've seen here. Now the "wolf hunting" he mentions i don't agree with. NOT a food source !! What happens if your arrow doesn't hit the mark? That's worse !!

@gotgotgot1 If the arrow doesn't hit the right spot and the elk runs off then you've really screwed up and the animal is going to suffer a slow agonizing death.(bowels for example) On the other hand if a spear penetrates, the likelyhood of a bleedout is more certain because of the size of the spear head and the internal movement of the spear head due to the weight of the shaft.

cool video, but... for that elk he'll be charged 20-30 thousand dollars, because animals that big in nature are really rare. he got that one because they pay big to harvest sperm from ungodly freaks of nature. also there's a artificially high density of animals because they use supplemental feed. this regular feeding gets the animals accustomed to people so they aren't as wary. also- i've never heard of legal baiting of elk ( look close to what the elk's eating before the spears thrown )
