  • the original of this song is air supply

  • @SCHATZ2822

it was written and performed by jennifer rush first

  • I didn't know Laura sang this before Celine. Just another Celine cover.

  • the original celine dion!

  • I like laura branigan, and she had a good voice, but she must have wrecked it towards the end of her career, because at the end this song is all dry screaming. It sounds awful, and those notes aren't high, for a woman. Some people might say it sounds "raw" and "emotional" but all i can hear is how badly her voice is damaged.Either she had to rely on studio trickery,or she wrecked her range and voice in the later 80s..i think its the latter, because she was amazing.

  • @jxxxjppp Are you kidding me.....that was her voice...it was powerful and raw....your ears and mine must not of heard the same thing....she was totally awesome here....

  • I think my Dad has had a crush on Laura for 26 years now...lol

  • Sorry Celine this better version

  • :"E,LEPA PESMA+" ..OI

  • this is such a powerful song..puts tears in my eyes every time I hear this song. What a voice she has.

  • sorry, but this song is only predestinated to jennifer rush...you can´t compare laura branigan with jennifer rush, cause the dimension in the quality of singers are enormously...in spite of....good vibrations

  • Music of the Heart that is birthed there, has light that touches, maybe make a call, go make amends .Be a bit kinder and pass on the glimmer of light at least for a hour maeby a day. Beautiful, never geet tired of the song. She keft a legacy that won't go out for a long time. Jimmy (Viet-nam vet) heart music made a big impact to live,Peace and kindmess to each one, that might read this,JimmyS,

  • i heard already different versions of this great song but i must say laura sing it best among the rest.... when i will be ask about the power of love i will definitely think of laura...

  • i heard already different versions of this great song but i must say laura sing it best among the rest.... when ask i will be ask about power of love i will definitely think of laura...

  • lovely :o) i love it

  • speechless!

  • wierd, but i like her version than original

  • Celine Dion has no sound. Its terrible. Laura was the best it's true. I heared this song by Celine. Terrible. never again. :)

  • she does it the best and she is the best looking.

  • she does it the best

  • qu elle super voix a t elle j aime

  • such a beautiful lady. RIP Laura

  • she did it the best - no one else can touch her. rest in peace - you are dearly missed

  • @BlankFrackCripledFUK As Reported it;s you that was caught with george michael at the poofter block your distinct stench is now well known to all Poor George had to visualize himself with you just think YOU of all the dropkick poofters even the blowup doll stood a better chance with him compared to you Now go away and conduct yourself as always at the toilet blocks with your 'Wife ' the poofter blow up doll along with your poofter boyfriend YOU homosexual dropkick.

  • Such an original, character filled, distinct voice.

  • what show was this ???

  • I like Laura banigan, I think she had a great voice, but this version was a complete disaster!! I don't know if she was drunk that day, but she reached the "highest" notes awfuly, you can see the effort she's doing. Not to mention that she counldn't really hit one high note from her original recorded version. I'm sure she could do much better, with a purer and clearer voice!

  • Jennifer Rush is the best! Period!

  • A wonderful version of this song. Mind boggling how great this lady could be today. Let your mind wander and visualize this power singer teamed with Daughtry of today. I can visualize a most powerful rendition of several songs. But alas, this can never happen and it is our loss. A treasure lost.

  • I never knew that this song was hers...all this while i thought it was Celine Dion.....well done Laura....excellent master piece:)

  • I knew Celine wasn't the original singer!

  • @lizmorris1969 Nope. Laura Brannigan isn't, either. Jenifer Rush is the original.

  • [*] Ś.P. Laura... Pamiętam o Tobie, jesteś mym wspomnieniem, jesteś dla mnie kimś więcej niż człowiekiem.

  • I like this version also. Very nice!

  • my eyes are crying every time when i hear this song, power of love is forever..thx..laura love you....

  • RIP Laura, you were one of the very best! You are always in our hearts.

  • love you

  • wow! what a voice.... i love it...

  • a song made for her incredible voice ,forever yours laura

  • Epic

  • what a voice, what a tragic loss. thank you for this.

  • laura x todas tus canciones gracias y espero q seas parte del coro celestial

  • Jennifer Rush didnt write it - she contributed to it - which is not the same thing. It was jointly written by her, Gunther Mende, Candy DeRouge, Mary Susan Applegate. What lets down this version is the appalling arrangement which almost kills the song. If Laura had had a much better arrangement she would have done a lot better with it but she is straining her voice at times (specially towards the end)

  • Her voice speaks to my heart. I'm so sad that she is gone.

  • very powerful performance; put all her emotions in it ;cheers Laura

  • wow i never knew she covered this . RIP Laura Branigan

  • @Michaelwolf1000 She didn't...Celine covered Laura's version. LOL

  • I loved the Gloria song. I was honored the artist guest starred in an episode of Chips just to sing that song and looked great.

  • Damn that 80s hair was awful.

  • ¿ de quièn es la versiòn original? Jennifer Rush o Laura Branigan? ambas tienen exelente voz y las interpretaciones son maravillosas pero me gustarìa saber de quièn es original...

  • Great voice! Great Song. RIP Laura

  • No one sings that song the way Laura Branigan did. All the feeling and what a powerful voice. I miss her!

  • So sad...

Laura had passed away in her sleep onThursday August 26th 2004 of a Brain aneurysm.

    Amazing voice and performer

  • I had no Idea Laura did this song originally. Stupid me.

  • Same here....Great song too

  • Rip?? where have I been?

  • She passed away of a brain aneurysm in 2004.

  • Thank you, dear Laura. RIP.

  • malakies

  • malakies

  • Laura what a gigantic loss to the World RIP, little girl

  • Laura and Jennifer are perfect for this song, nobody else comes close, as for myself I give Jennifer the edge

  • Jennifer ......?

  • @Tom6093 Jennifer Rush

  • I've said it before but this song is not an operaetta or an anthem, it is a torch song. Celine's interpretation is wayyyyyyyyy off. Jennifer Rush hit the mark perfectly. I had not heard Laura's version before, she hit this one right on the nail. Sheer brilliance but what else have we come to expect. Taken from us wayyyy too soon.

  • Laura Runs Rings Around The Competition!

  • This is good this was proabably a very popular version however, i feel MY OPINION I like this but I perfer Celines version because it has much more power and higher powerful notes

  • its sad that branigan passed but she will never be forgotten.

  • @wishdomwish

She lives in the hearts of so many people.

She will never die. Even when hear soul left the earth.

  • Celine does a wooden version, though probably capable of better. Jenn Rush is professional with it, but Laura knocked it waaay over the fence. She wears this song and brings it to full life! RIP...

  • why did she pass?

  • I heard she died of a brain tumor; its sad because she was still pretty young.

  • Brain Aneurysm

  • @lesson34 Laura Branigan died from an Anal Aneurysm, not a brain tumor or hemmorage as reported.

  • @BlankfrackCripledFUK nice way to shit on the dead fuckhead!

  • @Elly3981

Yes, it is sad Laura was taken so soon, I am now the same age she was, and I still have lots of life left in me! Laura sure did also, right up until the end. It really is a shame from a musical perspective, as Laura was getting ready to release a new album, and I personally think she had lots more left where that came from.

Listen to "I know you by heart" Laura sure grabs your heart with that song!

  • Thank you, dear Laura. RIP.

  • reminds me of my naughty teen years! I wish laura is still around & making music she has a great beautiful voice.

  • average karaoke version of this song, love laura though

  • Laura Branigan's version of Power of Love is the best, and leaves Celine Dion way behind.

    Mouskouri66, great comment.

  • But NOT,IMHO, Eva Cassidy whose very short singing career was also cut short.

    /watch?v=ccCnL8hArW8

  • I prefer the Jennifer Rush original, but Lauras is a very close 2nd. Celines version is far too 'jazzy', the speed in it has went to hell and the instrumentation is all wrong.

It would have been interesting to hear Laura and Jennifer do this as a duet.

  • @rphillips111 She's a better singer for sure. Jennifer Rush's version is still the best though. Laura's voice is great but its a bit too flinty for this song.

  • @rphillips111 I like it better myself, but Celine has a pretty fantastic voice. Honestly I think all the women I have ever heard do this song have done an amazing job, but this is my favorite.

  • This is the official motel song of the late mid-80s.......quickie, fast, passionate, lustful, deep, bed sheet-staining, love-making. Her shaky, hoarse, powerful voice gives value and justice to the meaning of the song. We miss you Laura!

  • Great Song and She sang with her feel. RIP our beloved Laura

  • Great memories were made for me with this incredibly talented lady belting out in a car, a mess tent and good parties. Still one of my top ten femme vocals of all time. RIP Laura.

  • Hey dDWIGgyWAM If Laura truly was your mother, then in the video SELF CONTROL...there was someone with a white mask on, what was the purpose for that?

  • Celine sings like a pub singer when she sings this, laura and jenifers are the best versions

  • Laura Branigan

    Is My Mum

    That Is The Truth

I Was With Her In This Studio

  • dDWIGgyWAM,You have a lot of mums,

Apparently Jennifer rush is your mum too????,

No wonder i never got a reply to my response,I have a good memory,

You obviously love this song , i dont blame you for that but get your hands off your dick and just listen to the song and enjoy,

i would Love Jennifer Rush or Laura to be be my mum too but like you, but sadly she is neither of our mums,

Jees, U-tube can be a minefield of loonies???

  • JAJAJAJA

  • I can't believe people say things like this.

  • Ur a fuckin psycho.

  • Effortless control over such power, perfect pitch, sexual charisma.... what a talent. Glen

  • I too love her version, but Celine isn't a downer either. Can't compare the 2. Love them both.

  • Wow, this song is a bitch to sing, so I didn't expect to see her really singing it live...she kills. Kills! Nobody mends emotion to techique better than Laura....stunning. Celine has a great instrument, but none of the emotion...

  • Laura Branigans studio version of this song is the best version!

  • Oh! Yeah! John!

This is a great one, too!

    I loved also, ''Self-Control''....

She is the Best, brings back, alot of good memories!

Thanks, my Dear John, for sharing!

    Josee xxxx

  • I think Laura, Jenny, and Celine all sing this song beautifully in their own way.

  • Thanks for posting this vid of Laura :)

Nice to see this is still on YT.

There WAS a really high quality vid of Laura singing this song on Solid Gold, I think it was, Totally Awesome :)

Unfortunately there were problems with WMG, (my Best Buds.....NOT!!! Check my channel and you will Believe ME!! ) and the dudes channel closed up shop for a while :(

Anyway, so even though a better vid exists of Laura singing this song, Thanks again for posting this one so we can see and hear Laura!!! :-)

  • Looks like there a few of you that like trash talking Laura :(

That is a BAD idea, us dudes in Branigan's Brigade are NOT ammused.

I don't suppose you would like to share Where you live with us would you?

I just got my HemiCharger out of winter storage, and I am looking for a paved driveway or 2 to demonstrate it's pavement melting abilities on. It looks to me like a couple of you have volunteered for a demonstration, Totally Free of Charge!!!

    Laura Totally ROCKS :-)

  • Just Beauitful-

  • Jesus mate, every ones entitled to an opinion, just becasue it dosnt co-inside with yours doesnt make it wrong! Besides I would have to agree Celine's vocal control with this song is better, and her voice more suited to it. When people talk of this song, two main singers come to light, Celine and Jenny Rush! Not Laura. Thats not dispesion on her either, I love just about every thing Laura did, I recon she was a great tallent and sadley missed, but opinions will vary and thats mine!

  • This is such a beautiful song and Laura branigan sings it the best

  • grande Laura no muere esa voz nunca!!!!

    I love you

  • YOU ARE SO RIGHT TREI

  • Simply Amazing...

  • NEVER. Celine cant ever come even close to the talent laura had.

  • blondemandy,

We all "hear" people and songs differently. I am not extremely fond of Celine Dion but heard power in her rendition of "Power Of Love." For you, I will listen to Laura Branigan carefully. My primary interest is Elvis Presley as you will know when you visit my Channel. Anybody who sings deserves a chance and I will give that to Laura.

    Thank you, Sis

  • blondemandy,

Peculiar that your reply to my comment does not display as such. -- Sis

  • I'm not choosing sides about who's better. But I'm pretty sure you can come up with a classier response than that.

  • critix agree dion is butt ugly, and ur mom sux cox

  • I just found a cd of her greatest hits, and she has a version of show me heaven on it that is just too much. She was indeed the real deal.

  • Laura Branigan MADE this song hers! Even though Jennifer Rush wrote it, Air Supply and Celine Dion covered it, Laura put her heart, soul, and passion in her version - one of her best songs!

  • @DENo1MatchGameFan PLEASE DONT CUT HER SHORT ON THIS. THIS SONG HAS ALSO CROSSED OVER INTO THE LATIN AREA BECAUSE THAT IS WHEN I HEARD IT FIRST AND IT WAS FROM Yolandita Monge "TU ERES ME HOMBRE Y YO TU MUJER"....

  • A live preformance with depth, feeling and passion. R.I.P Laura.

  • With over billion on earth, I think her voice will be impossible to replace. Hell of lot better than wooden and soulless Celine Dion.

  • laura branigan R.I.P.

  • I agree. May her soul rest in peace.

She will always be in my memory.

  • how does she do that rough breaking or rough quality in her voice. It sounds like it could hurt?

  • Random Nia Peeples at the beginning.

  • holy shizzle, this is live! So rare!....incredibly tough song to sing, so what a shock to find a live version...LB was the real deal, my friends

  • without a doubt, the most powerful and enduring voices since the 80's. thank you laura for sharing ur gift with us...no question that u r now singing to a multitude of angels in heaven. R.I.P.

  • tears to my eyes

  • good voice she is...she could have been the next lady of my life, but she got rest untimely...

  • Such power in her voice!

    R.I.P
