  • Watched this movie last night for the first time. I couldn't stop laughing

  • I watched this when i was young...about 9-10...and merely laughed at his behavior...but now I'm 19....and I Finally GET the jokes!!!

  • Danny's costume is preposterously beautiful.

  • Danny was the best, and The Court Jester, My absolute all time favorite. The movies and actors in them and the writers and just everyone and everything it took to make them back in thoes days have a classic quality and brilliance and ''realness'' about them that you just don't get in todays screen pictures or TV.Todays way of visual entertainment reminds me of todays toys and really darn near everything, compared with the same things made back then, today= cheap, plstic. Then=Qualty,Lasting

  • What is he saying in spanish???

  • @Gl0v3r3NyGmA That is the brilliance of the man right there. There is hardly one legitimate spanish word in that whole phrase (maybe 'pronto'), but he made it sound so authentic. He does it at another point in the movie when he appeared to be switching languages to convince the king that he was indeed Giacomo.

  • Ahh the lost art of classic comedy. No rudeness, crudity, insults or offense. Just funny.

But nowadays someone would complain about putting down undertakers and Flamenco dancers.

  • With a willow-willow-waily, we will sing about a gaily, with a willow-willow-waily and a hey nonny-nooooooooo! XD

  • *sigh* why can't movies be like this anymore?

  • Ninja strikes again :/ So interesting bit of info... Danny Kaye's role in this movie inspired the name of the label...

  • This is back when actors/actresses had to have a ton of talent, before fancy special effects and voice touch ups :) which means this movie is pure awesomeness

  • @aishaclanclan7 I agree danny Kaye has more talent in his little finger than any actor today.

  • the best bits from 3.27-6.23

  • Lu,lul,lu,lul, ¿?¿?¿?¿?¿.....ja,ja,ja

    Oleeeeee!!!!!!!!!

    Genial, genial fantásticoooooooo!!!!!!!

  • No matter how many times I watch this, I still get such a huge kick out of it everytime!

  • @SteelBeWithYou Don't forget SWORD FIGHT.

  • Glynis Johns and Angela Lansbury are so classically lovely. They fit very well with the pseudo-folklore/fairytale setting of this movie.

  • @jaydudeGDX I've listened to this epic song countless times on CD & I still can't get it right! It's too well written for anyone that isn't Danny Kaye. Not only that, but the album version has an extra 2 minutes! Only a fool would try to learn the Maladjusted Jester, but maybe (hopefully) fools like us only have it in us to do it right.

  • @LaughingNabashin How on earth do you get the album? With 2 extra minutes you say?

I'd love to get my paws on that.

  • @Gowerrr It's on iTunes. I downloaded it a few weeks ago, and I listen to it every day. There's much more to each song than what's in the movie!

  • Danny Kaye - The greatest clown that ever lived. Perfect timing, perfect gestures, perfect control.

One of my all time favs.

  • i watch this movie on DVD and i love it. I REALLY NEED TO LEARN THIS SONG! lol

  • I love this movie!!

  • I'm proud to recall that in no time at all

With no other recourses but my own resources

    With firm application and determination

I made a fool of myself

    :D

  • "Ask the girl if she's seen a group in the forest!"

"No need to holler sir for I hear just fine."

    "Then ask her!"

    "Ask her what?"

"IF SHE'S SEEN A GROUP IN THE FOREST!"

  • I thought the movie was pretty bad even for the time. But Danny Kaye was brilliant in it! And that's more or less the point. I felt the same about the Inspector General, awful movie... Danny Kaye's performances were just amazing, well worth sitting through the rest of it (toss in watch?v=C7uidpDAHNE for a particular good one).

  • Im 16 and I love this movie but none of my friends have even heard of it... So many high school students don't even know who Danny kaye is but i do... I'll just spread it and tell everybody about him... Kids are deprived of some of the greatest movies lol

  • truly the best toungue twister master ever

  • It's something some of the videos that receive millions of views while real entertainment like this receives fewer than 100,000 views.

  • i found a bow and arrow and i learned to shoot. i found a little horn and i learned to toot, now i can shoot and toot ain't that cute! LOL!!!!!!!! FUNNIEST LINE IN THIS SCENE!

  • MEL BROOKS WOODY ALLEN - they all owe him large !!!

  • @BeeMichael Abslutely right!!!

  • coolest film of my childhood :) I'll always love Danny Kaye!

  • i own this movie and watch it on a regular basis!!!!!

"Yes, sir, the italian court, what better place to-"

at the same time "-court italians"

    haha :D

  • excellent!

  • audition! luv it!

  • @themaskofpucca I did this for audition! is wat i meant to say!

  • Danny kaye as a jester, they couln't have gotten anyone better for this role.

  • My freind did this skit he was so funny but not as funny as the movie.

    I love this movie!!

  • what are you loo loo loo-ing about?

  • Danny Kaye rest in peace and know that you were are and always will be the best.

  • Though Danny Kaye is gone his work lives on, and it's great!

  • A jester unemployed is nobody's fool!

  • Norman Panama wrote and directed this masterpiece. What wit!

  • all this and Angela Lansbury too! What a treat.

  • this is my favorite moviee i duv it and i duv danny kaye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)too bad he passed away:(

  • i love this movie more and more

  • love this movie the movies they make today all suck the movies from 1955 and back were fabulous

  • This is one of my fav movies of all time

  • Angela Lansbury sure aged well. Or youthed badly. I'm not sure which.

  • I love this movie! Danny Kaye is awesome!

  • brilliant!!!

  • oh i love this film.. danny is amazing!!!

  • man i love this film

  • Let us not overlook the brilliant music played by

trained musicians reading scores without the crutches of drum machines, FX loops, Pro Tools or any other electronic devices. Hail to the music and musicians of yore!

  • @cliffworks4321 you got that right !!!

  • best performance ever done by man

  • LOVES IT <3

  • Bloody fantastic!

  • It IS possible to make brilliant movies without any special effects...

Best CGI cannot replace an intelligent story and wonderful actors.

  • you spoke my heart!

Most actors today just don't try as hard to be entertaining. as a theater student, he's one of the ones I strive to be like...

  • You're so right. Today profit comes fist and quality second. A short term success and a big WOW is more important that a good story.

The old movies were made for entertainment first and profit was of course also important but it came at a second place.

I'm glad that I am not the only one who thinks so... maybe it will change again to the old quality levels.

  • I basically disagree that today's movies are made badly or lack story, but I agree that this is one of the great ones. And it wasn't appreciated in it's time either.

  • This movie had the largest budget of any comedy film to date when it was released. It was basically the 1950s equivalent of a CGI extravaganza. (It bombed.)

But yes, it also had an intelligent story and wonderful actors...

  • @chrigel1234 : Unfortunately, brilliant movies are underground hits. The Court Jester bombed at the box office then gained headway later on in life. Studios aren't as interested in brilliant as they are about getting their money back.

  • @chrigel1234 You are SO Right!

  • Oh my goodness, look at how young Angela Lansbury was. She still looks good.

  • NEVER gets old ^_^ My god, the man has ridiculously skinny legs, lol. Obviously a dancer. They just don't make 'em like this anymore, and it's really a shame too. Too much CG and not enough actual humor and storyline these days.

  • belive it or not he is wearing falsies too make his legs look better

  • this is such a brilliant movie!

  • A true comic genius ! I wish he and the great Betty Hutton would have done A movie together two of the greatest funniest entertainers ever!!

  • Danny Kaye: the best patter singer ever!

  • This is my favorite movie ever. No matter how many times I watch it I always laugh.

  • His timing was always impeccable. Sheer talent, indeed!

  • Is that Angela Lansbury??

  • yep

  • Yes'm. Sure is!

  • I love these types of classic films! They just don't make any movies like this anymore! And I don't think they ever could. These movies showed a certain feel from the movie business and can't be remade. So historic! And Danny Kaye: one of the best entertainers I believe!

  • LOL 5:46 I can't take it!

  • classic. thats all that need be said

  • Danny Kaye is AMAZING!!!!! He is an Inspiration!! :D

  • Truly a great actor and singer. I love this movie!

  • The Spanish Dance was the best lol

  • If I was an extra on that set, I would really be having a blast seeing Danny Kaye make me and everyone else laugh the way he did! Such a unique talent, and a rare one at that!

  • with no doubt. i have watched this movie more than any other movie, and it is on my top 20 list for sure. Even 10. Prolly even 5.

  • The Best Love Danny Forever!! xxxx

  • ths is SOOO funny! :D

  • One of the really greatest actors, musicians, commedians, dancers,... jesters...;o)), conducters and much more, past has seen!

Yes, I love his work since childhood and will do forever, and this as more as older i get.

  • jesus, this is one of the most pretty nice movies that i've ever seen, it's nice to find it here :p

    good tender comedy!!

  • Danny Kaye, my childhood hero.....

And I still love his movies. He is able to make me laugh and to make me cry.

The perfect answer for a rainy day..... he always brings warmth and sunshine to my heart.

Wouldn't it be great to have a talent like that??

  • haha i love this film im like only 15 but i love it !! hahahhaa

  • Rejoice, rejoice, although his brain is brief, for he who holds her heart holds her hand-kercheif, her handskerheart, heartskerhand, handskerhearker.. GOD this movie is great. I remember talking my English teacher into showing this to our class in High School on the premise that it, "was English".

  • it'd be great do see this video at the beginning of where the song starts....is that possible please?

  • a jester unemployed is no body's fool

  • Kaye, gay? Ha! Johns said he was quite the rogue with the ladies. Shirley MacClaine was on a talk show some years, ago, saying Kaye was the best lover she'd known. She'd put the story in her book. I understand, she had a few to compare him with. lol He's just a treasure and missed by me. Great clip, thanks!

  • That's right, just because some men sing in musicals, or something like this, does not mean that they're gay.

  • My kid sis and I LOVE this flick. Danny Kaye at his best. This scene was just great. I think my cuz and I debated who was hotter in this flick, Glynis Johns or Angela Landsbury. Need Hollywood to churn out more musicals, I swear.

  • Glynis Johns, definitely. She's got kind of a weird voice though.

  • Danny Kaye at his finest, says I.

  • thats real comedy :D

  • ...dont be a jerk

  • wonderful!! I'm italian and I always wanted to know what so strange with the name "ravenhurst"? in italy rathbone's character is named only as "chancellor"...

  • the best part of this movie!!

  • A TRUE MASTER MISS YOU DANNY XXXXX

  • Now , that's entertainment !

  • He is so funny, how did he end up in such a mess LOL! Poor dude, luckily he is a clever fella.

  • I absolutely love this Movie!! Danny Kaye is amazing!!

    ty for posting

for boobaling-- Danny Kaye was Bi.. supposedly he slept with Laurence Oliver!!!!

i just cant believe!! i screamed when i read that!

but who cares i still Love Danny!

  • so even if he was bi, who gives a fuck. May actors have a privat life as well, please? And if Danny found love and warmth in the arms of another man, who are you to scream about that?

  • Hmm, i'vcwe heard a longer version of this song, with a verse about singing in Vienna and such. I wonder where that one came from?

Thanks for finding this, by the way, I've been loking for the movie for years.

  • How weird! I've NEVER heard that verse.. it's definitely not in the movie. Now I'm determined to find out where it came from :O

  • I sadly decided that dancing as I did

To sing was a thing that was sure

I found me a teacher a crotchety creature

    Who used to sing coloratura

She twisted my chin pushed my diaphragm in

With a poker she vocalized me

When she said it was best that I threw out my chest

You may gather that rather surprised me

I was on solid ground till I suddenly found

That in Venice I was to appear...

  • The gala locale was a choppy canal And me, a high sea gondolier I nervously perched as the gondola lurched Before the King's palazzo As I started my song my voice it was strong But my stomach I fear was not so Oh solo mio, ooohhhhhhhh Oh solo mio, ooohhhhhhhh When I fell overboard how his majesty roared And before a siesta he made me his jester And I found out soon that to be a buffoon Was a serious thing as a rule
  • @kdrankins The extra verse is the version released on the CD soundtrack. It also has additional songs including "Pass the Basket" which comes after the Willow Willow Waley bit, and a version of "Life Could Not Be Better Be" for commercial release, and a song that was originally used instead of the whole, "I live for a sigh, I die for a kiss, I lust for a laugh" section with the princess. To be honest, the film versions are better, so it makes me happy to see them up here. (:

  • @kdrankins

It's in the soundtrack. They extended a bunch of the songs.

  • @kdrankins what verse?

  • i LOVE this movie. danny kaye is the best actor EVER, i just about cried when i found out he was supposedly gay

  • If it's any consolation, there's only one source that says he may have been gay versus a whole bunch of others which don't mention his sexuality.

  • Why would it at all matter? Even if he were, so what!

  • thanks for sharing i have this video and its a HOOT!! the first, second and third....... specialy the part when they night him
