trucking has got to be one of the worst industries in the world. besides the low pay and crappy benefits, you have to deal with a bunch of assholes. the general public has no respect for this industry either. i'm 22 and i just got my CDL last year. i should have gone to college like most other kids my age. at least after graduation, i would have a better high paying job where i don't have to work crazy and long hours while being paid shit.

First of all I have things in my truck like a micro camera to take video with. I am in control of my truck at all times and been driving for 26 yr accident free. Been in all points of trucking safety dept, dispatch, loading, unloading, yard jocky, training. I have a mount in truck for camreas I drive north east 4 or 5 times a week. this includes hunts point market, chelsea market, hartford market, south portland me.
i certainly don't have a problem with truck drivers, they provide a service that i'm glad i don't have to do. but some of them, like some car drivers & bike riders, are arrogant cunts who have no place on our roads & this guy gives me no peace of mind, taking video footage whilst piloting 30 or 40 tons (if loaded) of bone & steel crushing metal through traffic, in wet weather & taking the odd panoramic view as well! watch & concentrate on the road, cock
@deanzed From What I could see, the roads were dry. For the most part, that was I93 Northbound in Boston. Most of which was in a tunnel under the city and then up onto a bridge. But as a truck driver I have seen people in cars, Talking on the phone while eating and driving down the highway passing me as I do 65 mph, worst of all they have no hands on the wheel. Im more afraid of cars on the road than trucks doing what he was.
Not of all us got into this job because we thought we would make good money doing it, and we didn't stay because of the money either. A lot of us are still here because we're addicted to the road and there's no going back, not that I would want to anyway.
@TheLordMilton OK. first off. I did not create the video, so do not complain to me, complain to the creator. All I was saying, with all due respect, is that trucks deliver everything from your food to everything in your house, to your HOUSE. Show a little respect for the men and women who drive long hours each and every day so that you can eat dinner at night, and drive your car to the store. Just because you do not like THIS PARTICULAR video, that is no reason to dis ALL truckers. Show respect.
You're choice..but floating shortens the life of your trans...a trans is more expensive to replace than the clutch..I can pull the cover off any trans and tell you if the driver has been floating or using the clutch..if you float..you'll be writing a huge check long before you should...so go ahead, knock yourself and your check book out...
@magictouch822 ive never heard of anything like that. my dad has been a trucker for many years, he shifts clutchless, and he taught me to do it. hes gotten well over the usual endurance out of a transmission. i was under the impression that as long as you dont force it into gear your fine. now a guy who doesnt clutch and jams it into gear is going to wreck stuff. the company work for, a guy brought his truck in, and we tore it down and saw he broke the gear in 3 pieces. explain please?
The beer company that I work for is alcoholic truck driver friendly .They tell us if we really need to drink to just pull over and open a case or two but that we both have to work together to operate the rig and bring it home if we're drunk,I steer and shift while my buddie works the clutch and gas pedal. They also hire crack and heroin addicts. My first OTR buddie never woke up one day in the sleeper berth,he mixed beer and pills from his "candy jar".
I thought I did. Then I found out it sucks ass. I'm not a fan of working for free half the time. And having a mark in my record for having an accident(I avoided another driver who failed to yield. Had to bend a rim to save the tractor and a reprimand is my thanks)
So Truck drivers call "Idiots who drive cars, for wheelers?" What the fuck do you drive when your done driving your truck?....A Bicycle? Fuck you assholes and the China made shit you all haul.
@townkevin59 . If youve got nothing nice to say about the trucks who deliver everything (INCLUDING OUR COMPUTERS TO TYPE THESE RETARTED COMMENTS), dont comment at all
@townkevin59 Its four wheelers, as a pun on the fact that there are 4 count them 1 2 3 4 tires on a car. It is only trucker slang. It is not a derogatory statement towards cars.
@townkevin59 I bet your the one that flips drivers off or runs all night with your highbeams on. As another person wrote, 4-wheelers refers to the number of tires just like I bet you call us 18-wheelers.
As far as "the China shit you all haul." comment, I find that just ubsurd. I haul and deliver food processed here in the states.
Please find yourself a Good Buddy and park yourself in a good old fashion Pickle Park.
Man, I have so much respect for truck drivers. I drove an armored truck, and just the size of those things are pretty bad, one little move and you're going into someone elses lane. I can't ever imagine myself driving these. I think it would be great, because I love to see the country, but my old job had this horrible area for the trucks to back into, and it was amazing to see them back into the small space. Also truckers are just awesome people to talk to if you have the chance. Keep truckin!
oh man his was a major waste of my time, i actually watched the whole video in expectance of this guy doing something sweet, blah i can just go stand by the road and watch people drive truck
trans brake, how old is that truck? and yes u can shift any manual without the clutch it takes something called experience. most experienced drivers only use the clutch for starting and stopping no matter how many gears they have or condition of road. when u are pulling a tanker or other trailer with a load that can shift easily its far better to "float" gears than to use the clutch besides its less wear on the clutch
@Bqrufz1 experience? i'm training to drive a semi with a 40 foot frameless end dump trailer. i've been driving for 4 days (that's total experience) and know how to float the gears. i guess my trainer's one of the best lol
I love the truckers...They have a hella stressfull job with IDJITZ!!! and crappy roads. BUT! Try being a HD Wrecker operator on that same HWY with a 30 to 45K+ drive unit dragging the 80 K.....Never preach about 4 wheelers because they will NEVER GET IT!
Well, I drove a 80', 102" KW W900 and dry box or refer trailer for several years in all kinds of weather and that is part of being a truck driver. This video shows a clean road with a overcast sky. No bad trucking weather to me. Everyone should have to drive a semi for 10,000 miles to find out what it is like and then they wouldn't get into the blind spots and think you can stop 80,000 pounds like a 4000 pound car! RESPECT is something every driver needs to have and show to other drivers.
Is this the city of Boston MS? Great video; however, the camara was too shaking in some parts of the video. Bad weather but traffickless roads. Greatings fellow driver.
Really how hard is it runnin up I-93 thru the tunnel n drzzlin rain? try runnin down I-80 n 3 blizzards n 1 nite behind a snow plow that aint even scrapin the road then u can come back & actually say u did sumthing. drivers wit all these smartass comments tryin 2 compare their selves 2 each other sayin they can do it better i mean really! pull out ur tape measures & ur dicks then u might get sum where then!!!!
its amazing how all u guy drivers want 2 put each other down thinkin u can do the job better than each other well let me tell both of u sumthing i can do the job 2 just like u can i have pulled vans reefers & flatbeds all across this country. i have been up 4 days @ a time with nuthin @ all just because my load had 2 be sumwhere else & didnt have time 2 stop & sleep so quit ur bitchin & just do ur fuckin job ok. we all out here 4 the samething 2 get the job done because we luv the road
@straightwinning Hell, some of the shift linkage was so loose you didn't even have to lift your foot off the gas to push the lever to neutral, but if you wanted it to shift while "floating", you did have to finesse the gas just a tad LOL..as far as I'm concerned though, as long you and every other driver abides by the Larry the Cable Guy adage of "Git'R'Done," shift the way you fucking want to and don't worry about how the other driver(s) do their thing. 10-4!
Yep the guy obviously said he was the best trucker in the world, and that he asks anyone to try and top him. You really got him, put that obnoxious know it all in his place right? phhhhhhhhhh.
@straightwinning if the clutch was just for looks they would not install it...plus, how to you suggest applying the transmission brake without using the clutch?
@straightwinning das right driver.. mash dat motor get to ridin and a glidin, log wha? chicken who? woo woo, oh, what the hell is a clutch? and wtf is a 10 spd? keep da shiney side up!!
@straightwinning das right driver.. mash dat motor get to ridin and a glidin, log wha? chicken who? woo woo, oh, what the hell is a clutch? and wtf is a 10 spd? keep da shiney side up!! oh gueessin cuz its got a long blue freightshaker hood, id say hes pullin a weiner wagon c'mon.
When I was a trucker, I typically made about 34 cents a mile. For those being critical of truck drivers, get behind the wheel of one. I GUARANTEE your mind will be changed very, very quickly. 70 ft long, 9.5 ft wide, 10 or more gears to go through, double clutching...it takes a lot of training and skill to do it right. It's not just a matter of starting the engine and driving away like a typical car. Truckers call people who just drive cars "idiot four wheelers" for a reason.
@336kgf Man, you have my respects. I've always been curious to drive a truck, and it doesn't look too hard out on the open road, but driving through a city, with narrow streets, sharp turns, low overpasses, etc., and driving through all kinds of weather conditions...that has to be a brutal way to make your living.
@sean2015 I've been out of the industry for about 2 1/2 years and I am trying like hell to get back in. I have faith, although it's been frustrating as hell.
@336kgf Is this because of the economy? How is the job market for truckers anyway? You sound like you really love this job. Personally I love driving on the open road but a truck sounds like it would be too much for me to handle. So I'll try to look for a job as a courier or maybe driving people's cars cross-country.
@sean2015 Honestly not sure. It's ok once you get used to it, but yes, in the beginning it can be a bit overwhelming. It's weird after your first over the road trip and you get in your car and you have to reorientate yourself to being closer to the ground with more responsive steering and a much faster drivetrain.
@336kgf I hear ya. I have a friend who works as a bus driver for Coach USA, and every time he gets in his little Hyundai Elantra it's such a piece of cake for him to maneuver that thing. He can parallel park and back into a parking spot faster than anyone I know.
@sean2015 yeah the problem with the market is the fact you got these big ass companies that are monopolizing the profit margins then later once all the little guys are gone rob the market blind. Its pretty bad when you haul a load and only profit 10 to 20 percent. If you ask me thats not even worth leaving the house. That and dot is stuck up all our asses. Ive been out here for 5 years and its definitely not looking up for any of us.
@jodyb11 my advice would be to try starting your own business, what about an auto transport company? there's always people who need their cars ferried cross-country no?
@mrhemi123 That's about right. It depends on what you are comfortable with and what your needs are. I was on an 8 speed in initial training, drove 10 speeds and 13 speeds and 10 speed autoshifts (automatic with clutch for starting or stopping) for over the road training, and used 10 speed manuals and autoshifts and 9 speeds as a professional driver. They range all the way up to 18 speeds.
@336kgf have you ever driven the ones, and i completely forget the name of them, but they have a selector in the middle of the gear sift so you run through the first set of gears and then you flick the little selector up and shift it up into where first would be? i know my explination is a bit long, but thats the only way i can think of saying it, and i've heard that they can be really confusing to drive.
@mrhemi123 That's typically how they work. Type in "shifting a 10 speed" for a general idea. Youtube has all sorts of videos about that subject. Anything above a 10 speed will have another set of gears on top of the first two sets. You'll see what I mean. Also check out shifting a 13 speed or shifting an 18 speed.
@336kgf Thank you for answering that, i've always wanted to drive a semi truck for fun because i love big trucks. And i have the up most respect for any truck on the road. and yeah, i know, i might fall under the class of idiot 4 wheelers, but i have to say, semi trucks, especially the older ones have always been an interest of mine. i'm 19 and i remember watching Smokey and the Bandit, and as nice as that 77 T/A looked, i loved that Kenworth.
@mrhemi123 your on about splitter box gearchange. they have a half gear split between ratios for things like hill climbs and gradients. dont worry mate. they're easy peasy. difficult to explain, but easier to use. it all comes with time and patience, and have faith in your own abilities.
@MrTubbymarshall i hope i don't make you or @336kgf mad, but i've never planned to actually make a career out of driving these kinds of trucks, but its always been my dream to be able to get behind the wheel of one and learn. i'm so fasinated by everything about semi trucks. i'm probably more of an enthusiest, but i just love semi trucks.
@mrhemi123 you dont make me mad at all. i was always taken by the idea of big trucks when i was only very young. i sort of just fell into it and it took me all over europe. wonderful. i now just do the occasional drive in mainland U.K. just to keep my hand in. my main full time occupation is as a plumber. its nice to hear from folks like you. trucking does get slated and unfairly so. its a very well respected occupation in europe and you seem to be treated fairly and patiently wherever you go.
@MrTubbymarshall Wow,sounds like a really amazing experience, but over here in the US, it seems like people often snubb their noses at trucks. i can't believe its true sometimes. they act like truckers are idiots or can't drive and critisize them as they swerve in and out of their lane well on their phone. (kind of making a generalization there about people who don't want to share the road with trucks, but still) and i know there are some bad truck drivers, but some don't know it takes skill
@mrhemi123 It's really not that hard. More gears to go through, have to have the RPMs in specific places when you are shifting, but overall it's like driving a regular car. It's just a matter of repetition and getting used to what you have to do.
@336kgf i learned how to drive a clutch on my dads 10 speed wentworth flatbed ;) now im 18 with a CDL permit and work for a local concrete delivery company and i use no clutch unless needed. i will have full CDL license before you know it
Just a quick heads up. as much as i hate to say it your driving test requires you to double clutch. after you pass you can drive however you want. some companies try to require you to do it but there are ways around that
this is the hardest work I have ever done, I was a retail manager before this, you have no idea what truck driving is, or the sacrifice they make to make sure you get to get your food etc. without the trucker america stops then guess who would be winning. Truckers work for pennies, if paid by the hour like you, who get to take a shower everyday if you want, eat when you want, sleep when you want etc. My husband had ten days off out of 365 last year, spent it gettin ready to go again.

@1996truckerswife You're wasting your time writing comments to a kid who experiences world through video games and comic books. He's never been further than the door of his mamma's basement. Any kid who calls a woman "dumb bitch" is just a punk ass, no good maggot who doesn't have a father. He said "all trucking is, is driving" - that from a kid who spends his days ( and nights) pretending to be a sniper on XBOX while playing with his mamma's dildo.
The younger generation is the worst for looking for a paycheck from a trucking company, LOL the companies are getting smart, the driver now leases the trucks and is so broke that they can't get much out of him, LMAO.... The corrupted companies keep the driver in his truck and starving. Let one of them big talkers like 2sam try driving one and doing this job, they would not last a year. they would be some of the cry babies we already have in this industry.
@1996truckerswife stfu dumb bitch all trucking is is driving. you DRIVE not WORK. and what do u do for a living? i have a full time job with $15 an hour and i dont even have my drivers license.
@2samuelp: your language even shows how uneducated you are. You are one of those that don't yield coming onto the highway, one of those that cut off truckers, one of those that play chicken with truckers. GET EDUCATED NUMB SCUM.
2samuelp: the trucks are governed, but you probably never drove a truck, and so who is really stupid. Truckers make sure dumb asses like you eat, although we really should let you starve. Your language also shows your intelligence. Sure there are some bad drivers especially the young ones, but it is proof the people in cars with no trucking education cause more trucking accidents than truckers. GET EDUCATED NUMB SCUM.
Ha ha,...did i hurt your guys feelings?Need a bandaid, want some ice cream?Pull the fuc#ing panties out of your ass,put the purse down and get the fu#k out of the way.I'm making a call to all non"big truck drivers" .....we must unite. The next time your on the freeway pull in front of a truck and SLOW down, see a truck passing?Get in front and drive the exact speed of the vehicle in the slow lane, mabey 10,15 minutes,..maybey then they will get the point.
you do that dick head and i'll be more than happy to push your shit car out of the way.... 42 tones against your crappy car....... i think you will come off worse..... how did your computer get to the shop.. truck... how did your shit car get to the show room ...truck... your sofa...tv...rug.....everything in your house....... a truck you thick cunt......
@2samuelp youre an idiot...trucks are important they deliver everything stuff to people they are important to american society by doing what you said it will just delay shipments and make people who drive trucks hate cars even more. A big truck is bigger, stronger, and weighs more than whatever you drive. you wanna mess with one im sure theyll mess back....just saying
@2samuelp Try driving a truck, you stupid fuck. Try driving a 70 ft long, 9.5 ft wide (or even more if it's an oversized load), 13.5 ft vehicle, double clutching through 10 gears or even more, all the while putting up with assholes who can't drive their cars properly, aka "idiot four wheelers." You have how much experience behind the wheel again. I did 47 states in 2 1/2 years. Try that in your car, you stupid motherfucker.
@2samuelp It's idiots like you that give humanity a bad name. Try saying what you just said in the middle of a crowded truck stop, instead of being a pussy and hiding behind a computer screen in an unknown location. See how quickly you end up going to the hospital looking like a broken down punching bag. If it wasn't for trucks, your computer, your car, and everything around not man made wouldn't exist. People like you truly are naive. Idiot.
All trucks are governed to a certain speed. some are governed 1 or 2 miles an hour faster than others. we can't help it you can't wait 2 or 3 more minutes longer behind a big truck till it gets past the other one since you are in such a big hurry to cash your welfare check

Had to bend a rim to save the tractor and a reprimand is my thanks)

nesson36 5 months ago
@townkevin59 Its four wheelers, as a pun on the fact that there are 4 count them 1 2 3 4 tires on a car. It is only trucker slang. It is not a derogatory statement towards cars.
Nicholas19951996 4 months ago
@townkevin59 I bet your the one that flips drivers off or runs all night with your highbeams on. As another person wrote, 4-wheelers refers to the number of tires just like I bet you call us 18-wheelers.
As far as "the China shit you all haul." comment, I find that just ubsurd. I haul and deliver food processed here in the states.

Keep truckin!

trans brake, how old is that truck? and yes u can shift any manual without the clutch it takes something called experience. most experienced drivers only use the clutch for starting and stopping no matter how many gears they have or condition of road. when u are pulling a tanker or other trailer with a load that can shift easily its far better to "float" gears than to use the clutch besides its less wear on the clutch
Bqrufz1 7 months ago 8
@Bqrufz1 experience? i'm training to drive a semi with a 40 foot frameless end dump trailer. i've been driving for 4 days (that's total experience) and know how to float the gears. i guess my trainer's one of the best lol

RESPECT is something every driver needs to have and show to other drivers.

carlos234455 8 months ago
Where is this exactly? I've been to the Boston area but never in it, only in the surrounding areas (mostly Lawrence).
336kgf 9 months ago
When I was a trucker, I typically made about 34 cents a mile. For those being critical of truck drivers, get behind the wheel of one. I GUARANTEE your mind will be changed very, very quickly. 70 ft long, 9.5 ft wide, 10 or more gears to go through, double clutching...it takes a lot of training and skill to do it right. It's not just a matter of starting the engine and driving away like a typical car. Truckers call people who just drive cars "idiot four wheelers" for a reason.
336kgf 9 months ago 22
@336kgf hahahhahahaah i cant believe ur tryin to make truck driving look lke it merits honour or is skillful hahahahaha

mike85sx 8 months ago
@336kgf Man, you have my respects. I've always been curious to drive a truck, and it doesn't look too hard out on the open road, but driving through a city, with narrow streets, sharp turns, low overpasses, etc., and driving through all kinds of weather conditions...that has to be a brutal way to make your living.
sean2015 7 months ago
@sean2015 I've been out of the industry for about 2 1/2 years and I am trying like hell to get back in. I have faith, although it's been frustrating as hell.
336kgf 7 months ago
@336kgf Is this because of the economy? How is the job market for truckers anyway? You sound like you really love this job. Personally I love driving on the open road but a truck sounds like it would be too much for me to handle. So I'll try to look for a job as a courier or maybe driving people's cars cross-country.
sean2015 7 months ago
@sean2015 Honestly not sure. It's ok once you get used to it, but yes, in the beginning it can be a bit overwhelming. It's weird after your first over the road trip and you get in your car and you have to reorientate yourself to being closer to the ground with more responsive steering and a much faster drivetrain.
336kgf 7 months ago
@336kgf I hear ya. I have a friend who works as a bus driver for Coach USA, and every time he gets in his little Hyundai Elantra it's such a piece of cake for him to maneuver that thing. He can parallel park and back into a parking spot faster than anyone I know.

@sean2015 the job market sucks ass!!!!!
jodyb11 6 months ago
@jodyb11 For truck drivers? I would think it'd be a pretty steady job that's always in demand (?)
Are you a trucker?
sean2015 6 months ago
@sean2015 yeah the problem with the market is the fact you got these big ass companies that are monopolizing the profit margins then later once all the little guys are gone rob the market blind. Its pretty bad when you haul a load and only profit 10 to 20 percent. If you ask me thats not even worth leaving the house. That and dot is stuck up all our asses. Ive been out here for 5 years and its definitely not looking up for any of us.
jodyb11 6 months ago
@jodyb11 my advice would be to try starting your own business, what about an auto transport company? there's always people who need their cars ferried cross-country no?
sean2015 6 months ago
@336kgf 10 or more gears? the majority of America would be confused when they realize they just can't put it in "D"
mrhemi123 7 months ago
@mrhemi123 That's about right. It depends on what you are comfortable with and what your needs are. I was on an 8 speed in initial training, drove 10 speeds and 13 speeds and 10 speed autoshifts (automatic with clutch for starting or stopping) for over the road training, and used 10 speed manuals and autoshifts and 9 speeds as a professional driver. They range all the way up to 18 speeds.
336kgf 7 months ago
@336kgf have you ever driven the ones, and i completely forget the name of them, but they have a selector in the middle of the gear sift so you run through the first set of gears and then you flick the little selector up and shift it up into where first would be? i know my explination is a bit long, but thats the only way i can think of saying it, and i've heard that they can be really confusing to drive.
mrhemi123 7 months ago
@mrhemi123 That's typically how they work. Type in "shifting a 10 speed" for a general idea. Youtube has all sorts of videos about that subject. Anything above a 10 speed will have another set of gears on top of the first two sets. You'll see what I mean. Also check out shifting a 13 speed or shifting an 18 speed.
336kgf 7 months ago
@336kgf Thank you for answering that, i've always wanted to drive a semi truck for fun because i love big trucks. And i have the up most respect for any truck on the road. and yeah, i know, i might fall under the class of idiot 4 wheelers, but i have to say, semi trucks, especially the older ones have always been an interest of mine. i'm 19 and i remember watching Smokey and the Bandit, and as nice as that 77 T/A looked, i loved that Kenworth.
mrhemi123 7 months ago
@mrhemi123 your on about splitter box gearchange. they have a half gear split between ratios for things like hill climbs and gradients. dont worry mate. they're easy peasy. difficult to explain, but easier to use. it all comes with time and patience, and have faith in your own abilities.
MrTubbymarshall 7 months ago
@MrTubbymarshall i hope i don't make you or @336kgf mad, but i've never planned to actually make a career out of driving these kinds of trucks, but its always been my dream to be able to get behind the wheel of one and learn. i'm so fasinated by everything about semi trucks. i'm probably more of an enthusiest, but i just love semi trucks.
mrhemi123 7 months ago
@mrhemi123 you dont make me mad at all. i was always taken by the idea of big trucks when i was only very young. i sort of just fell into it and it took me all over europe. wonderful. i now just do the occasional drive in mainland U.K. just to keep my hand in. my main full time occupation is as a plumber. its nice to hear from folks like you. trucking does get slated and unfairly so. its a very well respected occupation in europe and you seem to be treated fairly and patiently wherever you go.
MrTubbymarshall 7 months ago
@MrTubbymarshall Wow,sounds like a really amazing experience, but over here in the US, it seems like people often snubb their noses at trucks. i can't believe its true sometimes. they act like truckers are idiots or can't drive and critisize them as they swerve in and out of their lane well on their phone. (kind of making a generalization there about people who don't want to share the road with trucks, but still) and i know there are some bad truck drivers, but some don't know it takes skill
mrhemi123 7 months ago
@mrhemi123 its been really nice talking to you. thank you for taking the time to reply to me. have a nice day.
MrTubbymarshall 7 months ago
@MrTubbymarshall right back at ya. its been good hearing about it from a first person perspective. Thank you for your time.
mrhemi123 7 months ago
@mrhemi123 It's really not that hard. More gears to go through, have to have the RPMs in specific places when you are shifting, but overall it's like driving a regular car. It's just a matter of repetition and getting used to what you have to do.

this is the hardest work I have ever done, I was a retail manager before this, you have no idea what truck driving is, or the sacrifice they make to make sure you get to get your food etc. without the trucker america stops then guess who would be winning.
