from the michaelminn discography: "Better studios were in existance when King Oliver led his band in for their first recording sessions, but apparently not in Richmond, Indiana. This building was in such close proximity to nearby railroad tracks that the band had to time their performances not to coincide with trains passing through."
Great band, and an excellent solo by King Oliver.
Camera is not so bad. Camera operator is though! (me:() Poorly hand heald. Great choice in Potato Head Blues. I am not sure if I have it on 78 though and I upgraded to Vista and am having trouble uploading videos to utube.
One of art's highest achievements. Ten stars. Dig the laid back, sinuous sounds of the trombone and J.Dodd's wicked playing. Great choice. Why not L. Armstrong's "Potato Head Blues" next?
I agree that Potato Head Blues is great but was for okeh. I only collected a few early Gennetts as I went to college in Richmond IN and my buddy and I used to make ourselves uninvited guest to the old Gennett plant. It was so dilapidated that it was probably dangerous and that was 30 years ago! There were dreams of restoring it to some sort of an arts society, but no funds were forthcoming (and they would have been considerable due to the size of the estate and its poor condition).
Hey, jkutler, thanks for this!
