Ah yes. The "Rolls Royce of Revolvers", as someone once described it. The first time I saw one way back in 1977, I knew I had to have one. The first blued one I had I sold to make room for the then new stainless steel "Ultimate". If you use Hoppe's to clean it, make sure you wipe the nickel exterior free of the cleaner before putting it away. Enjoy.
Very Nice!! my dad has one that looks like yours except his is in stainless steel. they have a crisp trigger pull and shoot really well!! i use to take it to the gunrange but i stopped... people kept making me offers to buy it and kept harassing me. so i cleaned it and put it away in the original box and purchased my own S&W .357 magnum. looks allmost the same as my dads Python except its not. they really are good hand cannons!! .357 magnums pack alot of punch!!!
I have begun a long hard process of finding one these for around a $1000. I'll consider any size and finish. I prefer the nickle or stainless first. I need the help of the internet(you guys) to accomplish this. So if you know anyone or shop that is selling one please email me. I have looked in gunbroker and other auction site. Like my status so that more people will learn and hopefully partake in this impossible journey.
Absolutely beautiful. I had a chance to fire a WWI vintage Colt M1917 in .45 ACP over the Holidays. I fired several other revolvers that day, and that was the smoothest and most enjoyable of them all. It's a shame that Colt doesn't make these anymore.
@theWHIPLASH this is one of the few swing out revolvers i would like. im more a fan of old west single action type. but colt wrote the book on revolvers so this comes natural that they would make one of the few exceptions
These are truly works of art in the world of revolvers. As much as an S&W fanatic I am, the Colt Python in ANY flavor has always been the top-dog in terms of style, art & factory-tuned action. Nobody back then or today has ever manufactured anything as good as the fabulous Colt Python.
This revolver was available in a variety of finishes, including blued, nickel, stainless steel and Bright Stainless Steel, which looks like nickel plating.
I'd give my left nut and then some for one of these.
$350 for that work of art? Your father has a shrewd eye for good deals. Even in '83, that was a good buy. Tell you what, I'll give you $360. You can always say you made a profit! Just kiddn'. Thanks for letting us see that beauty.
.357's and mr. Clean, both leave a shine on the floor. nice gun though, i love watching the value of these things keep skyrocketing. definitely not a drop gun.
now Colt is only seling these old looking revolvers. why not the anaconda and phyton, these are legendary revolvers which are better sold than all theyr daily shit ever will be!!!
This is the best example of US gun craftsmanship ! Nickle of Royal Blue they were the best. Presently they do not make them because the US consumer is too frugal. May collectors prefer 10 junk guns that 3 excellent guns.
Pass down my blued 6" to my son when he turned 18. Still locked up for now till he gets his commission in AF. Bought it in '78 after confronting some one stealing out of my dads garage. It's THEE finest blue you'll EVER see on a gun!! Super balanced. I use a nickel 4"king cobra for security now. We call it the flame thrower!
I traded machine work on a XKE Jag motor for a Colt Python Ultimate back in the 1980s . Come close to selling it do to finances a couple of times but just couldnt part with it . Everytime Id get it out of the gun safe to sell it and work the action I put it back .....Thank God . I cant ever remember firing it . If I did it was less than 20 rounds .
I've got one just like this.I bought it brand new in Orlando, Fla. in the early 70's. I paid 425.00. I still have the box and it has the original grips. This gun is a pleasure to shoot. Not shooting it is a sin.
@MegaSpongebob94 They can be. Finding one at a good price that is. If money is no object, you can go to Cabelas Gun Library and get one. But they are expensive. Thanks for watching.
absolutely beautiful gun man! Have you put any rounds through it? I used to have one, but then my stepdad stole it when i moved to AZ and he pawned it off for only $250 for drugs. i'm not afraid to admit, that is the one and only time i ever cried.
Beautiful Gun. Thanks for the Video. Would u Ever be Interested in Selling. I Know that you've Hinted On in the Video and Even here in the Comments that u Probably won't. But if theres One Thing that I've Learned in Life is that Everybody and Everything has a Price. So if u Change ur Mind on that some Time Soon, Please Let me Know. lol Or if u Know where or how I can Find One in Good Shape for a Fairly Reasonable Price, Let me Know as well. I'd Sure Love to get me One of them Bad Boyz. :)
It's a beauty! I've got a 6" Blued that I bought new in 83. I have a buddy that keeps wanting to buy it from me. Every now and then I think about it, but then I bring it out and look at it. I'll never be able to replace it with anything cooler. I did make a huge blunder when I threw out the box it came in... oh well, live and learn.
Ive got a 6" colt python "ultimate" model that I got back in the mid 1980s. It comes with pachmyer grips as standard with a bright polished stainless steel finish . Wouldnt trade it for anything . I hear Pythons are next to impossible to get anymore unless you go through the Colt custom shop and pay through the nose for it . I got most all of my guns back in the 1980s because I saw what was coming . Got my ammo back then too . I was a Boy Scout hence be prepared .
You really should take a few shots with it, buddy. You know how slick that hammer and trigger is. Wait until you feel the baby go off. It's like no other. Sacred.
SO SWEET! I had to get get mine from the safe after seeing this vid! I bout it new 25 years ago when I was just 18 years old! Ive always had an eye for the best of the best! Mine is a 6 inch also in the "bright stainless finish" I think they called it. It came with the rubber Pachmeyer grips. I guess one of these days ill have to empty the safe and put up a vid.... Thanks for sharing!
Definitely one of the most beautiful revolvers I've seen. The condition looks excellent, and you can just see the smoothness of the action. I'm glad you're taking care of it. It's one of those pieces that you know is gonna be a real treat to have and to cherish.
Sir, you need to buy a box of ammo today and use that baby! Beautiful pistol. I have many double and single action pistols and they are fantastic to shoot. Have a wonderful weekend.
Hi i had one about 1990 with nickle the best gun i ever had then we had this hunger ford killing in England and the cop came down on us gun boys we had to hand them in i paid £450 for mine it was second hand i think they are fetching that deactivated unfortunately you can not own a centre pin gun any more in Britain all because some twat went killing you have a great gun mate
@Albee4ty5 sweet looking python. I just picked up a colt bright stainless gold cup with sterling silver grips. Colt makes some of the nicest looking guns. Don't let that Python go it's a keeper !
Ah, man, you're making me drool! Even before I saw the gun, that box took me back to the various ones I had in boxes like that. What a gorgeous firearm. Geez, can I justify one of those again! :-)
I didn't see a firing pin on the hammer. Does that gun have an internal firing pin like modern smith and wessons. If so I didn't know old revolvers had that feature back in the day.
@traingp7 This was probably made in the 70's. Its not super old. I have a Ruger Single Six 22LR made in the early 60's and it doesn't have the pin on the hammer either. Thanks for looking.
