Y'know, now that I think about it....wouldn't it have been sufficient to cut off most of his ankle without cutting off his entire foot? I mean, since the ankle is the protruding part of your foot and the very thing that would hinder the chances of getting it out of the shackle...it would only have made sense to sever the ankle.
