@slyme1711 He retired from K-1 in 2004 as far as I know and had an MMA match against Caol Uno in 2005. Seems like he did not need to keep on fighting or was clever enough to quit in time.
I kinda miss him and his explosive reckless style.
Both of these guys would get dominated by a grappler as Uno took out Yilmaz and BJ Penn took out Ludwig. But if I had to add striking to my grappling, I'd go with Muay Thai over TKD.

@eoinb57 Here's why I don't buy your argument. Uno and Penn were not prevented from standing and striking and Ludwig and Serkan were not prevented from going to ground in MMA. If it was stand up fighting, you would prevent Uno and Penn from going to ground and force them to stand. In MMA when grapplers against pure strikers no one was forced to do another style and the best grappler won.
Serkan just needs work on his patience, the Thai clinch, and more leg kick training. He is by far the best TKD representative I've ever seen in K-1.
Against his level of competition and with the level of training he had in kickboxing, he had an excellent run at this level. I think he is a great stylistic role model for all Taekwondo practitioners like myself.

one thing wrong is when tae kwon do fighter dont use the knees..in my TKD class i was taught to use the knees in a few 1-step sparring. But, in fight they forgot to use the knee when clinching. that's their downfall.

Nvm it was a Knock down i saw the replay but Yilmaz didn't get knocked down. He wasn't even on his knees. I can't believe they called it a knock down. I can't believe he was still standing. Ludwig is only a mediocre Muay Thai guy. Yilmaz would get owned my Buakaw, Souwer, Yodsaenklai, and the other big dogs of the sport. He is fast though - I'll give him that - but lacks a lot of kicking power compared to the other big dogs.

Serkan fought well, but he really has to work on clinching. I think it was all the knee strikes who gave Duane the little extra points he needed to win. Futher I think Serkan has the potential to get far in k1-max.
I absolutely agree with you. Everyone has got a different way of fighting yilmaz. Masato and kohiruimaki went for his left leg. Ludwig went for the clinch and the knee strikes. Can't wait to see what buakaw will do. imo, buakaw will win though.
Entertaining fight! Really hard to judge since 3rd round wasn't convincing at all. As for damage inflicted I guarantee Ludwig won the fight but I'm not sure how K-1 scores tbh and how positive they are to strikes from the clinch.

He got kneed in the head and he was still standing. wow. but that wasn't a knock down. K-1 has horrible referees. Yilmaz got mistreated through out his K-1 career. I hope he never returns to K-1 because he's going to get mistreated again and his talent shouldn't be wasted.

Ludwig is only a mediocre Muay Thai guy. Yilmaz would get owned my Buakaw, Souwer, Yodsaenklai, and the other big dogs of the sport. He is fast though - I'll give him that - but lacks a lot of kicking power compared to the other big dogs.

Serkan fought well, but he really has to work on clinching. I think it was all the knee strikes who gave Duane the little extra points he needed to win. Futher I think Serkan has the potential to get far in k1-max.

I absolutely agree with you. Everyone has got a different way of fighting yilmaz. Masato and kohiruimaki went for his left leg. Ludwig went for the clinch and the knee strikes. Can't wait to see what buakaw will do. imo, buakaw will win though.

Entertaining fight! Really hard to judge since 3rd round wasn't convincing at all. As for damage inflicted I guarantee Ludwig won the fight but I'm not sure how K-1 scores tbh and how positive they are to strikes from the clinch.

What is so wrong with just liking stand up fighting? I agree with you. Everytime I say i am more entertained by to men toe to toe everyone brings up the phrase "real fighting" or no holds barred.
