Geez, for the love of God, UPSHIFT! When you're hitting the limiter, you're not accelerating and wasting time. Fair enough if it's the odd brush, but this guy bangs it like he's trying to blow it up! Nice missed shifts, too - if I was Dodge I'd be pissed that it didn't do a quicker time due to driver error. And leaving it in fourth gear down the straight?! It has 5th AND 6th gears still to go!?
@TarmacMag he beat the zr1s record and hes a professional racer and has won many championships. obviously he did fine. maybe dodge should tune there car better?
@bigjonnyjon The 599xx is not a street legal car, where the Viper ACR is. How is that a fair comparison? If you want to include non-street legal race cars, then you must allow the BMW F1 race car, driven by Nick Heidfeld, which absolutely TROUNCES the 599xx into the dirt. Unless you limit the comparison to street legal vehicles, then you're just making apples to oranges comparisons of no logical rationale.
well, the acr hood vents also play a HUGE part, the vette wouldnt really bare with the Viper, and with the now ACR-X the vette wont be able to compete
They obviously didn't need it. Currently, the Viper ACR is 2nd fastest around the ring. 3rd if you count the Radical SR-1. The only other fully street legal car to beat is the Gumpert Apollo Sport. I do agree with others' comments though. This car could definitely have posted a faster time with a cleaner lap.
look how cheap chysler makes their vehicles, the shifter bounces like crazy, but of course the driver is ramming the shit out of that engine and the transmission.
nurburgring is the one of the longest tracks in the world, the back straight away alone is close to 4 miles long. It is also fucking terrifing with blind corners and a shit load of elevation changes. You can rent porsche gt3 and other cars and drive it if you ever go to germany
Because he is slowing down a little around that turn and it's only hitting rev limit for a couple seconds. This way as he comes out of the turn, he has much more power to open up with, and go from there.
If he shifted, he'd lose a lot of time coming out of the corner. It's basics. I do the same thing even in regular street driving (not racing). 6000 RPM in 2nd gear will give you more power than 2500 in 3rd.
Went to the Chicago Auto Show and this actual car was there....all with the owners, drivers and pit crew signing the wing.....they had the monitor beside the car showing this vid. To all you Viper bashers, until 'your' car comes first and beats the track record keep the comments to yourself coz it just makes you sound like sore losers...when and if 'your' car comes first and breaks the track record then I will say the car is good until then VIPER RULES!
The GTR smashes both reguardless of having a slower time? What the hell kind of world do you live in? The GTR is TT, ZR-1 is SC, and ACR is NA. BTW, not all Americans are fat
You big fat cowboys are so funny arguing about the Viper and ZR1. Both cars are complete garbage. So they took a big fat and heavy 6.2 ZR1 and 8.4 Viper engine and hardly beat the 3.8 Litre GTR at the N'ring. Don't worry you yankee doodles the Spec V is coming and will obliterate these piece of cockroaches Viper and ZR1. No wonder why Chrysler and GM are going bankrupt and become extinct. Sorry hillbillies.
Man you are so Jealous it is just burning you up.. Can't wait you read your latest excuses when the Spec V still can't beat the Vette or Viper on the Ring....
engine size is by far not the most important thing on a track such as this. it is too complex for your small dumb mind. so what if they have big engines? its was developed to make crazy downforce, absorb good levels of G's etc. and not only to have a big engine and lots of power.
like thudtheace said, youre just jealous.
i love spec v's, but these are cars in different classes indeed. u cant just compare that.

Get someone who knows the track AND the car. I counted so many times you could have gained fractions of a second just in missed shifts, bad corner angles, wrong speed entries, etc, that there's another 10 seconds at least, in the car.
The driver is DEFINITELY used to euro engines that have to be wound to make power. A little learning on his part, to use the Viper's awesome torque would definitely improve his game.

The view is awesome, and it would've been in the teens if it wasn't for other traffic.
Congrats Dodge! Some observations after watching both runs; 1) the ACR gearing is off (too many rev limiter hits, by the way, this same issue was noted in a high speed comparo where the ACR did not fare well on the banked oval), 2) the ACR has a race tuned suspension (notice it bottomed out several times), and 3) notice the gear shift bobbling on the last straight (this machine does not buffer much if any for the driver). Viper=10 for raw speed, 1 for comfort; ZR1=9 for raw speed, 9 for comfort!
seriously get over yourself! dumb shit i mean an acr is a modified viper what's the standard viper? not the srt 10 stock! the gtr was a test car annndd! does this you slate the gallardo or r8 as they have awd? no because they are not as fast as a ACR with working splitter and rear wing with a downforce metre in the vid.
Dodge and Nissan for their runs used full on race car drivers, Chevy used an engineer without a lot of seat time in hi performance cars! He was all over the place on the ZR1's run, not a very smooth driver at all. Put Johnny O'connell in the ZR1 and I would bet on a sub 7:20 time!
I know that on quite a few of the corners there was no point shifting up and he was better off just bouncing it off the limiter a few times. But damn man. On some of those he just let it bounce for what seemed like ages, da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da. Could have squeezed in an good few mph. And he was bouncing on the limiter a few times on the straights too, especially when he left the corners in second. He seems to like that gear more than the others.
some really stupid comments there from yanks, lets look a some key things, no the vip[er is not standard ist tweaked! are you telling me the 7.22 viper is any different to thye zr 1? no they are both re tuned road cars viper has a wing and uprated suspension which is adjustable. im no biast but the gtr is down by how much horsepower? and its not a light weight car. even if nissan used test parts its still down on horse power and heavier. 120hp? 188 kg of weight wow!
First of all your the stupid ass riceboy, both the viper and the vette only adjusted the setting of their "FULLY ADJUSTABLE FOR A REASON" race suspension, with no parts changed excepted for putting harness seats in for security. You dumb jap lovers just try to make excuses for the fact that your gt-r pos lost. Your gt-r is also AWD and has a ton and a half load of computer stabilization programs. The viper and vette are just simple beautiful racing designs, period.
ok sorry to burst your bubble but the acr is more stock than the zr1.the zr1 is supercharged, how is that bone stock? both of these cars are produced with these upgrades and the viper won fairly (naturally aspirated) with less horsepower, therefore beating the vette.stop with the excuses, just take the kick in the nuts.dodge outsmarted chevy instead of a horsepower war they gave blowtie a low blow.
The ZR1 is stock yes, but to say it isn't a modified car isn't entirely accurate. It would be like saying the Porsche 911 Turbo is a stock 911 when it isn't.
Yes I know what you mean. As a ZR1 it is stock, as a Corvette it isn't. I should have made myself more clear. If you are comparing it to it's European rivals such as the Zonda F or the Ferrari Enzo they are complete stock cars, although pretty radical ones at that. I hope you understand what I mean.
I know what you mean. But I just don't agree with people when they say that the ZR1 hasn't been modified. The ZR1 is a modified Corvette and nobody seems to be able to grasp that fact.
You are an idiot, the ACR isn't stock either if you want to use your fucked up definition of "stock." The ACR with hand adjustable suspenion and spoiler. Hmmmmmm... Think about it now? Not too mention Jan Magnussen, a real driver for the Vette, already beat the Viper's time.
As far as I'm aware the new ZR1 time is 7.22.4 and the ACR is 7.22.1 so if that's true then your definition of 'fucked up' is just that. And yet again somebody else starts talking by misinterpreting my point. The Viper ACR is a modified version of the standard Viper, much like the ZR1 - yes technically a stock car but it has been modified from it's original state. Please start reading things properly before you come back with anymore bullshit please, thanks.
whats amusing is the vipers time had multiple misshifts and on the back straight he didnt take it out of fifth, and he hit the rev limiter quite a bit. Its an under 7:20 car
Fake? That is funny, how do you know where he was? Do you have a GPS locator on him? Why would Corvette fake it? They already know they can exact the time of the Viper.
no....it was published in road and track by his personal agent. do you honestly think a car like the zr1 will run with the acr on the nurburgring? no offense but you sound like someone who thinks all cars are in the same league because you've only ever played need for speed. im guessing, 8-12? do you have a clue what downforce is? do you have any idea what kind of car it takes to break the record at nordschliefe? if you think a car like the zr1 can run with this on this course no.
It can and it did. Never played Need for Speed but have played Grid. That game though hasn't influenced me at all. I obviously know what downforce is, hence the wing/spoiler on the back. Sure the downforce put out by the Viper is far greater, but put a wing on the Vette and you will have a new champ. For a car with no wing to run just a few tenths of a second off a record setting car with a wing is amazing. It can and does run with the ACR.
the 7:22.4 time is an official joke, the ONE source that gave us that time and jan magnussen have said so. but seriously you are 8-12 years old!! with the chassis, aerodynamics, tires, and the track you're comparing these two cars on the acr is much faster and its higher limits were also much easier to reach. this is even with the poor gearing setup for this course. it doesn't matter that the zr1 is faster in a straight line here.
If u're saying putting a supercharger into the car in the factory is modified, well yes. It's modified, improved version of older versions. So what? It's still a production car. It's not like the GT-R has got no forced induction TT.
That's what I said. I was replying to someone who said that the ZR1 was not a modified Corvette and that he was making out that it was totally different bespoke car. It is a stock Corvette which has been modified from the standard C6. Just like a 911 Turbo is a modified 911 but it is stock as a 911 turbo - if that makes sense?
I noticed how you conveniently left out that the viper is a v-10 and the ZR1 is a v-8....but yet you mention the supercharger....but with a user name such as yours...i understand
The Zri doesnt have a shaking gearshift like the widley shaking gearshift of the ACR. Plus the Viper has stepplates that will burn your leg. The damn thing is un drivable.
good video but i must say he missed a gear or two which slowed the time plus he never shifted into 6th on the last straight of the course, could have been much faster :)
fyi, driver Tom Coronel won the Marlboro Masters of Formula 3 race in 1997, the Formula Nippon championship in 1999, and the 2006 World Touring Car Championship Independents' Trophy. Look it up. - Chrysler communications
That's what i'm talking about, good job viper and corvette. american cars are the top and it's now been proven. eat that gt-r shitbags.
by the way you can tell theres space for even more improvement if the had a better driver, i a bunch of parts where the driver was slacking and could have given a little more press. either way it's still the faster car on the track, good job.
look at this retard. the ACR was completely stock, another kid who doesnt know a thing hes talking about. the viper was completely stock they only made adjustments so the completely adjustible equipment you dumb shit. and second the gt-r was the car that was heavily modified, look it up next time dumb shit. the only reason they didn't annonce the mods for the gt-r was because nissan was using them as testing of what they might use in their spec-v, even moddified got its ass wooped.
The Porsche 956 a true Prototype race from the 1980's completed a lap of 6:41 during practice. Perhaps that isn't a fair comparison considering consider it had 600+ hp and weighed aprox. 1800 lb. Not a road car by any means
Sure it is. Maybe you should read the international press version of the story not Portugal propaganda!!......Dude, Europe got beat by a Dodge ! HA HA!!!!
Well, closed, private track helps doesn't it. Most of the 'car records' are set under those conditions, including that of the radical. Suzuki GSXR1000 in virtually standard trim will lap around 7.20 with traffic!
Never happended. No GXSR or any production motorcycle has EVER come close to this time. The fastest EVER recorded motorcycle time is 7:21.8 seconds, BUT this is on a shortened track which is 1,720 meters less than what was done here. This would add Approx. 30 seconds to the run.
Shifting takes time too. If you know there's a corner just a while away and u're probably going to need to slow down, then why bother shifting up then down and down again?

lol no choice because if he shifted up, he would have to down shift right away, and at some points down shift twice which hurts the time even more

sometimes its quicker to ride the limiter without changing gears if there is no need to accelerate any further.
maximus14433 2 years ago
its faster to hold it on the limiter than to shit up and then shift back down again. It also gives less opportunities for missed shifts.

The ZR1 is a better buy, more comfortable.

Still kick my ass though

some really stupid comments there from yanks, lets look a some key things, no the vip[er is not standard ist tweaked! are you telling me the 7.22 viper is any different to thye zr 1? no they are both re tuned road cars viper has a wing and uprated suspension which is adjustable. im no biast but the gtr is down by how much horsepower? and its not a light weight car. even if nissan used test parts its still down on horse power and heavier. 120hp? 188 kg of weight wow!
simwctr 3 years ago
First of all your the stupid ass riceboy, both the viper and the vette only adjusted the setting of their "FULLY ADJUSTABLE FOR A REASON" race suspension, with no parts changed excepted for putting harness seats in for security. You dumb jap lovers just try to make excuses for the fact that your gt-r pos lost. Your gt-r is also AWD and has a ton and a half load of computer stabilization programs. The viper and vette are just simple beautiful racing designs, period.

This Viper had suspension and aero upgrades. The Corvette ZR1 was BONE STOCK on pump gas.
If the ZR1 had these simple mods it could probably shed 4 seconds off its laps, therefore beating the Viper.
cjm502 3 years ago
ok sorry to burst your bubble but the acr is more stock than the zr1.the zr1 is supercharged, how is that bone stock? both of these cars are produced with these upgrades and the viper won fairly (naturally aspirated) with less horsepower, therefore beating the vette.stop with the excuses, just take the kick in the nuts.dodge outsmarted chevy instead of a horsepower war they gave blowtie a low blow.
hennesseyttvenom 3 years ago
Sorry to burst you're bubble but the ZR1 comes with a supercharger.
cjm502 3 years ago
The ZR1 is stock yes, but to say it isn't a modified car isn't entirely accurate. It would be like saying the Porsche 911 Turbo is a stock 911 when it isn't.
StuRaz 3 years ago
The ZR1 comes stock "modified". Therefore it is not modified, it is stock.
cjm502 3 years ago 3
Yes I know what you mean. As a ZR1 it is stock, as a Corvette it isn't. I should have made myself more clear. If you are comparing it to it's European rivals such as the Zonda F or the Ferrari Enzo they are complete stock cars, although pretty radical ones at that. I hope you understand what I mean.
StuRaz 3 years ago
your right..its not a stock BASE model vette it's a STOCK ZR1 vette.....stock doesn't mean base model..it means unmodified from the factory.
speedfiend74 3 years ago
I know what you mean. But I just don't agree with people when they say that the ZR1 hasn't been modified. The ZR1 is a modified Corvette and nobody seems to be able to grasp that fact.
StuRaz 3 years ago
You are an idiot, the ACR isn't stock either if you want to use your fucked up definition of "stock." The ACR with hand adjustable suspenion and spoiler. Hmmmmmm... Think about it now? Not too mention Jan Magnussen, a real driver for the Vette, already beat the Viper's time.
larsen550 3 years ago
As far as I'm aware the new ZR1 time is 7.22.4 and the ACR is 7.22.1 so if that's true then your definition of 'fucked up' is just that. And yet again somebody else starts talking by misinterpreting my point. The Viper ACR is a modified version of the standard Viper, much like the ZR1 - yes technically a stock car but it has been modified from it's original state. Please start reading things properly before you come back with anymore bullshit please, thanks.
StuRaz 3 years ago
whats amusing is the vipers time had multiple misshifts and on the back straight he didnt take it out of fifth, and he hit the rev limiter quite a bit. Its an under 7:20 car
biker1510 3 years ago
Yes true. It is a very very impressive track car.
StuRaz 3 years ago
7;22.4 is officialy fake, jan magnussen wasn't in europe when that run "happened".
venomviper32 2 years ago
Fake? That is funny, how do you know where he was? Do you have a GPS locator on him? Why would Corvette fake it? They already know they can exact the time of the Viper.
larsen550 2 years ago
no....it was published in road and track by his personal agent. do you honestly think a car like the zr1 will run with the acr on the nurburgring? no offense but you sound like someone who thinks all cars are in the same league because you've only ever played need for speed. im guessing, 8-12? do you have a clue what downforce is? do you have any idea what kind of car it takes to break the record at nordschliefe? if you think a car like the zr1 can run with this on this course no.
venomviper32 2 years ago
It can and it did. Never played Need for Speed but have played Grid. That game though hasn't influenced me at all. I obviously know what downforce is, hence the wing/spoiler on the back. Sure the downforce put out by the Viper is far greater, but put a wing on the Vette and you will have a new champ. For a car with no wing to run just a few tenths of a second off a record setting car with a wing is amazing. It can and does run with the ACR.
larsen550 2 years ago
the 7:22.4 time is an official joke, the ONE source that gave us that time and jan magnussen have said so. but seriously you are 8-12 years old!! with the chassis, aerodynamics, tires, and the track you're comparing these two cars on the acr is much faster and its higher limits were also much easier to reach. this is even with the poor gearing setup for this course. it doesn't matter that the zr1 is faster in a straight line here.
venomviper32 2 years ago
If u're saying putting a supercharger into the car in the factory is modified, well yes. It's modified, improved version of older versions. So what? It's still a production car. It's not like the GT-R has got no forced induction TT.
VeeKain 2 years ago
That's what I said. I was replying to someone who said that the ZR1 was not a modified Corvette and that he was making out that it was totally different bespoke car. It is a stock Corvette which has been modified from the standard C6. Just like a 911 Turbo is a modified 911 but it is stock as a 911 turbo - if that makes sense?
As a ZR1, it's stock. As a Corvette, it isn't.
StuRaz 2 years ago
True.
VeeKain 2 years ago
It comes bone stock from the factory with the supercharger. There ya go m8.
Prototypexl 3 years ago
I noticed how you conveniently left out that the viper is a v-10 and the ZR1 is a v-8....but yet you mention the supercharger....but with a user name such as yours...i understand
speedfiend74 3 years ago
The Zri doesnt have a shaking gearshift like the widley shaking gearshift of the ACR. Plus the Viper has stepplates that will burn your leg. The damn thing is un drivable.
cleftronix 3 years ago
Funny ive never burned my leg before.
SidewaysGts 3 years ago
good video but i must say he missed a gear or two which slowed the time plus he never shifted into 6th on the last straight of the course, could have been much faster :)
hennesseyttvenom 3 years ago
Good count, In an interview in AutoReview he said he could have done better if he hadn't missed shifted TWO gear changes.

SunDownPoint 3 years ago
i agree completely man american cars are tops.

look at this retard. the ACR was completely stock, another kid who doesnt know a thing hes talking about. the viper was completely stock they only made adjustments so the completely adjustible equipment you dumb shit. and second the gt-r was the car that was heavily modified, look it up next time dumb shit. the only reason they didn't annonce the mods for the gt-r was because nissan was using them as testing of what they might use in their spec-v, even moddified got its ass wooped.
SunDownPoint 3 years ago 2
The Porsche 956 a true Prototype race from the 1980's completed a lap of 6:41 during practice. Perhaps that isn't a fair comparison considering consider it had 600+ hp and weighed aprox. 1800 lb. Not a road car by any means
dbell962 3 years ago
Sure it is. Maybe you should read the international press version of the story not Portugal propaganda!!......Dude, Europe got beat by a Dodge ! HA HA!!!!

@fenivision: why would he change gears when he would just have to downshift again a half second later before the turn?
jester26one 3 years ago
Well, closed, private track helps doesn't it. Most of the 'car records' are set under those conditions, including that of the radical. Suzuki GSXR1000 in virtually standard trim will lap around 7.20 with traffic!
bladeboy2041 3 years ago
Never happended. No GXSR or any production motorcycle has EVER come close to this time. The fastest EVER recorded motorcycle time is 7:21.8 seconds, BUT this is on a shortened track which is 1,720 meters less than what was done here. This would add Approx. 30 seconds to the run.
vipcon1 3 years ago
nonsense trying to beat or break a record with traffic
its not a game, its real
or you never came here, but it's better like this

Shifting takes time too. If you know there's a corner just a while away and u're probably going to need to slow down, then why bother shifting up then down and down again?

Please keep the hand-built Dodge Viper SRT10 in production and please return to professional GT racing with Oreca and Zakspeed.
