If there's an outage there is nothing they can do over a phone as for when it's back up.. are they mind readers?

  • My family lives in Birmingham, it has to be one of the worst areas to service. we've had charter.. AT&T and some other company. It really doesn't matter who you go with.. We've had problems with everyone of the company's and cable or not customer service sucks period. Try dealing with HP and get back with me..lol. I notice though.. when you live in the boonies it's sometimes better to go with satelite (less interference) if you live in the city go with broadband.

Every single call I've made to support they've said either "Sir, there's an outage in your area" or "We have to call in a technician". It baffles me how this company is still around with all its negative feedback it gets from customers. This company is a big fat fucking lie. They'll do anything to take your money. FUCK YOU CHARTER!

  • Typical Charter Bull. Every 3 months I go though some BS about why the internet is not working. It works then drops very 30Min. Then when it gets really back, I drive over to the local payment center to ask for a refund. The next week the external IP address for my area is changed again and the internet is working. This crap has been going on for 5 F'ng years! It's so crappy, I have a DSL line as backup since the Charter is down so often.

  • Cable has been out for two hours. Understandable, except it went out for 3 hours earlier this week and quite frequently. For no apparent reason. Not to mention how the internet connection speeds are terrible. More than two laptops connected to a wireless router and its like having dial up again.

  • Funny. I live near Hoover as well. I had been with DirecTv for 14 years and can count on one hand the # of hours I'd been without service over those 14 years. I had ATT for my home phone and had maybe 2-3 days worth of trouble in 14 years. Switched to Charter 2 months ago and I've already made the calls to switch back to ATT and DirecTV. My bundle of services (phone, tv, internet) are all out and have been for a full day now with no ETA of when I'll have my services restored. Charter SUCKS

  • The worst and they get away with it because there is no one else that can provide the service in my area. I called them about 8 times to get internet that goes on and off like a light bulb about to go off. Then they start to play games with your bill. Just wait, one day we'll all be getting settlements from they get sued in a class action for what they do.

  • DUDE YES!!! I'm in Hartselle Alabama and I swear, they are the most terrible piece of shit fucking internet company I've ever known. Writing this using their shitty service as we speak. I've had in and out dropping internet for 2 months, and had 3 techs come out and they say that can't do anything. He told me they are using ancient hardware. They have throttled my internet to 10Mbps, I pay for 26Mbps. Even after the throttling... THEY ARE STILL HAVING GOD DAMN FUCKING PROBLEMS!!!

  • I have Charter Cable and this is how much it sucks: i live by the beach and the (Charter) cables outside my house are gray from the salty air (and the fact that they haven't changed them in almost 30 years). My husband & I keep telling them to change them, but they don't listen. PG&E change their wires about every 5 years as does the phone company. Why can't Charter? Doesn't their ad say that their customers are number 1? They have a great product, it's their "Customer Service" that sucks!!

  • Charter service is horrible. The service reps can't do anything about the infrastructure problems, and the field techs can only try to band aid fix things for specific customers. Results...short term fixes that result in repeat calls.

    The only way to permanently fix Cable company service delivery is to have elected officials change the way you are billed. Ask your politicians to enact legislation that will meter service and service quality delivered to your residence.

  • I work in the call center in Brownsville, TX and we are not even allowed to play solitaire. Seriously I try my best to help every customer i talk to sometimes unfortunately there is no hope for some. Charter works 2 ways either u get good service or u have lots of problems it all depends on your location and poles. charter doesn't exist in my area but if it did i would not subscribe. Just know u have a better chance if your nice at the tech helping u out because we hear all your complaints!

  • I've been reading all the comments and i can't believe the responses. I've had charter internet for over 6 years and never have any trouble. I think a lot of users issues are that they are completely ignorant to how their computers and internet work. A little education goes a long way. Then you get a bunch of morons calling in saying charter sucks and they don't have internet when the problem is them. They are probably running a shitty computer with no security.

I've tried to talk to them politely and explain my problem in detail. They've sent out 4 line techs and replaced the wire outside TWICE. There's some problem with their equipment out on the utility pole. Of course they deny that there's anything wrong and won't address the problem. Charter if you read this, please go sodomize yourself with a 3 foot iron pole.

Then they sent it to the Production company that made the movie who in turn sent the info to Charter. Charter then contacted you. The first offence is normally a warning.   • Charter is beyond awful, but it's the same as anyone else. Outsourced call centers where the employees are rated on how quickly a call is processed with no regard for resolution. As long as Americans remain total wusses the more of this we're going to have to put up with. However, one of charter's biggest problems is overbooking their lines. You can just keep connecting stuff to their network, but every bit of wirespace lowers the overall signal.

  • the charter internet service (Dayton NV) was fine until about 2 months ago, no it has poor latency issues or drops me me from sites all together. Yeah sure, When I do a connection speed test it seems fine, but at time I'm watching a Netflix streamed movie and it will lose the connection intermittently. I think it has to do with how Qwest handles their routing. I've used Netstat and Tracert to follow the ms routing times and it can be over 100ms to completely timing out.

  • This is the plain truth about Charter... Two years ago they changed their customer service to be handled in India. Now when you have to call them (which is often) the person on the other end of the phone has NO clue what you are talking about. Charter claims it's to save you money but after 7 years with them my bill just goes up. In short.. Their Internet is shit, their cable is shit and forget calling them about it, you'll wait 1 1/2 hours to talk to some-one who can't and won't help.

  • I've lost count of how many problem's I've had with Charter. Rescheduled one appointment 3 times then they brought the wrong cable box. Got a year of free movie channels out of it though. When they do come with the right equipment, the techs I've had fix the problem in a jiffy. Of course they say there will be no service charge and there always is but when I call Charter they always take it off. Still a hassle, they will never get it right. No wonder they've lost so much money and are bankrupt.

    second) go to start, run type CMD then run IPCONFIG whats the ip address, 169, 192, etc third he should have checked the GODDAMNED NODE! just because birmingham is in anoutage doesn't mean that you are in an outage, your node might not be affected... SO MANY things wrong with these techs, what it probably was is that they couldn't sell tyo you so they got you off the phone.. ARRRRRRRGH

  • I work for charter and our System Techs in our area have an average outage fix time of 45 minutes. We get up at 1am in the morning out of bed to help with outages.

  • The current cable company infrastructure is a "node" structure. Any outage exists in a LOCAL environment, save a fiber cut - which is beyond any provider's control. The "node" structure involves a communications "node" that serves a maximum of about 500 customers. The node is fiber-fed, and this (theoretically) eliminates the need to roll trucks long distances for repairs. Essentially, if YOU are having problems, so are your neighbors. The problem here is a call center in INDIA. Pathetic.

  • Yes, nodes connect to amps/line extenders and then connect to taps which connect to the homes. I love working for Charter, but the customer service does suck. Once you guys get a hold of a technician, you should be happy.

  • I have to agree. When my neighborhood was out we were told by Charter that we didn't have an outage. Our entire area is leaving Charter and going with DSL, DirecTV, and back to AT&T phone service! AT&T is having to put in new plugs for their DSL service and DirecTV is taking a month before we can get installed. Pretty soon no one in this area will use Charter - as far as we are concerned they can go out of business.

  • Charter is garbage. They have the worst cable service of all the companies I have ever used. They have constant outages and I constant problems with the service. I recommend satellite if faced with Charter. And Charter is the only time I've recommended satellite over cable.

  • All Charter customers. Each of the people spoken to in this clip were from foreign call centers. I take call after call from people who are upset about agents not being helpful, and not being easy to understand. Here's the problem, Charter cares about SALES. PERIOD! They are looking at closing more American call centers now because the outsourced call centers outsell us. The easiest way to eliminate the foreign agents is to not buy ANYTHING from foreign agents, and tell them why.

Which leaves about 10% for actually troubleshooting because when no the service we provide for customers in small markets are shit. We Avg. $1 per call in tech support it makes sense not to upgrade the line. In this case you have made charter 4 dollars! former csragent

  • and just as a response the the ignorant pakistani or indian or whatever (jules07v) this guy is the only reason why you f**king pakis even work for us is because charter only pays you like what 5 cents an hr to tell someone they have to wait 30 mins for a cable mdm to come online when it taks seconds....The only reason why escalations is in the phillipens is because its cheaper...They must know that the majority of you guys can do your job write and were the ones always fixing your guys f**k ups.

  • Every time I get on XBL it kicks me out every 10 to 15 minutes. The same thing happens with all of my internet accounts.

I work in a Canadian center, and we handle escalations and spend most of our time correcting mistakes you guys make. Also we can never understand your poor spelling and grammar in the notes to see why the customer has been calling in the first place.

  • i wish their was a way to put these pricks out of business. they have the worst internet service of any isp anywhere. they remove channels from your lineup and place them in the tier above which forces you to upgrade. usually about 15 fucks more a month if you do so. or you can go to directv and give charter the finger.

  • Wow...this is almost exactly like what I went through. I mean with the who outage BS and no one being held accountable for what the last person just told you. Three weeks now and still all of the problems haven't been fixed. At least I can get online now.

  • I used to live in Russet Woods(2002). They BS'd us about inside wiring until Bellsouth DSL came. DAYS later Charter came and rewired the area. So much for inside wiring.

    One guy repeatedly said the problem was inside, I made him hold while I hooked the service wire directly to the back of the modem: ZILCH! When I told him...

    HE HUNG UP ON ME!
