  • yvonne's voice is so sexy and the beat is so smooth just great!!!!!

  • Wow!!!

  • Perfect!!!Just perfect!!!

  • I CANT FIND A BAD VERSION OF THIS SONG(NOT THAT IM LOOKING) I GUESS MY MEMORIES OF THE TIME AND OF THE PEOPLE I KNEW THEN WILL ALWAYS MAKE THIS A WONDERFUL SONG FOR ME

  • Very sultry!

  • no offense..yvonne's rendition is the best..this song was written before the singer was discovered..thanks to her role as Mary Magdalene in the movie version of Jesus Christ Superstar..she may not have reached the kind of success she so deserved, but she will always be remembered as one fine good singer and this being one of her 2 masterpieces(the other one-I don't know how to love Him)..

  • jack wolf--shubop shubop was a throw back to the 50's ''dowop' AKA clasicc soul

  • Hermosa canción. Me transporta a los años 70s. Se la dedico a MARIA CLAUDIA OCHOA MORENO que conocí en 1981, dice JORGE ALBERTO BARON desde Bogotá, Colombia, Suramérica.

  • The only two people that sound good singing this song are Barbara Lewis and Yvonne Elliman. Number 1 they do not need Autotune to sound great.

  • this is better!!!

  • @popoahi99 I agree

  • What does shubop shubop mean? (i hate to be such a dork asking this question)

  • This song never would get old. 100 years from now, people would still be re-issuing a CD or digital disc featuring this song too

  • This is from the album Ripper '77 (Australia.).

  • Yvonne's rendition is more soothing.

  • This has always--ALWAYS-- been my very favorite version of this masterpiece, written by the Late-Great, Van McCoy. Yvonne makes it sexy, & longing, from Fall of '76. Wolfsky9

  • why put up a stoopid beyoncee ad up in front of this

  • A mighty long time is but a second in eternity

  • this is closest to the original that i have heard, awesome

  • Wow ,what a awesome rendition of this great song, this lady sings straight from the heart.,such feeling!

  • Hermosa melodia, me encanta

  • Yvonne did a fabulous job on this one! Love it! Could listen to this over and over again! God, I feel this in the pit of my stomach! Love it, Love it, Love it! Why did she EVER stop making music? WHAT A VOICE! Yvonne, come back to us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is a more up-beat and feel-good version. My vote goes to yvonne.

  • The best voice, good compose, and brilliant musicien,

meet on the right or same moment.

  • que linda..... musica .....

  • Pity she's known mainly for 'If I can't have you'. Amazing voice, wonderful track.

  • niceeeeeee!! when music was so pure!!

  • It has kept the feeling of Barbara's original version

  • Schiedam België

  • Yvonne hit #15 in Billboard, 5-21-77. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • I think the girl from Hawaii did pretty good for herself. I can appreciate Barbara Lewis's & Yvonne Elliman's versions they are both kool.

  • Both Ms Elliman's and Lewis's versions are great! What I like more about the later version is the dry vocal sound, which makes it feel more warm and present, whereas Ms Elliman's vocal has more reverb/echo on it, which makes it sound more distant.

  • "Hey man" this is Yvonne's song all the way. The harmonies, the silkiness of her voice. It's like she's singing this song to me personally...plus she was a spunk!!!

  • Mmm. As she gets into the song more, it gets better though. Barbara Lewis has such a mellow voice though.

  • Nice but she doesn't have a voice like Barbara Lewis. No one does. I think I like Queen Latifah's version better than this one. I have her 'The Dana Owens Collection' cd. Very nice!

  • Yvonne one of my favorites....she's one of Eric Clapton's background singer if I'm not mistaken?....

  • Orale! This vato listened to this song in my 69 Cutlass, who would have known, that this past Jan. would make 32 years that I still live in Hawaii! Yvonne, I still love you! Orale carnales quidado con la hooda ....

  • To this day I still have a hard time believing she and Nicollette Larson are gone.

  • What wonderful version. Barbara's version is just a tiny (quantum) bit more convincing, and she plays with the words/vocals a bit more. Barbara being slightly older at the time has the ring of conviction too. Barbara also seems to be both sweet and sexy on her vocals. Yvonne too has these qualities, Barbara just slightly more so. Great version nonetheless. Too bad Yvonne didn't do Baby I'm Yours. Or did she?

  • @shellyboy9 NOT THAT I KNOW OF

  • @RAREGROOVEMAN1 thanks for an actuallyhigh def version of the song much love

  • @shellyboy9 Barbara Lewis was 20 years old when she wrote and recorded "Hello Stranger". Elliman was 26 when she did her cover version.

  • @pigfootandbeer Thanx man. I stand corrected.

  • @shellyboy9 True Barbara was first and set the standard but yvonne has a easier less strained voice and a more nuanced delivery. Both are great but I vote for yvonne

  • @tomrevitt Thankfully we live in a country in a country where we can agree to disagree without penalty. Glad to talk to music lovers.

  • @shellyboy9 Alsolutely agree. Have a great holliday

  • best version ever

  • Que bello que cantas Yvonne, de verdad que la felicito por regalarnos ésta bella melodía.

  • This is a fine arrangement of "Hello, Stranger," but it lacks the moving, soulful rendering of Barbara Lewis' original, backed by the Dells, from the summer of 1963...

  • @50Emerald yeah ... there's a quiet longing in Barbara's version that is only imitated in the Elliman version though Queen Latifah did a great cover, too. Hard to beat the original though.

  • @DocDLH have to agree with you..can't touch Barbara's version but Queen Latifah did a real good job

  • I've listened to both today (back to back). Although I think Yvonne Elliman does a great job, I'm old-school and Barbara Lewis' rendtion will always be my favorite. It brings back memories of when I was a little girl. Thanks for sharing both!

  • The Original is yet to be surpassed. Barbara's voice sounds so silky, as she says

'Hello stranger, , for me that was enough to make her and that song 'ONE''.

Not to take anything away from Yvonne, she's experimenting and has talent.

    but Barbara was different class.

  • que saudade....

  • This is So lacking in Soul!!

  • @pharcelle1 OK LETS HEAR ONE YOU LIKE

  • Hello

  • Love Yvonne

  • awesome cruisin sounds

  • YVONNE OR BARBARA WHO CARES BEAUTIFUL SONG BEAUTIFUL VOICES, BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES BEAUTIFUL WOMEN

  • Hardout great song!!! Love her voice, now she's a woman who can sing......but has anyone out there got Rock Me Slowly from the 1979 album "Yvonne" ...Been searching for this song,

  • Forgot to mention, too. . . Barbara Lewis actually wrote this herself.

  • What's a miracle about Barbara Lewis' version is that all they had was her voice, a drum and a regular old hammond organ. They didn't have "tracks" or ways to enhance the sound like they have today. What you heard is what was recorded, period. And, there was no stereo, just plain old mono. Listen to Barbara Lewis again, with all this in mind. Yvonne Elliman is an angel, but I think even she would bow to Barbara Lewis' version.

  • @midwestantiquer The best cover of this song ever. Not as a good as Barbara Lewis original but way better than Queen Latifah version. Does that answer your question?

  • this is faaaar faaaaar better than Queen Latifah

  • the original is nice but i think i prefer this one.. brilliant!

  • I have heard both version, but this one is definitely the better version!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice sound to this.

  • Yvonne sang this song to perfection!

  • sono d'accordo è meglio dell'originale

  • Whoever disliked this song. Your an idiot.

  • She has a smoke and whiskey kind of voice...husky, sexy...

  • If you`re not gonna stay please don`t treat me like you did before.

  • @j1o2y3c4e If you`re not gonna stay please don't treat me like you did before.

  • Damm her voice is sexy!!!

  • Am I the only one who thinks that Barbara Lewis' version is better??? This version is a travesty

  • @emems87 i feel you this chick needs too sit down somewhere and smack her self

  • Besides Barbara's version, you need to check out Queen Latifahs version.I never knew she could blow like that.

  • @13NJJACK I gained some respect for Queen Latifah when I heard that version!

  • Barbara Lewis' version was good, but Yvonne Elliman's is great! Percussion is really good.

  • I just love this version.

  • Where are you now Yvonne. . come sing for us again. We miss you . ...

  • @2009Denisem Ido not know what the original, but this version by Yvonne Elliman is just stunning, cannot get over how beautiful this song is....Love it to bits. Thank you for posting @RAREGROOVEMAN1 and thank you Denise for a beautiful share.

  • @2009Denisem thanks for this request errr i'm sorry i had a change of plans but for sunday thou i'm free!

  • I have to agree. Barbara Lewis sang it first and it's a great sound, but this rendition by Yvonne is just intoxicating. I could listen to her voice all night, along with the super background vocals and musical arrangement.

  • I look for this song about 10 years.

  • U Tube has a copy of this song done by a group called 'Brown Sugar.' Nice piece of work, but this trumps all

  • Great backup vocals

  • Nice, soft , sentimental

The best I hear after decades

  • Sooo real

    Soo soft

    So nice,your the best Yvonne.

    Many thanks.

  • This lady can really sing!!!

  • realmente, maravillosa interpretación.

  • I like Barbara Lewis' version--but Hands-Down, tyis is a Classic rendition--Fall of '76-, & Yvonne did it like it wasa meant to be heard. GBY Forever, Yvonne.

  • This is a *beautiful* treatment of Barbara Lewis' classic from summer, 1963...there's so much feeling in this song...

  • Check out Queen Latifah's even more updated version. I love all three singers' renditions, actually! Great, classic song!!!

  • what a wonderful voice............. i do not know where all such beautiful singers go and leave us craving for their songs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • There is still no voice that can compeet with this perfect voice from the 70s.

  • i still think there's no voice that can compeet on this level back in the 70s.They don't make this kind a music nomore

  • @01bengel But they could. It's just that they won't.

  • me encanta, esta dama deberia de ser mi mujer

  • love this song.a all time favorite of mine!

  • I love Yvonne Elliman's voice. Very mellow and so silky smooth.

  • awesome

  • I was living in NY when Jesus Christ superstar was on Broadway, and got to meet Yvonne Elliman, she is as beautiful inside as outside, and she had a gorgeous voice. saw her on PBS a few years ago and she still sounds as sultry and beautiful as always. love you YVONNE!

  • remember my surfing days and doin nuthing at the beach loved it

  • Classic tune!!! Does anyone have "Rohan Delano - They way we were before." Now there's a tune I've not heard for ages.

  • Gracias a ustedes, linda cancion madre mia, ufff.

  • how long has it been? that music like this was heard n the radio, Classic , an all time fave!

  • I know it's a cover but Yvonne Elliman is awesome !

  • She did do a good job on covering it

  • Yes

  • se la dedico a mis ex ,que las ame mucho

  • I really do like this version and the clarity of her voice.

  • @mikerw102003 YOU SAID IT RIGHT MIKERW... THE CLARITY IS THE BEST!!

  • As much as I think Barbara Lewis' version is pretty nice,I have to say that Yvonne Elliman's rendition beats it by a tenfold. She's the perfect vocalist to give it an updated sound.

  • @AnthonysDen - You know something...I just listened to the Barbara Lewis version and thought to myself, 'self, this isn't the version of the song that sounds familiar'. I just found this version by Yvonne Elliman and BAM! This is the one I love! I agree with you 150%. Barbara's is good but there is something really special about this version.

  • @AnthonysDen

'"tenfold"? you cant really mean that!! barbara lewis' song is way way better.

  • @mrjeepdog Oh well, that's your opinion--you're entitled to it, of course.

  • Yup

  • HIt #1 AC, #14 pop, #57 soul, in Billboard. God bless!

  • My power supply = 4.5 yrs old though. funny thing about that. I replaced it 2 months after I bought my comp.. Warranty covered it. Bad match first time.

  • such a sweet version. yvonne has a real soothing voice. i love it. thanks for posting.

  • such a sweet version. yvonne has a real soothing voice. i love it. thanks for posting.

  • @sookiestackhouse2u I agree totally absolutely controlled and soothing voice.

  • Amen Sheven718,I wish I could go back just one time and relive that era. I miss those days and that song definitely takes me back. Excellent remake!!

  • i fell head over heels in love with this song in the early sixties to the great barbara lewis version still is one of my all time favourite songs, usually when somebody comes along and covers a song i have cherished i dont accept it, but when this version came out, this fresher version it was like hearing it all over again but for the first time ? love both of em, they dont make em like this anymore, wouldnt it be nice to go back, just once, one night, seems like a mighty long time,

  • Thank you for your reply & post. Glad to see someone knows what i am talking about the music of the "good ole day's". What i could give, to turn back the clock of time, just for one day! But we just cherrish the memories and reflect on the way the world was back in the day!

  • both artist have wonderful voices and talent. Glad it was posted.

  • Thank you for posting this - I love it! I had the 45 RPM as a teenager and played the groves off it!

  • Although the original version with Barbra Lewis' vocals is considered to be a classic and the more successful in terms of airplay and record sales, I like this version better. When comparing it to the original, it would be unfair considering how the original was recorded in the early Sixties, while this one was done at a much later time in the Seventies where technology had changed considerably. But that's not mainly why. Personally, "scratchy" effects from older tracks can add to the song's

  • charm and even commemorate the time period, sort of like a timestamp or documentation of music recording history... (wow, even I find what I just wrote to be really corny!). In a nutshell, I prefer Yvonne Elliman's vocals over Lewis'... not that Barbra Lewis didn't sing it well, because it was her version that made me like this song in the first place, but Lewis' style of vibrato annoyed me, you know, how she sounded as if she's gargling with each held note, yikes!

  • We are so lucky they BOTH did this sweet song. WMG pulls one, we set up the other.

My sound card is going, I think. Why are the songs starting to slow down???? Anyone???

  • @sparwood8 your pc's power supply may be going dead on you.

  • @sookiestackhouse2u LOL another $30 ... Everything seems ok now. I think it was a glich with U Tube maybe

  • Those yester years gone by! songs like this just take me away to a time & place where life was soooooo different. Songs like this will always be around for future generations to appreciate what 70's music was all ABOUT! would have loved to seen yvonne gone further with her muscial talents. How many of you out there can relate to my comment????

  • Thanks for posting this one! :) This is the main reason why I love 1970's music, instead of today's music. :) And the original version of this song by Barbara Lewis is also great too! :D

  • First time I've heard this version. No need to compare to the original, but certainly this doesn't take a back seat.

  • My boyfriend and I used to love this song.

I'm not going to get into detail, but my Nick has passed away, as of last August, and I still miss him.

  • Whenever I hear this song I get the feeling she's singing it to me. You can tell she's got a crush on that fella & she does admit she loves him so & though they have been apart for god knows how long you feel her pain of that separation. This song reminds me of another, Yes I'm Ready by Barbara Mason. I get that crazy feeling with her too. I think it has to do with the fact I was falling in love & these 2 songs are embedded in my head. Yes romance is in the air & it can sneak up on you anytime!!

  • Second comment yay, I'm using this as research for a cover version I will be dointg. Thanks for posting!

  • Absolutely love it!!!! thanks for posting....These were good times..
