Your comment made me rage so hard. It's Old Norse, an old Germanic language. The lyrics are adapted from Egil's Saga, which is about Egil, son of Skallagrim, perhaps the most famous heathen warrior-poet of all time. 10/10 troll.

@glupsamja In Snorri's masterpiece Egill Skalla-Grimsson (the icelandic skald) was nephew of a half-orc blooded man able to polymorph and son of a lycan. Egill was both a poet and a warrior (it is said he was a berserkr) and was a very hot-tempered person (it seems that he committed his first omicide at the age of 6 with an axe).

@TheLoconate What is wrong about eating meat? It's just natural. Do you know things better than the nature? If you're spiritual, then I could admit that the unhappieness of the animals transfers to humans when eating them... We should be allowed to eat everything we can!

Icelandic hasn't changed (that much) for hundreds of years so everybody in Iceland or who speaks Icelandic can read and understand the old Edda Saga books.
So even with my little Icelandic I can understand it... :))
Ok, but I also get some Norwegian because of learning more and more Icelandic.
h t t p : / / lyrics . wikia . com / Faun : Egil _ Saga
put it togeher ;)
Icelandic may not have change much in these centuries, but orthographically there're more changes than phonetically...for example: in old icelandic "I" was "ek" , pronounced /ek/ and now is "ég", pronounced /ieg/
But yes, I suppose that who can understand icelandic, can understand mostly all old icelandic...but I'm only guessing, I'm spanish and know only a little of these things :p
@davealcarin hey thanks a lot for the lyrics... I've looked for them for years... I even learned (or thought to learn) the words just by listening, but I wasn't sure what the lyrics were... thanks again

@ishraun I think that's because it's not Icelandic "per se", but Old West Norse...or like some others call it: Old Icelandic. I found several sites where the lyrics are written with old icelandic orthographic forms (and also slightly different pronounciation), like "maðr" and "ok" instead of "maður" and "og". But I'm really not an expert, it's what I think.

@PaganBorn79 Oh, I see. It's such a fascinating invention for someone like me, who is used to the cartons. x') Thank you for answering and not ridiculing me for asking such a stupid question. ^^'

@davelcarin
where can I find these lyrics?
Icelandic hasn't changed (that much) for hundreds of years so everybody in Iceland or who speaks Icelandic can read and understand the old Edda Saga books.
So even with my little Icelandic I can understand it... :))
Ok, but I also get some Norwegian because of learning more and more Icelandic.
ishraun 11 months ago
@ishraun I found them here:
h t t p : / / lyrics . wikia . com / Faun : Egil _ Saga
put it togeher ;)

MoonWrath88 11 months ago
@davealcarin yes your are right, we can understand old Icelandic, it has not change that much.

it is definitly Icelandic - not a very good pronounciation but it is
ishraun 1 year ago
@ishraun I think that's because it's not Icelandic "per se", but Old West Norse...or like some others call it: Old Icelandic. I found several sites where the lyrics are written with old icelandic orthographic forms (and also slightly different pronounciation), like "maðr" and "ok" instead of "maður" and "og". But I'm really not an expert, it's what I think.
