Griff Rhys Jones has faded into an establishment court jester hosting middle class shit on itv at the same age Ronnie Barker was making three iconic comedy shows which a lot of people still clearly remember (just shows an Oxford education does not make you more inspired or able to make profound and lasting pieces of work) Bet very few people can remember many sketches from Alas Smith(where is he now?)

This sketch is genius. They even have the mannerisms down perfectly: Mel arches his eyebrows like Barker, and Jones is doing the shuffling with his arms that Corbet used to do. First rate.

Ronnie Barker was a genius but the level of comedy attained with Not the Nine O'Clock news surpassed anything they ever did by some way. I think Ronnie B new this deep down and his criticism of this sketch was very much sour grapes when he should have been applauding their brilliance.

These days most younger comedians fall over themselves to suck up to veteran performers or "national treasures" as they are known. Too much deference. This,on the other hand, is vicious and brilliant. The reason that it upset Barker was that it was absolutely spot on.

The perfect parody, brilliantly written, nicely performed. I have some affection for The Two Ronnies, but for every classic sketch like "fork handles" or Mastermind there was an awful lot of tittering innuendo that now looks very dated. This sketch skewers that wonderfully.
