  • In case ya'll know this is a cover of Tom Scott's LA Express Band song that was once done originally for Tom Scott and the L.A. Express. Check it out through my channel. Can't get enough of this flammin' big band rendition coming from Lin's short-lived big band.

  • One of the best ensemble teachers at Berklee! Very passionate and caring, great player, and lots of anecdotes! Miss him already.

And BTW, this tune sounds great! so much power!

  • Seriously one of my favorite lead players of all time. He was a hell of a player. If you don't like the higher, faster, louder genre ...ok. But you have to acknowledge his musicianship. He played lead on arguably the most respected and popular albums for both Buddy Rich (Live in London - now Time Being) and Maynard Ferguson (Live at Jimmy's). Gotta love people who put their all into music, and he's clearly doing that when he plays ... and in my opinion and many other's, doing it very well.

  • What tune is this and what band ?

  • @MrUbag Didn't you read the description buddy? It's L.A. Expression by the Lin Biviano Big Band

  • :-)

  • It's kinda weird, sad and tragically funny. By the way, yes, I HAVE played with Lin, in the Count Basie section.

  • Lin is fabulous. I had the pleasure of playing with him consistently in the late 80's and he was the most musical, exciting lead trumpet player I ever performed with. Don't hate - who cares if he missed notesocassionally or went flat from time to time , he made music and was totally in the moment.

  • not pleasing, clean or musical in the upper register.

  • During my 4 yrs at Berklee, I found Lin to be a true inspiration as well as a great teacher and friend! Don Noe.

  • leo, sorry, i was asking about the vid where he's a lot younger. i believe it was the time when he was either with bill chase, or playing "something" (the version w/ buddy rich).

    3:34

and also which vid is the one where he's soloing with count basie at 2:35

  • The Basie video is available on DVD, "Count Basie Big Band '77", from the Norman Granz Jazz in Montreux series.

The interview clips are from a private video made in a hotel room somewhere; Lin played the intro to Something, talked a little about embouchure and then played a double C.

  • anywhere i can get the private video in the hotel room?

is it up on youtube or do i have to find it elsewhere? or if possible, can someone post it up on youtube?

  • question:

where can you find the vid that shows up at the end of this video? the one where lin biviano is doing an interview i believe.

  • It's from a short documentary called Screamers Enterprise. It's on youtube.

  • i remember seeing lin on so many great nights at ronnie scotts club with buddys band.he would light up the band with his playing.two things a big band MUST have are a great drummer and an on fire lead trumpet .

  • hey ben, u should show lin the video where he's using the tambourine during buddy's solo.

i would love to learn from lin one day

  • Cry baby

  • Yea Lin!

  • People like you are the way you are cause you suck as musicians and have to try to bring everyone down to your level of suckiness.

  • after listening again...still sucks

  • i thought it was brilliant.

i think biviano was like 28 when he played this song. pretty amazing if u ask me.

dont comment on here if u hate it.

  • NICE!

  • Very nice! Lin is an animal and I love that tune. Gotta love the crack tambourine @ :39

  • Sweet!
