I always thought the bass intro was slap, and that's always how I played it, but I've seen a lot of covers were they use a pick. Which is one is correct?
@othaka666 It's a pick. You can check out old Tool videos to see for sure. I used to slap it as well... no idea why it took me so long to hear it correctly.
My band plays this song too. This video helped me a lot. I changed the pick pattern a lil on the course caus my bass is old and it was the only way I could get a clean sound with the cord but as far as the mutes the only string I mute is the 2nd string(standard tuning would be the higher d string)
Hey I think your videos are great! Unfortunately only 1000 of those Rickenbacker's were made. :( Do you know of any Rickenbacker's that sound the same or most similar to the Chris Squire editions? Thanks!
@JBoucks Buy what's known as the toaster pickup (you can see why it's called that cause it looks like the top of a toaster, [neck pick up]. Install them on your rick. It's what they used to come with in the early to mid 70's I belive.

ok so im trying to learn this song and ive watched your video like 50 times now, and i still cant get the mutes timed out right. what can i do to help with that?
@m2804 thanks man. I did see his version. He is a very talented player for sure. However, this is the same bass that Paul actually used on the album and this is how he played the song, note for note, with a pick etc. :)
It may not be the best cover, but it's the most accurate cover in my opinion. :)
@TOOLbassplayer I think this IS best cover. However, I prefer 7sloths playstyle (I have similar one). Your picking method is very advanced and the sound you make... many would be envious on you.
@m2804 dude, not sure what you're talking about :P this has got to be the best cover of the song. How can anything better than an exact replica of the original? :P
@welanm3891 mmm,i can answer, somebody's interpretation can be better, because i think if somebody can make original song sound better(don't judge my opinion,i understand that i can be wrong) it's example of his/her skill or knowledge, anyway, song is awesome and this cover is great, but people may prefer different things you know =) it's just me who likes better 7sloth's cover, cuz it's played a bit different,i do like original, but i also like when people left something from themselves ;)
@welanm3891 you know,it's like 1-st place,no doubt, but not grandprix, hope you can understand me,not meant in bad way...bad example may be,but though, when somebody makes a paper plane,it looks nice, but if you paint it,it looks better, isn't it?=) i once took first place in talent show at school,we played two songs,i was happy, but my friend was not,he wanted grandprix...sorry for this amount of text XD
@m2804 lol I hear what you're saying man, totally understand. I guess it's just a matter of opinion and what you're looking for. I like how the original is but, it is always nice to see a song with someone else's flare to it.
@exit119bass The Chris Squire limited does not have the Ric O Sound stereo option. It is just a single jack. There is not distortion here. This is how the bass sounds plugged in. The Chris Squire is known to have the meanest sound of the Rick lineup! :) Very hot pickup!

i think will all could thank paul d'amour for the great bass playing he did on the rickenbacker bass in the early years of tool and brad great job and this is how the song is played.

that rickenbackers beauty can only be matched by that gorgeous tone thats coming out of it 10/5 you really knocked the shit out of that sing keep up the good work
can you please tell me what kind of bass amp to get to get for my fender aerodyne bass, i want to sound as close as justin chancellor as i can just not a bass that is 2 expensive
Im assuming the Horseshoe pickup got in the way of your picking technique? Does it actually do anything tone wise to the RIC, I might slap one on my 75 4001 Jetglo whenever I can afford to.
I think it would sound cooler with only down strokes on the chorus part thing before Maynard sings, "Why can't we not be sober." That's just my humble opinion though.
@TOOLbassplayer This is a chris squire signature? looks liek a different bridge and bridge pickup, are they? what is different about it from a regular ric
its really not soo hard (as opposed to most Tool songs.) for me its just hard to not thrash around too much and mess up. i guess i get WAY to into it :)
man, i wish i could've gotten a Chris Squire limited edition while they were being made! i already had my 2 4003's, which i still have and will probably be buried with them! ;) i just love their sound! and i really like how the one in this vid growls, especially when the guy hits that tuned down E string!! if that don't put lead in your pencil, i don't know what does!!

oh yeah and for the record I acquired my first wal in 1995. It was a Walnut Wal Mk1 so how is it that I copied Justin when I had it before he did? He switched to Wal in 1996 during the recording of Aenima. He didn't even order his model until 1997. Pete told me that personally. You probably don't even know who Pete is, do you?
If i could thumbs up your comments, I would. :D thats a very unique bass before, never seen one like it. i love it. great cover too, sounds amazing! 5/5

oh yeah and for the record I acquired my first wal in 1995. It was a Walnut Wal Mk1 so how is it that I copied Justin when I had it before he did? He switched to Wal in 1996 during the recording of Aenima. He didn't even order his model until 1997. Pete told me that personally. You probably don't even know who Pete is, do you?
Anyways, can I be your friend or what?

@TOOLbassplayer Did Tool have a bass player before Justin? I see a guy that looks different than him on a live video of this song
