Do you have any UPS system in that system dude? i didnt spot one in ya vid. You panned to the bottom of the rack and something was there. But couldnt quite make out what it was!??
@superserverdude You'll prob find it dosnt use all that much id say a good eco friendly server (and lets face it most in the last 5 or so years are) use around 230 240wats for each PSU (and they look like old desktops, so they would use less) and the routers and switches hardly use anything. And although this looks power hungry stuff its compiled of alot of switches and routers. He only has 2 or 3 servers from what i can see in that rack. So i think i would say its running at around 600wats;-)
@HavocGunStar I download ALOT of things for people and give them access to log into the server and queue downloads for themselves. I then transfer it to either an external harddrive and ship it or deliver the infomation in person. Alot of my clients dont know how to do it themselves or dont want to learn and want someone to do it for them. Thats where 90% of the BW goes.
@HavocGunStar This video is kinda old now, alot has changed with this. More servers, and I decommissioned some gear on the top of the rack.. Im getting about 60Mbps down now with 8Mbps up.
That's an awful lot of crap to, in the end, support the same up/down link speeds my crap Linksys cable modem, and Alix/PFsense router supplies, while consuming 20 watts, and 5 watts respectively.
@HavocGunStar I dont think your linksys can load balance 10+wan connections...(even tho im only using 3) with over 25k concurrent bit torrent connections at once. Along with VPN, and Web connections at the same time.
I love the Allied Telecom equipment! My first 10Base-T hub was an AT, and I still have that thing laying around here somewhere. Those things were bullet proof!

wow look at the old serial connections from the routers to the switches really retro :D

Ive also moved the rack out of that closet and into an office.
Also added another file-server with 10TB of storage.

257watts, for those wondering how much power it takes.
damageinc23 7 months ago
@damageinc23 I should add......... thats 257watts on idle. Right after boot. When the drives are working, it does shoot up to about 400w.

what are you hosting on it dude or what tasks is it running?

what dose the dell computer do
bradmottram 10 months ago
@bradmottram It runs a linux server that does load balancing and firewalls the network. Currently at 150Mbps down and 18Mbps up. 6 Wan connections.

What sorts of things do you host? (Non-brand specific or whatever, just wondering generality)

Well, if you're getting 48/6 x10 then yeah, now that makes sense.
You could do that with 10x alix boards, but you'd probably be pushing $2.5k just for initial setup. (Plus modems)

@damageinc23 And true on the power... But it does not take much... I still turn a substantial profit to pay the power bill..

The only thing about where u put it, was in ur closet. Be careful lol, fire may happen, and dust will accumulate easily.

other peoples stuff are so much better than my stuff, with the exception of the dell optiplex lol, why does that have 3 network cards?

Its a load balancing server. It takes multiple internet connections and combines them into 1 huge one!

Btw, this setup has 48Mbps down and 6Mbps up.
