@chaldochamp3 I believe that term originated from the titles won in the 1970s by the Steelers, Pirates, and Panthers. In '79 the Steelers and Pirates both won championships. Much like in 2009 the Steelers and Penguins did, and so the term was used again.

i had to work the day this happened and i was seeing images of this in my head: you know, seeing the Penguins win, seeing the Red Wings win and i was on the phone with a friend of mine and i was flipping back and forth between this and wrestling and i did have the radio on. the Steelers win the Super Bowl and the Penguins win the Stanley Cup in the same year. well Chicago is gunna be quite stacked next year with Kane, Toews, Hossa, Keith, Campbell. All all-star players although Hossa is out till December and Kane might be suspended for a couple games. Just wait till 2011 when they'll have 13 million cap space to sign Toews, Kane, and Keith plus 3 more NHL ready players. Hossa's signing might have prevented them from a cup.

That's great what the Wings have accomplished, everyone knows about it too. It doesn't mean that Pens fans aren't or shouldn't be excited about winning the cup. I wish cocky Wings fans would quit acting like the Pens almost moved b/c of lack of fan support. It had nothing at all to do with the fans. We had 3 or 4 years of poor attendance since the late 80's. There are teams who have had attendance issues for much longer than that (Islanders, Hawks, Hurricanes to name a few) that haven't left.
The near move was a political thing. The Igloo was built in '62 and Mario made it a priority to get a new arena as soon as he was made owner in '99. The city jacked him around until '07 about getting an arena built. He used a possible move as a bargaining chip, and it worked.

Malkin, Crosby, and Staal are all playing for below market value. Malkin turned down a 12 mill/year contract with KHL to stay with the Pens for 8.5 mill/year. I respect what the Wings have been able to do in the past, and it is certainly a good blueprint for other owners and gm's to follow, like the Pens have started to.

Detroit had more powerplays than pittsburgh. Pittsburgh penety killing is alot bettter than detroit, at that time. Pittsburgh had some bad breaks also, like Zetterberg covering the puck in the goal line with his hand/body. Not even a 2 min power play was called for such an illegal move on the goal line.

well Chicago is gunna be quite stacked next year with Kane, Toews, Hossa, Keith, Campbell. All all-star players although Hossa is out till December and Kane might be suspended for a couple games. Just wait till 2011 when they'll have 13 million cap space to sign Toews, Kane, and Keith plus 3 more NHL ready players. Hossa's signing might have prevented them from a cup.

That's great what the Wings have accomplished, everyone knows about it too. It doesn't mean that Pens fans aren't or shouldn't be excited about winning the cup. I wish cocky Wings fans would quit acting like the Pens almost moved b/c of lack of fan support. It had nothing at all to do with the fans. We had 3 or 4 years of poor attendance since the late 80's. There are teams who have had attendance issues for much longer than that (Islanders, Hawks, Hurricanes to name a few) that haven't left.

Malkin, Crosby, and Staal are all playing for below market value. Malkin turned down a 12 mill/year contract with KHL to stay with the Pens for 8.5 mill/year. Guerin, Fedetanko and Adams all took significant pay cuts to stay with the Pens this coming season. This is the start of a great organization. I respect what the Wings have been able to do in the past, and it is certainly a good blueprint for other owners and gm's to follow, like the Pens have started to.

Detroit had more powerplays than pittsburgh. Pittsburgh penety killing is alot bettter than detroit, at that time. Pittsburgh had some bad breaks also, like Zetterberg covering the puck in the goal line with his hand/body. Not even a 2 min power play was called for such an illegal move on the goal line.

Last year.. Pittsburgh waited 5-10minutes as Detroit celebrated. This year.. Detroit left pretty fast to me. As for Crosby, I dont blame him, I wouldn't want to shake that pos hossas hand either. At first I thought it was Draper who had no class, but the more I read, I find that the majority of Detroit fans have none either. Go cry a river, and good luck trying to get back...

I love the fact that the penguins beat detroit, and not some 3rd rate team. There is no disputing that pittsburgh is the best team out there. To be the best, you gotta beat the best. If they played any other team, the victory wouldn't have been soo sweet. Don't take this the wrong way, I'm giving detroit their respect as a presence. Most people out there want some scrub team to play their own in the final or wish for injuries. You can tell a mature fan, when they wanna play the best
