I'm a professional vocalist and just bought the Sennheiser e935 today. I spent at least 20 minutes at Guitar Center trying different mics out in their audio room. I really loved the full sound and presence and clarity it gives. The audio pro there even commented on the difference in the way I expressed myself on it verses the other mics. I think it will be great on gigs. Next step up will be the Neumann KMS 105 - but thats $700 lol
the shure sm58 is the biggest piece of crap on the market. check out Audio Technica or Heil sound. and the 58 came out in the 80's. dude do your research before you claim to be an authority on this gear!
@PageIdol69 Calm the fuck down asshat, I never said I was an authority or it was the best around I said it is "considered" one of the best all around mics available and is also "considered" an industry standard... My opinion has nothing to do with what is "considered" by and large by musicians the world over. And you should do your research too, it has been around for longer than the "80's". It has been produced since 1966! Look it up. That IS research!!!
The 58 is still good workhorse mic. The newer Beta 58 I find better for vocals, at least mine. Personally I have become a fan of large diaphragm condenser condenors for vocals. Pretty hard to use those for karaoke though. But a damn good one is the Rode NT2-A featuring switchable polar patterns, and now comes with a shock mount, pop filter, and high quality cable all for under 400 bucks.
ok hope you answer this asap why? the past saturday I filmed a party unfortunately my onbord camera's mic could't handle the loud speakers since it was an small place, I have another party for saturday an I need a better mic to handle the big noise of those big speakers I went to sam ask which is a music store and they recommended the e935 my question is would you recommend it for loud recording situation ? I also would like to buy a preamp box would it help to reduce the mic's noise? pls help
@Vidmary777 I tested the 58a and the e935 in-store at guitar center for about an hour. Both mics were very similar sounding, but the Sennheiser was noticeably hotter/louder, and with very little feedback - which is handy in a rock band. I've sung with Shure 58's for a long time, and really like the brand - I use 57's for my guitar amp - but when it came to deciding between the beta and the e935, I went with the latter. I've been VERY happy

@Chicago10281 I prefer Sennheiser but don't get me wrong, I love the Shure... I have used the other brands you mention but have a preference to the Sennheiser...
I've been doing sound indoor in clubs and once outdoor, and I've learned that sennheisers are much brighter than shure, where I rather use shure indoors and sennheiser outdoors. But both are great microphone , is up to the situation either sm , beta or 8 or 9 series, but if you are recording the sound live, i'd rather to use the sennheisers, and that goes for kick, guitar and overheads. But all depend of the situation. Great video....
Theres the difference right there. feedback on SM 58 is terrible, sennheiser has a super cardioid and has peripheral noise and feedback reduction, so the the old reliable 58 is a great mic but some mics like the Sennheiiser are just beautiful.
I wholeheartedly agree, I've been using both now for almost a year and am in love with Sennheiser mics. A while after this video I was considering the high-end Shure wireless mic system, I ended up buying the Sennheiser G3 EW500-965 wireless mic system and OMG!! This is the best mic I have ever laid my hands on and sang into!!
Thanks for the comment on my site regarding the mics. The informal word is "pops" as in "pop filter" as you said but the actual technical word is "plosive" or "plosives". Excerpt from the "Free Online Dictionary"... Of, relating to, or being a speech sound produced by complete closure of the oral passage and subsequent release accompanied by a burst of air, as in the sound (p) in pit or (d) in dog. n.

The SM57 was released in 1965 and the SM58 was released in 1966. Before that they were Shure Unidyne Mics. Nice review.

I am really considering the e935, but how do you think it'll do against Shure's Beta 58a wich is a couple of bucks cheaper too. Nice vid man.

Which mic do you think is better? The Shure or The Sennheiser? Also, have you ever used Samson & Neumann?

@RudeDog66 People shouldn't slam mics down on the floor like that as that will damage the mike itself! They should take care of it!

well done. th I'm considering getting a new mic and these are the 2 I'm thinking about. Thanks for the comparison.

Actually I think that the e935 just uses cardioid and not a super cardioid .
And the e 945 uses a super cardioid . Is there any significant difference between the e 945 and the e935 other than that?
Is it like a sm 58 and a beta 58?

Did you have different processing on the 2 mics, or does it really reject feedback that well vs the SM58?
