  • What the hell is sting looking up there at 0:15 ??

  • @DrFender23 god is asking for a song

  • One of my favorites too!

  • Is that a Steinberger bass he's playing? Anyone? Thanks

  • @SomethingReal1119 - not sure if someone already answered but yes, that's a Steinberger.

  • @nitedrive thanks! ;0)

  • Who's the freaking idiot who disliked this?

  • The opening of this song makes me think of the 1980's old theme "The People's Court."

  • The Police are one of my all-time favorite bands but damn those horns sound cheesy and Sting looks like he's playing a broom! Steinbergers are f-ugly to the max.

  • @morenosmooth Agree completely. they don't need a horn section. if you must, get better players

  • The Police was the only group where I had crushes on every single band member in the group (all three.) I still have a thing for Stewart Copeland. (It should be law that he can only wear tiny shorts all the time.)

  • ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

    what a performance :-)))))))))))))))))

  • Edge to the the right of the stage (watching Andy Summers) and Adam Clayton to the left of the stage watching Sting -U2 were the young apprentices that day...

  • Sting and Geddy Lee!! AWESOME MUSICIANS AND SINGERS

  • Holy shit, never seen ANY of this show before, what a find!

  • diggin the steinberger

  • The Police truly create an organic sound. No other band can create refreshing images and form positive idea's in one's imagination like they can.

  • My younger sister, who is a huge Police fan, brought over a EBYT DVD for me to watch. The band members giving bits of how a song is put together in Montserrat was great. I just wish it was a bit longer, it was only a half hour?

Just simply amazing performers, and they still look fit and inspiring to this day.

Funny how I was watching a George Lucas biography, he went through alot of crap, and watched the Police video and you appreciate the result more, with the pressure and everything.

  • Oh no the horn section!!!! What were they thinking? Awful! The song was enough by itself - it's why the 80's rocked.

  • I was in 4th grade...

  • I love this band in the studio, but they are beyond awful live, well at least Sting is. He wants everything to sound jazzy or new wave. These classic songs just sound like impromptu jam sessions instead of tight, post punk genius. If I were Stewart I would kicked his ass nightly

  • at 2:20 I think I saw " The Edge" from U2 in the audience...

  • Sting makes it look soooo easy to play bass and sing the vocals!! I have a hard enough time just playing the bassline!!! They were a bad group man!!!!!!

  • it's hard to believe that this group folded when they were at the very top.

  • the headless bass! one think i wasn't sad about going out of style. id still rock one in the name of police wait nevermind not in these times lol.

  • This is my favorite Police song from my favorite Police record. Thank you so much for posting!

  • Summers grosso total

  • This was during the Police's coke heyday.

  • I have nothing against horns when it works, but no to the horns on this one! I still love it this song

  • Comment removed

  • I'm sorry but that bass is gay

  • Love this song but, like all else, I feel the horns are really out of place here

  • 1982; best year.

  • thay fucked that up

  • the horns ruin this for me

  • @jfleminator yeah, I have to gree with you, the inclusion of the horns was a mistake here. The tempos too fast, the horns aren't playing in unison, and what notes they are playing seem to not have been part of a prepared arrangement.

Horns do NOT have to be used in every song. ONLY where they contribute in a meaningful way should any instrument be included.

  • yeah, its kindof crazy because this same concert has my favorite live version of bring on the night, but then they came out with this shit. i think the horns go well with songs like hungry for you, demolition man, and one world but not this song at all.

  • steinberger headless bass

  • this rocks! i just posted a tutorial on how to play the bassline to this classic song by the police

  • @MileSeventySeven . Can you do a guitar lesson on "When the World is Running Down..." by The Police. If you can't, that's okay.

  • @thepolice281 I could give u the chords for the song

  • Fucking awesome! Greatest band ever. Stewart is god like.

  • great live version!

i love how andy's jumping at the end of his solo and i love this move sting's doing with his hands (3:07)! : )

  • WTF Sting???? You guys are my Gods, and you add horns to this concert????? The 1980-81 shows were the BEST Police concerts EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @bds1167

yeah...it did sounded out of place.

  • Anyone notice how the bass drum mic drops out of the mix about halfway through the song and then comes back after 25-30 seconds?

  • I'll pass on the horns. had to be stings idea

  • I agree....

  • faggots huh? Where the hell that come from?

  • you sad old fool

  • Awesome.

  • this era of the police is bad cause of the horn sections and back up singers. ruined them live.

  • I know the POLICE have massive hits...BUT THIS IS MY FAV!!!

  • I love this song! I think that the horns "water it down" in this version. But I still love the progressions that this song takes you through.

  • I alway thought it was tami fay show HA HA. 25 yrs later its cleared up.

  • Sting really worked it back then.

  • I could have went to this show when the Go-Go's opened for the BEST BAND EVER, but I didn't go........... At least I saw my all-time hero, Sting and the Dudes in '83 at JFK Stadium in Philly...........

  • I saw the show when the Go Go's opened for them at the Spectrum. It freakin' ruled.

The '83 show was awesome too, but that stadium was so huuuuge.

  • I saw them at JFK Stadium in Philly in '83.... It was 100 degrees in the middle of the day...... Unfuckingbelievably hot!!!!! I still would not have missed that show for anything!!!!!

  • The T.A.M.I. Show is a 1964 concert film, released by American International Pictures. It includes performances by numerous popular rock and roll and R&B musicians from the United States and England. is particularly well known for James Brown's performance, which features his legendary dance moves and remarkable energy. The acronym "T.A.M.I." was used inconsistently in the show's publicity to mean both Teenage Awards Music International and Teen Age Music International. (a little clarity)

  • the police live at gateshead the ghost and the machine tour. i had to get this dvd from korea on ebay

  • You big man out there, that was an Amaaaaazing intro!, I thought It will be rusty, but Sting and his guys never lost his flavour!

  • My BAND since 1981 at age 13... These guys STILL affect my life in a positive way. I picked up the bass because of Sting... pure gods!!

  • No one will ever hit it like the Police hit...ever.

  • I think the latest version live in Rio was better...

  • it was cool because it changed from Voices Inside My Head and they all changed tempo halfway through

  • And why do they suck live? I think they are good?

  • The best performance of this Song Live. Intro

is good. The Police were 3 ambitious gifted musicians that ruled!!!

  • that johnnyzig guy is some ass clown, do u know anything about music? ur head and bass are probably up ur ass. are u in a flock of cockbird cover band

  • horns bad idea fuck around too much and not needed

  • This was my first gig ever- absolutely superb. Lords of the New Church, Gang of Four, The Beat, U2, The Police.........sheer class.

  • Anyone know the setlist for this show? I've seen the other songs from this show, but not this one.

  • Setlist:

Voices Inside My Head (Intro),Message In A Bottle,Every Little Thing She Does ,Walking On The Moon,Spirits In The Material World,Hungry For You,When The World Is Running Down,The Bed's Too Big,De Do Do Do,Demolition Man,Shadows In The Rain,Driven To Tears,Bring On The Night,One World,Invisible Sun,Roxanne,Don't Stand So Close To Me,Can't Stand Losing You,So Lonely

  • Sorry , could you upload "hungry for you" from this conzert , please ? The other version you can find at youtube is shit and there is only the sax solo of this song and i want to hear it completly again :) thank you

  • @skins555 I've got this concert, :) maybe Emule can help you ;) greets!!!

The Police - Live 82 Ghost In The Machine

  • first comment...

    who cares

ive never seen bass like that before.. only guitars. arent they called stiensomethins...

  • Thats what kind of bass it is....steinberger. Horrible 80's bass. They fit nicely on stage with a KEYtar

  • Great basses actually knobhead!

  • What do you play? I have two fender Jazz and a Status ( headless), but cant say a flock of seagulls cover band ever ,ever crossed my mind. The Status sounds and looks great.. . .well i think it does!

  • I have two ESP B-405's(my favorites), a Tobias "killer B", and a Dearmond Pilot Pro 5. all 5 strings...well and a cheap acoustic electric 4 string. the most i can tell you about that is it has a G on the headstock. I am a metal head at heart but im not bad at slappin and poppin out some funk too. Years ago i actually learned flock of seagulls "space age love song" on guitar but dont tell anyone! I like the berger body but i need a head! To each his own i guess. Do they still make those basses?

  • Watch "level 42 mark king bass solo" on youtube to see a Status in action , its a great vid for any bass player!

  • I meant i like the body of the steinberger basses with a body! not like the pickups strapped to a neck like sting has in this video.

Ive seen Kim Deal play one in person..in the late 80's early 90's and the guy who now plays bass for pink floyd...(i dont know his name...(NOT roger waters)) and now from this video...sting. Im sure there is a few more famous people that have played them but those are all i know. How do you tune those things? do you need a wrench?

  • No wrench , tuners built into bridge ,Guy Pratt was the pink floyd man, lots of people still ask me if the Status is a real bass, and I could have sold it ten times over on the sound alone, lowest action of any bass i`ve ever played ,fantastic slapper and can impersonate just about any bass! I would love a Tobias , great basses, butifully made.

  • They tune down the back end.
