yea, live in new jersey and you will see how great of a governor he is. despite being a republican, no tax rates have been decreased. He also hacked away at school funding, leading to less seat in our medical, densitry, and veterniarian school UDMJ, and less scholarships across the board in other public colleges. I mean, you are only effecting the education of our future, that does not matter at all. He says great things, but does others. Actions speak louder than words my friends.
@Vox91 and what "corporate interests" would those be? You have no fucking idea what you're talking about. If you did, your piddle-shit comment would have been longer than that, and you would have educated us.
Wow...I agree, he is the real deal. Very intelligent and articulate, you can just tell that he means exactly what he is saying...and he knows what he's talking about...did he give this informed plan without a teleprompter? Congratulations New Jersey, you are very fortunate to have such a dedicated and truthful public servant on YOUR side for a change. He's one in a million.
Google this political hack from the Bush/Cheney train wreck. A thug prosecutor sent to end corruption but only in Democratic districts. Watch as he makes the poor suffer and as he kisses the butts of the haves and have-mores. He's just another devisive hate-monger, villifieing the poora and the public servent, while treating his rich cronies to fat contracts and tax breaks.
@shatwood my goodness shatwood... failed? See who's running DC, you assclown! Surely you aren't that blinded by your masochistic desires to be anally ravaged by Corporate Thugs like Christie.
@Hammerlix ...Why don't you wait and see what this man does before you judge him? You talk about divisive? Look up the word and then listen to how this current President talks about anyone who disagrees with him. Thug? Look that up too. Hate mongering....you sure have your party's talking points down, eh? There will and SHOULD ALWAYS BE public aid for those who 'truly' deserve it and need it; but welfare needs to be yanked away from those who are simply, well...lazy people.
I do not live in NJ, but Chris Christie appears to be doing an amazing job as Governor. He is standing up to the large unions who have demonized anyone who would suggest the burden they've placed on the taxpayers is excessive. The NJEA has an opportunity to appear sympathetic with the plight of the taxpayers and "be in this together" Instead they tell the citizens to "suck it up" and don't ask them to sacrifice. I hope they realize they do this at their own peril.
Nj is my state and although I am not repub or dem....give him a chance. the legislature and the last 3 govs for 20 years got us into this hole and now tough choices will be made, unfortuantely for teachers, yet illegals here get free healthcare and welfare.....ha.
Christie rocks. If we all acted upon his words, there would not be a deficit. LIVE WITHIN YOUR MEANS...spend less--what is wrong with anything he said?
I agree to an extent that people will likely move out of state if we simply raise taxes, leaving us with less taxpayers and less revenue. But how many people are going to move out of state if our public school systems are seriously crippled? I would wager to say a lot. So now we will have less people in the state, but still paying the same taxes. Seems to be like that will seriously decrease state revenue. Now NJ public school kids have a significantly decreased chance at getting into college.
He cut taxes from businesses in NJ. Why? Because the private industry is already suffering enough...in case you haven't noticed, the overburdening taxes on businesses in NJ have caused over 110,000 people to lose their jobs last year.
Get with the times, drinking the kool-aid and use your brain for once.
@xxigodzixx He cut taxes for industries that don't need the cut nor should they get it. The problem here is that for some reason people think that the way to fix problems is to raise taxes while cutting budgets. This has been going on for decades and its about time to find a new way to handle this, because this bs Christie is doing now is the same approach that leads our economy on a roller coaster. Republicans are all the same
What? He's cutting taxes and cutting the budget, I don't see how that's going to ruin anything. Besides that, the Millionaires tax was implemented by Corzine and it ran out (only lasted a year), and Christie didn't renew it, because it would go against his plan to lower taxes and it did absolutely nothing for the state.
@xxigodzixx He's cutting taxes for the rich, like a generic Republican always does, while cutting the budget for the poor and struggling companies and public sector. Necessities' budgets are getting cut because we "need money...we're in a CRISIS!!!!!!!!111!!!!1!!!111!!!!!!1!!!" but we can afford to give money TO the rich.
Do some research again. If you are talking about the Millionaires Tax....then here is some info.
2009 Corzine and the legislature implemented the millionaires tax. December 31st 2009, it expired as planned....so when did Christie take power?
So...um....Yeah. Christie wasn't even IN OFFICE WHEN THE TAX EXPIRED. It was a deliberate political play on the new guy. Let everyone think he lowered taxes for the rich when the tax expired BEFORE HE EVEN TOOK POWER.
@vids721 who's giving money to the rich here? at most he is LOWERING the INCREASE in taxes for the rich. and why is it okay that the "rich" pay for 90% of NJ's budget?
Do people still not realize the rich supply jobs to the middle class and poor? If you cut taxes on the rich and business, it puts more money back into the economy. It is especially crucial to small business.
@bobmatica You are exactly right!!! I have a small business with 14 employees. I have never missed a single payroll or payroll taxes. There have been many times when I did not pay myself to make sure I kept everyone employed. However according to the Federal Government I'm not taxed enough and therefore I need to pay my fair share (I pay about $250K in taxes each year). According to my CPA I will have to let 2 employees go to make sure I have enough to pay for the tax increases coming.
Remarkable! And unlike any political speech I've seen in North America for a few years. And, no teleprompters either. A real Speaker,... fancy that!
Hmmm. This fellow may be somebody to watch over the next little while. And so will his enemies bear watching, as I suspect someone this brave will have a few of them.
Amen Christie! We need more people like you in public service. I wonder how many hypocrits are clapping in front of the camera, will be undermining him when the cameras are off???
I think New Jersey has a chance to be what it once was, a real powerhouse in the United States! All you have to do to see the other side of the coin is to look at California, once the 5th largest economy in the world, now it's the 7th and going down.
I'll be one in favor is cuts, because we New Jersey residents have to learn, not everything in life should be handed to you. Earn it. Pay for it yourself. Work hard for it yourself. Just give us no higher taxes, and bring back as many as you can in job loss, and no more expansion of big government, and cut deadbeat programs that are just draining us dry and forcing our wealthiest away. I truly think Christie will bring us back. I'm very hopeful after hearing his speech. God bless NJ.
When they see that New Jersey is on a more solid foundation fiscally, it'll become apparent to businesses to come back to NJ and provide jobs and revenues as well. Bravo Christie!! This won't be easy but the direction is correct. The people of NJ are fortunate to have a "leader" at the helm like you. Good luck in the future. We're all counting on you to follow through and show us here in California what discipline and tough choices can do to raise our standard of living once again.
WOW! This is what we in California truly needed. A Governor willing to make tough choices and tough cuts to save the state from fiscal embarrassment. What this "Can-Do" Governor can do will be amazing if he can get the people who care to buy in for a year or two.
Wish he would run for President.. he is our George Washington!! Meanwhile we have again poor choices running for President!
