Ah, I remember the days my older brother would play the soundtrack while we drive. My only reply to Fruma Sarah. LADY YOUR DEAD. YOU DON"T NEED THE FUCKING PEARLS!
Oh my God, so did I (and that was back in the '70's)!! I wanted to play Fruma Sarah, but they didn't think I looked "scary" enough (Lol!!). I choreographed all the dance numbers in the production.
@GamingIlluminated same here! I was laughing so hard. My high school is doing this play and this scene is fantastic. We have Fruma-Sarah lowered in on a swing. It's awesome.
ok i did not grow up with this movie but i will say it was great because of the creativity and i am also jewish but how they portrayed the dead scares the crap out of me and this scene was really screwed up
My favorite part of the whole movie! Completely brilliants on his part, a natural spinner of tales. He was so clever to come up with all that on the spot AND convince his wife. :D Once again, brilliant.
I was 4 when I saw this in the theaters...scared me so bad couldn't even listen to the song on the record for a LONG time..that bitch loves them pearls
Not to belittle the role, but in this particular musical Fruma Sarah sounds a lot like English actress Tracy Ullman, aka the woman whose show helped launch "The Simpsons" in the late 1980s.
The original play,in Yiddish "Tevya derr milchdiker" was done inEurope late 1930s.The theme is the same, although some characters and plots differ.Very little dancing and singing....a very, very sad ending. This musical is refreshingly fantastic. The songs are timeless. I love it all.
i apologise in advance for asking such a silly question, but could someone please explain what is meant by the gesture when they put their hand to their mouth, and how it came about?
I like how at 0:37 Tevye is all dramatic and Golde is just looking at him like "God you drama queen." I think this is the best part of the entire musical. :D
I love this part of the film and the line "Grandmother Tzeitel? How did she look? Well, for a woman who is dead 30 years, she looked very good." OMG! That cracks me up everytime. I would love to be able to use that line sometime!
My senior year we did Fiddler, and I knew I wouldn't get a major role because I wasn't in choir. I figured I'd try out for Fruma Sarah, because, in my opinion, it is one of the most interesting roles for the couple of minutes it is on stage, and is not something for which people would likely try out. Not only did I get the part, I successfully scared some little kids (according to my former teacher). Awesome. I don't have many positive high school memories, but this sure was one!
5:03-5:26 ...when Fruma Sara slides forward on the line "I'll come to her by night..." I first watched this at age 7 or so, from the back of my parent's crummy old Station Wagon, at the Drive In.
Scariest damn thing I'd ever seen. I don't think I slept well for a month. Every night, Fruma Sara would glide through my window and hover over me until my parents would come in and turn on the lights.
If it was Halloween, and someone was doing a haunted house, the part when fruma sarah comes out from her grave would be perfect to scare off the little kids
@GHyoyobub123 I was just HOPING someone would say that! XDD Honestly, I thought '....Am I the only one who noticed how freaky she is over her pearls?' XDD
I love the sheer fact that he's just making it up off the top of his head at first, and the look at the end is priceless! :D My favorite part of the film!
This was my favorite musical number during Summer Theatre '10! I was the Rabbi and Makala if you are reading this...FACE!!! YOU WERE AN AWESOME Fruma Sharh!
@MakiaLink actually please be positive because your right. Sha means "be quiet" and somtimes people in israel say that to people that are nurves to culm them down.
There is a final chorus to the song. It appears on the soundtrack but in no video tapes or DVDs of the movie. Yet when I saw it on a big screen in an auditorium somewhere I would swear that they did have it in that copy, Is it me, or has that last chorus been cut from modern (80s to present) releases of the movie?
