  • Tolkyy His appearance is that of a Baul (Wandering bard of Bengal) - I think he is singing a Bengali Bhatiali Song (Boatman's song) - Excuse me if I am wrong!!

  • Only Ritwik Ghatak can think of this and create this.

    ONLY RITWIK GHATAK.

    No one else.

    ONLY RITWIK GHATAK.

    5 Stars.

    :)

    Tito Dutta.

  • Name of the singer : Nirmalendu Chowdhury ...

  • is he a sufi????

  • It touches the limit of human philosophy!!!

  • the singer looked like the happiest man on Earth. He never bought a Limousine.

  • @yusha33 superliked your comment...........happiness comes from within............

  • can some one please write the bengali of this song in enlish...

  • a rough english translation :

I came but at the wrong time,

to the river bank. oh heart!

Oh Boatman, I do not know,

    what you are called.

    who should I call then?

    who shall take me across?

    oh heart! for,Oh Boatman,

I do not know your name!

The motif of the boatman (majhi) is a recurring one in Bhatiyali (boatman's song) and represents like the "mon-er manush" of Baul a quest for the inner soul or union with god in the sufi/bhakti mystic tradition.

  • thanx... but what i really wanted was the the actual bangla words in using english alphabets... not the translation... cos i want to b able to sing with it

  • Soooooooo beautiful !!!!!!

  • beautiful song, one of my favourite films!thank you.............

  • Thank you Ritwik Da...

I know you are not dead

    Vamanan

  • You know what? Although I'm Gujarati, and don't understand much Bengali [whether Sylheti/Assamese/ Shudo - hope I spelt that right lol], I really appreciate Baul music. This video is beautiful. The way it has been shot is so nice. The music alone sends me into adrift. Even though I may not understand the language, I have a real appreciation for it musically. Nuff respect Tania Dey for posting this video. Dunyabad...

  • What about the song? Why does that make you cry?

I am thinking about a person long ago who used to sing that song.

He is dead, she said at length. He died when he was only seventeen. Isn't it a terrible thing to die so young as that?

    The Dead, by James Joyce.

  • Thanks a lot for uploading this one.

People are on the risk of forgetting all these gems thanks to the trash - constantly poured down on eyes and ears.

  • 1st heard this at a jibonmukhi convention.. unbelievable.. hunted the song down.. and then one day.. heard the " Akele Hum Nadiya Kinare " (even has a line - Majhi tora naam toh baata ) from raincoat.. hmm.. not a bad song, but.. I wish they'd stated the source.. So posted this to show the original.. Glad you liked it..

  • Now most film-makers and music composers are copy cat. Actually for quick money, too many mediocre people are in both the businesses, unlike old days. Strange that u have grown these interests at this age..:) now all ppl want is cheap entertainment... u can go thru my favorites...

  • I can't find the singer. Can you please help me?

    thanks

  • hey..dats my favourite film...Ritwik Ghatak ke janai..oshesh shrodda o Kritiggotha..bangladesh ke niye chobi bananor jonno...

  • spiritual and contained a pure positive moral for those people who have not saved enough for their next life, like me!
