I agree with the idea if you've never ridden before to start small. I had some dirt bike experience, but owning a street bike is a whole other experience. I was scared to ride the 250 and intimidated by everything else, until riding the 250 for a year, and upgraded to a VFR800. I had some experience on my bro's 600 before getting the 800 as well. Nothing wrong with progression. Really does depend on the person though.
Either way it makes no sense at all to argue wether they should ride a 600 or 1000. Any rider would know, the performance on either is almost identical. 600's will commonly do 170 mph, then a 1000 will top out 16 mph later. Riding in general is dangerous, to get into the sport, the person needs a brain in their head. A few less horsepower will not stop them from getting hurt if they're going to mess around. That basically sums it up in my view. 24.4 less cubic inches will not save a dumb person.
personal preference tho Skippy, and to all those peeps out there talkin about getting a big bike for your first bike seriously thats just silly. I rode a 250 around for 3 years before taking the leap to a 1000 and it is a HUGE leap believe me.. At least ride for 1 year in both wet and dry conditions on a 250cc but id reccomend more... And remember baby steps never try stuff you can't do yet ya gotta slowly work ya way up... Oh and if you lose your license stop riding or you will end up like me!
Wasn't really talkin about rideability, you are right, a 100 has a better torque curve, but what most people ask when they ask when they will outgrow a bike is "when will I outgrow how fast this thing goes", and in reality, you will never outgrow or outride a 600 on the streets, a 1000 may be easier to ride at slow speeds, but you never truly NEED it. plus, that torque curve on a new riders twitchy throttle will loop the bike if you so much as look at it wrong.
What I think is silly is you guys recommending what bike is best for all people, if someone has even the least bit of experience on a clutch, how the powerband and throttle reacts, and riding in general, they can handle anything from a PW50 dirtbike, to a Hayabusa. Experience is key, but so is common sense. If they're easy on the gas, and just have a little know how and maturity in their noggin, they'd be fine. You can get hurt on a 250 just as easily, riding is dangerous on any bike basically.
But these people don't have any experience they havent been riding bikes on farms since they were kids or whatever they are straight up virgins to riding and they are talking about getting 1000s for their 1st riding experience ever? Does'nt take a genius to know thats a bad idea.....
Well if they don't have any experience, it's a bad idea, unless they're not a total noob, and they're willing to have some maturity over the whole deal, and take it easy while learning. That's what really matters, the individual's maturity. The bike goes as fast as you make it. It's just dumb to say they'd kill themselves on a bike that does 186 mph or so. They may actually have the brains to not jam the throttle back. That's all what it comes down to.
Yeah they'll be able to ride it, probably. Until a situation comes up that they have that "Oh SHIT" moment and grab too much brake or too much throttle and highside the bike. I'm not saying they'll kill themselves, I'm just saying that it's not a good idea. And honestly, anyone who has ridden both dirtbikes and RR bikes knows that the experience does not translate well. And as for the bike only going as fast as you make it, people who buy them for their first bikes are buying them to go fast
With pretty much no exceptions, Yes, I take my bike fast, on a track, how do I know what can happen? Cause I was a stupid kid once too, and even with bein on a dirtbike since I was 11 I couldn't control my bike when I went too hot into the turn. I thought my dirtbike experience would help me too, it doesn't, any other experienced rider will tell you that. I wised up, when it comes down to it an RR is not a wise choice for a new rider, it isn't a definite death, but it just isn't smart.
I personaly had 350 for two years after I got R1 and it has pretty dengerous so get 250 or maximum 600...not more....trust me you will have a lot of fun enyway!!! We all don't want you dead. Drive with brains not balls!

I'm not trying to be mean either but you can get a 1300 as a first bike and not give bikers a bad name, if you are just using it for commuting in style or for show or what not. But lets face it most people don't do that, if they were to do that then yes you can get a Busa and not be an incompetent person and give bikers a bad name. You have to admit though it would be nice to have one.

Getting a Haybusa for a first bike = VERY bad idea. If really think that you're billy bad-ass, think again. Most rookie riders have more balls than brains. I was the same why when I started riding. I got a 636 and if it wasn't for my expirence on useing the clutch to control the engine output on a standard tranny, I'd proolly be dead right now. I'm not trying to be mean, but, getting a 'Busa as a first bike is a horrible idea.
Getting an R6 is a good starter bike if you are fimiliar with riding in general. If you are jsut starting out, I'd recommend a 250cc. You may out-grow the 250, but it more forgiving than a 600 as far as controlable power and handling is concerned. It will take a while to out-grow the 600 unless you ride aggressivly. If use it for everyday riding, you won't ever get to use the bikes' full power, so you'll be happy for a while.
you will NEVER outgrow the power of ANY 600cc superbike on the streets, it will not happen, you will find the limit of the street before you find the limit of the bike. on the track, different story, but not street riding. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a dumbass or a squid.
My mate has a cbr600rr and i have a cbr1000rr and he is revving his little balls off trying to keep up with me when im just relaxing squeezing the power on... I find the torque and power of a 1000 much safer for accelerating and keeping up with the boys... You don't have to ride quite as hard as on a 600 mind you always be switched on and yer i know what your saying Skippy you would be hard pressed to need more than a 600 in most places on the road but i would beg to differ on ridability

I love and hate the design at the same time.
The Hayabusa design is a result of "form follows function".... Not many bikes are as stable and nice too drive in speeds over 250km/h than this bike. Its a comfy and sporty missile with two seats - just a great allrounder bike. The 2008 (stock) will burn rubber @ 170km/h with full throttle - it`s a bike that needs respect. :)

Any rider would know, the performance on either is almost identical. 600's will commonly do 170 mph, then a 1000 will top out 16 mph later. Riding in general is dangerous, to get into the sport, the person needs a brain in their head. A few less horsepower will not stop them from getting hurt if they're going to mess around. That basically sums it up in my view. 24.4 less cubic inches will not save a dumb person.

personal preference tho Skippy, and to all those peeps out there talkin about getting a big bike for your first bike seriously thats just silly. I rode a 250 around for 3 years before taking the leap to a 1000 and it is a HUGE leap believe me.. At least ride for 1 year in both wet and dry conditions on a 250cc but id reccomend more... And remember baby steps never try stuff you can't do yet ya gotta slowly work ya way up... Oh and if you lose your license stop riding or you will end up like me!

Wasn't really talkin about rideability, you are right, a 100 has a better torque curve, but what most people ask when they ask when they will outgrow a bike is "when will I outgrow how fast this thing goes", and in reality, you will never outgrow or outride a 600 on the streets, a 1000 may be easier to ride at slow speeds, but you never truly NEED it. plus, that torque curve on a new riders twitchy throttle will loop the bike if you so much as look at it wrong.

What I think is silly is you guys recommending what bike is best for all people, if someone has even the least bit of experience on a clutch, how the powerband and throttle reacts, and riding in general, they can handle anything from a PW50 dirtbike, to a Hayabusa. Experience is key, but so is common sense. If they're easy on the gas, and just have a little know how and maturity in their noggin, they'd be fine. You can get hurt on a 250 just as easily, riding is dangerous on any bike basically.

Well if they don't have any experience, it's a bad idea, unless they're not a total noob, and they're willing to have some maturity over the whole deal, and take it easy while learning. That's what really matters, the individual's maturity. The bike goes as fast as you make it. It's just dumb to say they'd kill themselves on a bike that does 186 mph or so. They may actually have the brains to not jam the throttle back. That's all what it comes down to.

Yeah they'll be able to ride it, probably. Until a situation comes up that they have that "Oh SHIT" moment and grab too much brake or too much throttle and highside the bike. I'm not saying they'll kill themselves, I'm just saying that it's not a good idea. And honestly, anyone who has ridden both dirtbikes and RR bikes knows that the experience does not translate well. And as for the bike only going as fast as you make it, people who buy them for their first bikes are buying them to go fast

With pretty much no exceptions, Yes, I take my bike fast, on a track, how do I know what can happen? Cause I was a stupid kid once too, and even with bein on a dirtbike since I was 11 I couldn't control my bike when I went too hot into the turn. I thought my dirtbike experience would help me too, it doesn't, any other experienced rider will tell you that. I wised up, when it comes down to it an RR is not a wise choice for a new rider, it isn't a definite death, but it just isn't smart.

I personaly had 350 for two years after I got R1 and it has pretty dengerous so get 250 or maximum 600...not more....trust me you will have a lot of fun enyway!!! We all don't want you dead. Drive with brains not balls!

But lets face it most people don't do that, if they were to do that then yes you can get a Busa and not be an incompetent person and give bikers a bad name. Getting a Haybusa for a first bike = VERY bad idea. If really think that you're billy bad-ass, think again. Most rookie riders have more balls than brains. I was the same why when I started riding. I got a 636 and if it wasn't for my expirence on useing the clutch to control the engine output on a standard tranny, I'd proolly be dead right now. I'm not trying to be mean, but, getting a 'Busa as a first bike is a horrible idea.

Getting an R6 is a good starter bike if you are fimiliar with riding in general. If you are jsut starting out, I'd recommend a 250cc. You may out-grow the 250, but it more forgiving than a 600 as far as controlable power and handling is concerned. It will take a while to out-grow the 600 unless you ride aggressivly. If use it for everyday riding, you won't ever get to use the bikes' full power, so you'll be happy for a while.

My mate has a cbr600rr and i have a cbr1000rr and he is revving his little balls off trying to keep up with me when im just relaxing squeezing the power on... I find the torque and power of a 1000 much safer for accelerating and keeping up with the boys... You don't have to ride quite as hard as on a 600 mind you always be switched on and yer i know what your saying Skippy you would be hard pressed to need more than a 600 in most places on the road but i would beg to differ on ridability

Who cares about the looks? You will only see busa`s ugly ass for about one sec before its gone in the horisont anyway. ;)
I love and hate the design at the same time.
The Hayabusa design is a result of "form follows function".... Not many bikes are as stable and nice too drive in speeds over 250km/h than this bike. Its a comfy and sporty missile with two seats - just a great allrounder bike. The 2008 (stock) will burn rubber @ 170km/h with full throttle - it`s a bike that needs respect. :)
