I really enjoyed this! I'd like to learn your arrangement, plus I'd like to work on my Burton technique. Any possibility you'd be willing to share your MIDI file?
Hey I commented here like 9 months ago, and since then, I have actually purchased my malletkat and have been using it for about 5-6 months. I bought a malletkat express witthout sounds and have a kurzweil pc2-r module to go with it as well as roland KC-150 amp. I am totally satisfied. Great product. I get tons of use out of it. Your video was a large influence towards my decision to purchase this item. Thank you.
It depends on which type of malletkat you get, there are two versions.
The first one is "with sounds", which means it has a built-in sound bank. To use that, all you'd need is mallets and some headphones.
The second one is "without sounds", which means it's only a MIDI controller. In addition to mallets, you'd need your own sound bank (any kind of instrument sample library), and most likely a MIDI interface.
My mates played an arrangement of Mario Bros.- 2ppl on Marimba and 1 on kit, for a percussion recital. I thought their version was cool. But yours is way cooler.
I saw a MalletKAT for the first time at PASIC 2005 when 'Lalo' performed.
Hey Jack. My name is Justin and I am a vibraphonist from Baltimore. I ran into your video looking for some malletkats online. And great rendition of Mario Bros. Seeing your video made me more interested in buying one.
Hey bud, you play in a drum corp. ? Most people who play four mallets must have done some sort of Marching band/Drumline/Percussion ensemble/Drum corp.
They're both pretty great programs... I couldn't really say one is better than the other.
The main difference is that Kontakt is purely a sample library, but Reason can be used as a full virtual studio (although in this case I only used it in ReWire mode - as a sound source, just like Kontakt).
That's why I love youtube! It has amazing inspiring musicians like you! Keep it up dude, Im inspired to do my own arrangement thanks to you! ^o^
Excellent combination of instrumentation, and its so bouncy~

For the with sounds one, it only plays into headphones, and not out loud, right? Oh and also, where did you buy your malletkat?
RebelliousToast 2 years ago
Yeah there are no speakers on the instrument.
I bought mine directly from the company that makes them - Alternate Mode.
jackshenker 2 years ago
Ok., because that was where i was browsing. Thanks for your help.

MclarencarV 3 years ago
not everyone doest four mallet for drum corp or marching band. it's just kinda a standard for mallet percussion.
BlahFreak24 3 years ago
I started playing mallets when I took a class at college a year ago.
If I had gone to high school in the US I'm sure I would've done marching band/drumline/drum corp stuff.
