Unfortunately its true, TECs biggest weakness is the connect rods. I ripped the stock rod to pieces in my TEC H70 rebuild (luckily it didn't go through the crankcase) and struck out trying to locate a billet replacement. Going to move up to my TEC HM100, i'm told that ARC Racing stcoks a billet rod for this engine.
me and my friend put a h80 on our go cart. we got it up to 35mph in 100 feet. well until we blown the head gasket and a rod shot out of it. today we put a honda gx 140 on it. it does the same speed with out it trying.
Yes, very well, must have when running on dirt or back roads as i don't want any debris getting sucked into the carb - check out my other TEC H70 running videos for examples
@pivotboy63 - Ya, if you are gonna put a muffler on, why not eliminate the slightly restrictive pipe and just have the muffler on. You would get better performance if you had one, or the other, but not both.
@benrobinson72 - cant' be man, the vids more than a year old and i just ran the kart yesterday, listen to the other vids of the kart / 7 hp posted - only holes in TECs i've seen were by idiots who ran them out of oil or mistreated them....
@openwheelmanic hey i had a 5.5 tec i ran it good i changed the oil every 3 mounths and next i know the engine is shooting parts and bits of metel at me the whole engine never even ran full throttle
@dragata1 - I have an Argo with a 35 year old Tecumseh 16hp on it and there isn't a thing wrong with it. I have had problems with Tecumseh's before, but I have had just as many problems with Kohler's, Brigg's and Honda's. I don't get why everyone rips on them.
I made a brace for the pipe but it only goes on my TEC 8 / 10 hp motors
w/o modification of the head cover plate (H50 / H70) they have a mounting screw on the head /cover plate that can be used to mount the brace at the cylinder end
sure why not if it will work (might be a litte on the heavy side)...i used a piece of stock mild steel "1 round..with a little smoothing out of the weld everything went together ok (just watch your pipe angle vs the mounting bolt clearance and air filter position.
I have a 7hp H70 on my old mastercraft snowblower. I just rebuilt the carb and got the engine running good but if i leave it idling for a while and then i give it gas a big cloud of smoke comes out of the muffler then goes away. what could this be? I know the obvious like worn rings but could it be something simpler than that?
@dc5000123 I totally trust tecumseh, they are very good and durable engine. I actually just found an old beat up tecumseh at a junk yard (its from 1972) and i put fresh gas and oil in it, fired up on the 3rd pull.
It's a MaxTorque SS series clutch - 12 tooth for #35 chain i purchased from Ideal Karts in Lemington, Ontario, via mailorder some years back - Comet also makes clutches for this type of application and are readily available (kart shops, industrical supply, etc)

DialedBMX 1 month ago
Hope it runs well for you - fyi the TEC H60 engine is what the H50 racing engine was based on, probably would well on a kart.

if you make a 3/4 dimeter 14" long straight pipe you gain 3/4 of a horse power

How are the Tecumsehs quality? i need a answer cause im about to buy one and i need to know if the're good!
Thebigharrypotterfan 2 years ago
I prefer tecumseh over briggs and stratton, but both are good brands
Geminimissions 2 years ago
I'd put a Volkswagen stinger pipe on it.

this has a muffler, not a straight pipe, a straight pipe means NO MUFFLER, just so you know, i got 3 mowers has no mufflers , all straight pipes
SpiritsoftheWolf 2 years ago
the pipe is straight with a muffler on the end...YES ITS A MUFFLER lol
good luck with your mowers
openwheelmanic 2 years ago
they all been running on straight pipe for over 4 years with no problem
SpiritsoftheWolf 2 years ago
where did u get the straight pipe?
mattpitch 2 years ago
cut the flange off a stock muffler, welded on a piece of 1 in round mild steel tube at an angle that would clear the air filter and thats it
openwheelmanic 2 years ago
from a standard 1/2 water pipe

isn't that the same engine that is on the old troy bilt horse tillers?
BeboAltizer 2 years ago

middle 90's vintage
openwheelmanic 2 years ago
then it probably is. i have one on a sears tractor. it is awesome
