@poohtoo2 i got this camera, the E-10. and its not so great anymore, its like 10 year old? and cause its running on AA batteries, it can't hold more than an hour.
I would mention to anyone thinking of getting a Nikon d40 that it doesn't have an internal focus motor so you'll not be able to use the full range of Nikon lenses.
The camera is only part of the picture when buying into a brand, and Olympus lenses are second to none.
And whoever said that smaller sensors produce images no better than a compact is an idiot.
the 450d from canon seems ok for the money ,quite cheap ,reasonable specs and you can upgrade the lens at a later date, all you need from a first entry level dslr, but i still prefer 35mm film in my old Pentax ,but like its been said time & time again you cant beat a good bit of glass, good glass-reasonable body & the eye ,if you dont have it not even hassleblad will help..oh im an ameture the only difference ,a pro earns his/her living from it.Dont mean they are any good though.
Honestly I told him how to enunciates his words distinctly. He used to a Mancunian drunk and pronounced everything with a stammering speech impediment.
the whole point of a DSLR is to get better quality images. Yet this camera has a sensor smaller than every Canon and Nikon DSLR (and therefore poorer quality image) on the market. It has a smaller sensor than many compacts so it'll take images of the quality of a compact.
The only advantage is being able to change the lenses but with a "normal sized" DSLR, the quality will always be better than a compact - even if the compact has more megapixels eg 6mp DSLR is better than 8mp compact.
That's bullshit. Sorry but you are talking out of your arse. Quality is down to; Performance at higher ISOs (quality of sensor), and number of megapixels. Drifting off cameras a bit, the main other factor in the quality conundrum is choice of lens. Pure and simple.
so what size are the sensors in the Canon 5D, and the Canon 1series? they wouldn't happen to be bigger would they? oops..they are. So presumably Canon have no clue either?
Improved performance goes hand in hand with larger ISOs - ever wondered why your phone camera images are grainy? small sensor and poorer iso performance.
A high mp count is only part of the story. give me a larger sensor anyday. If you've never seen or used one then you clearly can't make a convincing arguement.
now if you started reading this dont stop its really scarey!ok send this to five other videos in 143 minutes. When you are done press F6 and your crushes name will apear on the screen in big letters this is weird because it does work.If you break this chance you wont have a crush in the next five years
so wasywon your saying this camera is bad because it has an extra feature wich makes it ALOT more useful but because YOU accosiate this feature with amateurs it's a bad camera?
i believe that this camera was reviewed badly... it's an SLR - IE serious amateur photographer at least... as a photographer I don't want autofocus. I usually set my shots up before i even switch the camera on. The fact that this camera lets u view what u shooting on the screen is a reason i dont take it seriously. a proper camera wont do that, it's like digital zoom - it only appeals to complete amateurs... and complete amateurs dont want an SLR camera.
does it also record video aswell???

being a student, I didn't really want to spend loads, so I narrowed my options down to 3 cameras.
Canon 400D = Around £500
Nikon D40 = Around £300
Olympus E-410 = Around £300
I gave each of them a quick test run, The quality was good on the canon, and i liked the layout, and the fact of having a handgrip.
I found the layout of the Nikon similar, but it lacked in quality.
I finally opted for the Olympus, its price swayed it, and the fact that the quality was similar to that of the canon.

How're you finding the camera?

you really get what you pay for in DSLR's. Ofcourse the 400D was more expensive but it was the only camera in three with CMOS sensor..

I basicly prefer 3 cameras(less than $1500 total).
1. an compact for everyday use.
2. A video Camcorder specifically for videos.
3. and an SLR for more advanced shooting.
I am yet to buy an SLR but it is youtube that makes it hard to choose since bad comments litter almost every brand of SLR
If you want quality that will have a backbone you may want to see what SLR storm chasers use.
If you have seen those videos of tornadoes you know that the cameras must take a lot of use.

darich67,
It is simply not true that its sensor size is smaller than that of compacts.
Nikon APS sensor size: 23.6 x 15.8 mm
Oly sensor size: 18.00 x 13.50 mm
Typical compact size: 4 x 5.3 mm

You can use autofocus in liveview. You just have to just AF button, which is the button next to the viewfinder.
