The Jack Benny radio shows are available at archives.org. You can actually track the evolution of his character and relationship with Jack Benny by listening to those. He was wildly popular often getting louder applause than Jack Benny. It also shows just how talented Jack Benny was. Worth listening to.
Singing and dancing with a mop after his first run through -- what a talent! RIP Mr. Anderson. A role model for the generation who thinks they are the S***!
@BCoriginal1 I couldn't agree with you more on Rochester. But I can't disagree with you more on Stepin Fetchit. I love watch Rochester because he makes you laugh with him. I never could stand Stepin Fetchin because he can only laugh at him.
This was actually an "integrated commercial" from the mid-'50s {a specialty The Sportsmen usually delivered in the middle of the Benny program}. Note the pack of Lucky Strike on the ashtray on top of the piano- an additional chorus [originally at 1:34] was omitted from this reissue print where they (and Rochester) sang the praises of Luckies, incorporating the cigarette's slogans of the time, "Be Happy- Go Lucky" and "Better Tasting Lucky Strike"...
