its actually 4 factors that figure into a round, clean effective punching, effective aggression, defense, and ring generalship. People seem to forget that fact when scoring rounds, if its close with the punches you have to use the other factors to determine a winner. That's what all the marquez supporters seem to forget.

There is a way to make compubox work (or at least work better) which is to use the wisdom of crowds. One man pressing a button can make a mistake, but if you have a certain number of trained individuals all judging the fight and you average out the total response then you can improve the accuracy of it.
It will still be flawed, but the use of judges to determine the outcome of a fight will always be flawed, regardless of what method you use.

comp-u-box has some weight to it, i use it in some arguments/ debates with the box-quaio guys. it's effective when it's used for a round to round basis. but it's more too it than punches thrown and landed, i guy can land 20 pity pat jabs in a round maliginagi style, but if theri opponents lands 5 huge hooks and stubles the guy the edge is in their favor. i use c-box to debate guys who've yet to fight via pbf and pacman. c-box has mayweather persice puncher with manny being sloppy aggressor.

Remember Hal Lederman said he was scoring based on ring generalship and among other things on who was flashier, that's a whole load of bullshit, how can you score for the fighter that looks better when he throws shots. But in reality Pac didn't even look so good, he was a lost boy. But I guess that explains why Hagler lost to Leonard, H. would land some hard shots and L. would sidestep with his shoeshine and look good without doing much.

Professional boxing is scored on clean effective punching, ring generalship and aggressiveness. The later two is usually incorrectly omitted by most people when scoring a fight. Which in turn leads to people scoring incorrectly. Case and point the Pacquiao/Marquez fight. People who don't know how to score a fight had Marquez up by 3 to 4 rounds.

I think it's all about how you judge a fight. Personally I watch one thing only: clear, power punches to the head (the body count less). You can't miss a lot, you can be a good slick defense boxer but you have to punch your opponent more than he punches you. From this point of view I didn't see a clear superiority of Marquez in this fight. This is the same scenario when people overrate too much the underdog's perfomance. It happened the same thing in fights like Mayweather vs DLH...
Mayweather vs Castillo I, Williams vs Martinez I, Maidana vs Morales, Froch vs Dirrell and so on. The majority of people are calling robberies in these fights. I respect the people's opinion about the winner in these fights but in a sport like boxing where the judgement of a fight is strongly influenced by personal preferences, you cannot call for a robbery when the fight is objectively close.

I had the fight very close, every round was close. I had Pac winning 7 to 5. However, I favor the aggressor in fights, someone that favors a defensive counter puncher would swing all the close rounds to JMM I guess. Also a Floyd fanboy will give every close round to JMM. Defense is a judging criteria, taking a risk and getting punched is the opposite of that. So Pac losses 1. Defense. If JMM had more clean or "highlight" punches as you admit then Pac loses 2. Clean Punching. If the backing up caused Manny to get hit with more "Highlight" punches then he loses 3. Ring Generalship. So that's 3/ 4 Criteria lost by Pacquaio.

Interesting point on the creators part, however judges don't base their decisions on compubox, it's more for the fans at home watching on tv, of course there's a margin of era in compubox but anyone with common sense already knows that so why get upset at it? Judges base the score cards on what they see from up close, compubox gives u a Ruffage of the action on a statistical bases, and that's it, no point in getting upset over nothing......

its actually 4 factors that figure into a round, clean effective punching, effective aggression, defense, and ring generalship. People seem to forget that fact when scoring rounds, if its close with the punches you have to use the other factors to determine a winner. That's what all the marquez supporters seem to forget.

There is a way to make compubox work (or at least work better) which is to use the wisdom of crowds. One man pressing a button can make a mistake, but if you have a certain number of trained individuals all judging the fight and you average out the total response then you can improve the accuracy of it.
It will still be flawed, but the use of judges to determine the outcome of a fight will always be flawed, regardless of what method you use.

comp-u-box has some weight to it, i use it in some arguments/ debates with the box-quaio guys. it's effective when it's used for a round to round basis. but it's more too it than punches thrown and landed, i guy can land 20 pity pat jabs in a round maliginagi style, but if theri opponents lands 5 huge hooks and stubles the guy the edge is in their favor. i use c-box to debate guys who've yet to fight via pbf and pacman. c-box has mayweather persice puncher with manny being sloppy aggressor.

Remember Hal Lederman said he was scoring based on ring generalship and among other things on who was flashier, that's a whole load of bullshit, how can you score for the fighter that looks better when he throws shots. But in reality Pac didn't even look so good, he was a lost boy. But I guess that explains why Hagler lost to Leonard, H. would land some hard shots and L. would sidestep with his shoeshine and look good without doing much.

Professional boxing is scored on clean effective punching, ring generalship and aggressiveness. The later two is usually incorrectly omitted by most people when scoring a fight. Which in turn leads to people scoring incorrectly. Case and point the Pacquiao/Marquez fight. People who don't know how to score a fight had Marquez up by 3 to 4 rounds.

I think it's all about how you judge a fight. Personally I watch one thing only: clear, power punches to the head (the body count less). You can't miss a lot, you can be a good slick defense boxer but you have to punch your opponent more than he punches you. From this point of view I didn't see a clear superiority of Marquez in this fight. This is the same scenario when people overrate too much the underdog's perfomance. It happened the same thing in fights like Mayweather vs DLH...

Mayweather vs Castillo I, Williams vs Martinez I, Maidana vs Morales, Froch vs Dirrell and so on. The majority of people are calling robberies in these fights. I respect the people's opinion about the winner in these fights but in a sport like boxing where the judgement of a fight is strongly influenced by personal preferences, you cannot call for a robbery when the fight is objectively close.

However, I favor the aggressor in fights, someone that favors a defensive counter puncher would swing all the close rounds to JMM I guess. Also a Floyd fanboy will give every close round to JMM. Defense is a judging criteria, taking a risk and getting punched is the opposite of that. So Pac losses 1. Defense. If JMM had more clean or "highlight" punches as you admit then Pac loses 2. Clean Punching. If the backing up caused Manny to get hit with more "Highlight" punches then he loses 3. Ring Generalship. So that's 3/ 4 Criteria lost by Pacquaio.

the important thing is who set the pattern of the fight (winner) and who was the guy looking for answers? There is no doubt it was Marquez who set and controlled the pattern of the fight and it was Pac who was searching for answers all night long. Flip flopper? I've been saying the same thing for 2 years when you weren't even around. Pac kept reaching and leaning in that's why the head butt occured. Southpaws and orthodox fighters always clash heads. Pac was also bleeding out of his mouth and Marquez even staggered him a few times. I actually scored the first 2 fights for Pac but he clearly lost this time. This is the worst he's ever looked in my opinion. If he fights Floyd it's a total mismatch. I'd put my house on it.

@Dredgification @jhabeeb is not necessarily discarding compubox per say. He saying that because a fighter throws & lands more punches doesn't mean he won the fight. Its about how many rounds you win. Manny might have landed more, but really he lost all but 3 rounds. Landing more punches in those 3 rounds doesn't win him the fight, I'm sorry but Manny lost! And Floyd might have high stats in compubox, but he wins most of the rounds, if not all in a fight ALSO. Winning rounds is very important!

Truthfully I like Manny and yes he fought very hard and yes it was very a good fight and I really enjoyed it. It's nothing personal against him I just feel Floyd is much more skilled than him which doesn't mean that I think Manny is a bad fighter I just feel that he is overated a bit. He is not an all time great in my opinion nor is Floyd. My favorite fighter is Sugar Ray Leonard. I just think compubox is bullshit and a very weak argument here. That was my point. I'm 42 years old now and I've been watching the sport since I was 9 thats 33 years. When I first started watching fights they never even had compubox. I don't believe that it's relavent

@jhabeeb1 ok ill explain how pacquiao won. 1 pac is the champion marquez is the challenger yes marquez had a lots of moments in the fight than pacquiao from round 1-7 but marquez didn't out hassled pacquiao. pacqiiao throws alot of punch every round and marquez only lands 12 - 15 punches because he is just counter punching and throw 3 punch combination every two rounds. and at 7 round when the old man says you are winning the fight. he marquez decided to settles for a decision.

@sawakadin No stupid, there is nothing in the rules of judging that has anything to do with challenger vs champion. That's just some dimwitted excuse pactards are making up. My example is pactard logic. If I were to use Pactard logic, than Marquez definitely should of won the second fight, because he was the champion with HIS belt on the line. He landed more punches. So Pacquiao knocked him down once, but he didn't knock him out, wasn't enough for the challenger to conquer the champion.
