If we are going to discuss changing the rules, consider how the media changed the rules on how the presidential canadates were covered. Almost all media oulets slanted their coverage towards Obama. Spike does have a point in that going to Harvard does not equal elitism but it is definitly a fault found on both sides of the political spectrum.
