Wow sounds like a monster of a beer. I have an imperial stout that I plan on "icing" a couple quarts of. Still has a few weeks of fermentation to go... Do you have the recipe for the barleywine posted any where? Cheers!!!
@drolretfa Go to basicbrewingvideo site and click on the pdf link under the December 31, 2010 - Hoppy Wheat Beer episode. You'll find the barleywine recipe there. - James
Great video! Def. pointing me in the right direction, I will tune in to new stuff and go back to view the old stuff this is well conveyed and straight forward, as it should be!
Great vid! Thanks for the legal info! By the way, a Proof and Tralles hydrometer (normally used to calculate distilled spirit aclohol content) should be able to give a reasonably accurate %ABV reading. Many homebrew supply shops carry them.
Something tells me that a half reduced 10% beer doesn't exactly equate to a 20% beer, I think there are other factors in play on that. Maybe you should consult the people over at Brewdog (who do a lot of iced beers) to see if they can give you a good way of calculating the ABV.
Also, check out the madfermentationist's hair of the dog dave (iced adam) clone for more info on the theoretics vs. actual measurements of freezing the beer
how long will that last once opened? could it be put into a decanter like you would whiskeys and such?

@aikidojoe1 You can, but I've found that it will oxidize over time.

So after being out in the air while draining, is it still possible to bottle for later use? or will it just be oxidized too bad?
slegaregb 1 year ago
@slegaregb You should be fine to bottle. A little oxidation might even give a bit of character to the beer.

Good show! Thanks for clearing up the "icing" myth. I am looking forward to making some applejack without fear of the law.
