  • i wanna hear more "lighting bolt!"

  • The only issue I have with sparring like this is the dual wielding guy keeps swinging for the legs. I find that a little... "inadequate" is the only word that comes to mind. If the hit is to be counted, it should be scored on the chest really (not the head because then some people may get carried away, then you have a guy who will be amazing for pirate cosplays). If not, what stops you from trying to hit your opponents feet/hands for hits?

  • Dude, I like your shield, eh? :D

  • i like this Captain Canada more than Captain America

  • Oh, Canada! Our home and native land...

  • que material utilizan en las espadas? es acaso nieve seca?

  • Gotta love all the critics with 'expert advice'. Like anyone is going to take advice left by some random trying to sound like a pro in a youtube comment seriously.... If anyone can do better, post a vid reply and show us a demo.

  • I would smoke both you fools with just a single stick in my left hand.

    Do you even lift?

  • @stoner4010 You need agility and finesse to win a sword duel. Sheer power is not a sure way to win. Ever see fight scenes in movies where the quick small guy beats the large and slow guy?

  • @SkatesBT er, yeah, but those are movies. Who says the large guys actually more slow than the small guy? Small = fast and large = slow is often exaggerated in movies. Plus a large guy has a bit more reach than the short guy so could possibly keep the little bugger away from him. :D

  • @SkatesBT You automatically make your self look like an enormous idiot when you compare real life to movies. There is nothing NOTHING similar with a real sword fight and a movie sword fight. And big guys being slow is just an ridiculous myth.

  • check out my vids for some full speed full contact realistic sword fighting! search: Urban kendo

  • When the shield guy comes at the duel wielder, he (duel wielder) should be able to block and counter (the weak spot on the shield guy is his left side when he attacks. Yet he does nothing with the second sword...

  • yeah canada home of the geek ! eh

  • I think I just regained my virginity watching this...

  • We Canadians strike fear into the hearts of our enemies with our Maple Leaf Shields!!!!

  • Prot warrior vs Fury warrior......

  • That canadian shield makes me think of the south park episode "Royal Pudding."

    NO PRINCESS! NOOO!

  • You cant be serious with this group. What do you think you can acomplish when you swing sticks like kids while jumping around.

1- Iam no super PRO in fencing but the thing I know for sure is that your feet are HORIBLE.

Solution: Both legs MUST be on the ground when you hit your opponent... = German school (Which I gues you are trying to apply).

2- Dual Wield? Really? Do you even know the types of weapons? Have you even ever heard of the Hand and a half sword?

3- NOT EVERYONE CAN BE ARAGORN!

  • You have to go lower and move around your target when using dual wield...

  • why sit around swinging padded swords when you could join the SCA(Society of creative Anachronism) and swing rattan sword at semi full pace/power and crack some skulls hahah

  • GO, CAPTAIN CANADA!!! GO!!!

  • Gotta be more aggressive and brutal!

  • @Piatasify i was just about to say the exact same thing :D

  • Ah, the ellusive Canadian Knight, such a wonder of nature.

  • the shield should have been a bit higher from time to time, largr would be good too so then its less likely for the oppenent to hit the neck - killing blow in most situations

  • Hmmm...dual wielding isn't that good, as soon you get a mask on and you are allowed to hit one in the head or hands or use anormal size shield ( 80-105 cm). Or my fav...the spear...I hope u use a cup :)

  • Very interesting, and of course very fun looking, I've been looking into similar groups myself. But, I take it you as the uploader are the dual wielder ? Don't you feel that you might have been being a bit too defensive for that style ? I mean, I'm all for a good defense, but it seems to me the beauty of having an extra sword instead of a shield is that you can press your opponent harder.

  • 0:05 poke :D

  • Duel wielding, if done right, can be one of the best ways of attacking. Simply there is just one shield and two swords attack with primary sword using a good bit of energy against the shield leaving them open for an attack with the secondary sword. The other person is to busy trying to hold off the primary to be able to defend from the secondary.

  • if you want to fight with wooden swords, the S.C.A. uses Ratan , full contact , full speed, in armour, its loads of fun, and there are groups worldwide

  • FOR CANADA!

  • what a poor video

  • Nice video there. The florentine fighter needs to use body positioning and feints in addition to swords to take the advantage. Almost all of his shots were from the right hand with the left hand wasting space. Even then, there was no combination of shots that would break down the shieldmans guard.

  • Nice

  • When i go dual i do a lot of spins and dont leave myself as open because it helps when you fight 2 ametuars.

  • O caaanadaaaah!!! ^^

  • A friend of mine is a dual wielder and I normal use a sword and shield. I have more experience so I normally end up winning in our fights. My normal way to gain the advantage is to cover one sword with my shield while using my other sword against his, essentially making it a sword vs sword fight. I then have an advantage considering I am ambidextrous, and can switch the sword each round

  • dude, throw shield at him and imidiately hit him xD

  • GO CANADA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've been trying to figure out how a dual-wield could be optimized myself, thanks for posting the video. I think one of the dual-wielders mistakes is that he is often just using one sword and not thninking of what to be doing with the other. Unlike a shield which can be kept close as an effective strategy the second sword needs to be con stantly used as either a shield or an attacking point to be truly effective. Also, don't you think the size of the dual-wielders swords was a bit unrealistic?

  • @DaveZylstra: The size of the training swords we are using are based off of historical swords. However, it's usually more common for someone to duel wield with a smaller sword or a dagger in their off hand because there's less chance of the weapons getting bound together. That is something that has happened to me before. Using both larger swords I do have to compensate and be more careful. Also, it's a good idea to get practice in with your off hand before jumping into duel wielding.

  • @Malarious for using 2 swords or sticks check the eskrima or anis techniques which revolve around 2 similar weapons wield. and yes using only one sword at a given time is the hardest obstacle to overcome in this cases

  • @DaveZylstra you brought up a good point. if you have 2 weapons, USE them lol. unlike sword and board where the enemy can most likely tell what side youll be attacking from, with 2 weapons you can be unpredictable since you can attack from any side with a 2nd weapon. you can attack with one and attack with the other. OR, one thing i like to do agaianst shields with dualing is attack one side so theyll be guarding that side then attack the other since the other side will be left open.

  • @DaveZylstra parry and fence with the one in your left hand, slash and hack with the one in right hand, is it easy against a shielded oppnent? no, is it possible to win? quite

  • humans get gayer and gayer everyday.. thumbs up for evolution

  • shield usually just slows stuff down

shieldless combats tend to end quicker

  • @anothguy Not always, when I use sword and shield I end up more aggressive, because I do not have to worry about defense as much. I will charge in more often to make the opponents sword harder to maneuver.

  • no fullcontact = no fighting

  • @klappspatenkamikaze: Technically you're right. This is just sparring. This is an introductory phase of our group. As members advance (if they choose to) they will be introduced into a more agressive portion that involves full contact, with metal wasters, armour, punching, grappling etc.

  • Thought he was going to dual wield shields :(

  • Lloyd v.s. Kratos lol

  • @oflari For some reason, I was thinking of Lloyd vs. Zelos when I saw this haha.

  • @oflari who is lloyd?

  • The knock down attempt on the sheild was nice but what is duel wielder afraid of...knock the shield and swing for head..when he ducks, bring in the finishing move from underneath...you could have so brought the sword under the sheild arm and raised it for the kill

  • good tech, for the duel wielding. aim for the sword, that may his shield side is open, he'll think ull go for his left, but gor for his right even tho hes blocking 1 sword already, just thrust threw the arm, he wont expect it .

  • A basic technique for someone who doesn't normally dual is to use their dominant hand for lethal strikes and to use their weaker hand to block and feint.

  • those weapons in a metal form would be way too heavy to wield with one hand effectively :P im gonna look for other videos from you with shorter swords

  • bareley ever used his left hand :o

  • Lol I wanna challenge one of these guys :D I'll show a demonstration of speed and strength.

  • @Genshyu

Well considering that part of the rules used with the padded weapons is that neither person can hit with too much force. If you do hit with too much force it will break the weapon anyways, which is part of their design.

This isn't about being the best or strongest or fastest. It's about having fun. Those of us with more skill actually heavily slow ourselves down and hold back to prevent hurting others and to give others more chance to have fun.

  • Thats not what I meant lol. I know this, But what I was talking about is a challenge, not the same thing these guys are doing. Besides even if I did challenge them I would never actually hurt anyone, unless needed.

  • @Genshyu

If you recognize that what they are doing is not what you are suggesting, then why would you want to challenge them?

  • Well because I need someone to challenge that actually KNOWS martial arts, for example, these guys. My friends dont know martial arts, they just know how to throw hands and it's pretty boring playing around with them :/

  • Ah, I See... Well we actually have two levels of the organization, Recreational and Martial. The rec. level is for everyone and is just about having fun. In order to progress to the martial level everyone has to be fully trained in self control required for the rec. level. At the martial level we use wooden and aluminum wasters, with full leather armour and full medieval combat techniques (including grappling, disarms, etc). The kill system is different as well.

  • yeah, I'm not really interested in "kill system" :P But this does sound interesting. Where are you guys located at? Do you have a place in or near Bradenton Florida? And how much does it cost, becuse I might be interested. (btw I'm poor so please give me a low price lol)

  • We're in Edmonton, AB. We've been working on a standardized rule and testing system that can be used by anyone to set up their own groups without having one of us help in person but still have things consistent. Everything is almost ready, but not yet.

On the plus side, the padded wasters only cost about $5 in materials which you can get mostly from Home Depot. (initial investment of about $20 which will build a number of wasters). So the start up costs are low.

  • Ah, nice.

  • cool, demo, i'm ambidextrous, trained... father was born that way...

anyway, i prefer to dual wield when doing this, much more impressive and cool looking when both arms are equal power and control... takes practice though.

your friend will get it if he keeps at it.

  • Interesting demonstration. Hope there are similar fighting groups in my hood. Nice work.

  • the Canada shield is awesome. also the sparring is cool to watch too. can't imagine that's how people used to fight way back

  • they didnt they duel sword guy hasnt really had any practice he tried to stab where he should slice any person with decent dual sword skills could easily take out a sword and shield fighter

  • Dude....why the hell did the guy try to stab him on his shield....what does that accomplish? He never even had to move his shield, the dual wielder was aiming for them. You guys aren't a sword fighting group. You're just guys pretending to be a sword fighting group.

  • By hitting the very edge of my shield he was hoping that I would either over-react in my attempt to block it, or I would counter attack in another way that would expose myself.

  • you are holding the dual swords wrong

  • looks like fun, but you guys really need more practice :s

  • You pretty much nailed the two reasons that we do this, it is fun and we are getting more practise, because we do need it.

  • @Malarious Have you guys ever wore armor or reenact warriors such as Romans or Greeks etc?

  • How do you expect anyone to take your useless comment seriously? It's neither original nor funny. Please try again.
