Martin couldn't get into North America so all they could play were songs that their drum tech knew which were just songs off of Damnation but they gave us all $5 back if we still wanted to see the show and offered to refund our tickets if we didn't. They stayed behind after the show for almost 3 hours signing stuff and chatting with fans. Thats what I call a band that actually gives a shit about their fans. Love this band!
I think all fans who have gone back with Opeth since the beginning miss Martin Lopez....he joined after morningrise, that I know but still I see and only see Martin as the best drummer they've had. He added so much flavor to the band with his badass little subtle fills n things that you just had to keep an ear open to. He truly was fun to listen to when you saw them play live. I'm still a fan of Opeth and always will be but Martin will always be the better drummer. Sorry kids it's the truth!
lopez is good sure, and i liked him in opeth but i think the new guy is actually a better player, or a stronger player IE - doesn't speed up and slow down as much, and sounds like he has more practice and consistency. Weather or not you feel his style is better in OPETH is opinion, I like them both.
yeah but lopez almost kind of added on that world music flavor in songs like Death Whispered a Lulabye and such. I think he had to leave because of a criminal conviction and couldn't get to North America.
@TheVikingWarrior09 did you see them at the graceland? (now el corazon). I remember going to an opeth show when I was younger and moonspell was one of the opening bands. just remembering the balding lead singer with his skeletor staff is enough to make me burst out laughing at any given time.
Actually that WAS the show I saw them at. Sitting through that crappy band and Devildriver for opening sets actually made Opeth *that* much better on stage afterwards lol. And I think they even played April Ethereal during their set ^_^.
Awesome song live, loving it. By the way, its Lopez drumming in this video. Axe didn't play with them till like 2006-2007 and this was right after deliverence and during ghost reveries, so he was playing live with him. May Opeth live forever!
The final chorus to this song is hands down one of the most powerful and epic pieces of metal ever written. I literally get a natural high when I hear it. The only other musical passage that does that to me is the middle transition in Tool's 10,000 days.
It is indeed Axe. We all know Axe wasn't in the band in 04, but Martin Lopez was barely doing any shows and tours with his anxiety attacks, and Axe was replacing him.
They reached their peak with MAYH and Still Life, made Blackwater Park which was good but still didnt compare and then almost hit the bullseye again with Ghost Reveries. But as i said, MAYH and Still Life are by far their best albums, and possibly the best metal albums of all time.
This song literally makes me envision springtime environments. That's what's so awesome about MAYH and Still Life. The music perfectly fits what's being described.
these guys make bands like cannibal corpse and severe torture look stupid Opeth have talent unlike them. I love my arms your hearse Demon of the fall and When are great. OPETH FOREVER

With Lopez, the things he didn't play are just important was what he did. He was truly tasteful and knew the value of simplicity.

I fell asleep during Moonspell's set. Explains why the lead singer had to keep yelling "WAKE UP, SEATTLE!"

Great song, its got a real black metal vibe to it, especially the intro.

My thoughts exactly.
I dont know why, but I associate music with colors. Black metal always makes me think gold or yellow, and this song does too.

Black metal (and this song) gives me a lightshow of purple and black.
It always carries a sense of despair, but so, so beautiful.

Probably one of their best songs. Wish they hadn't gotten a keyboardist (they sounded more original without one, IMO).

i dunno, per is a pretty amazing musician. makes them sound much bigger and trippy, especially in a live setting.
