There were 60's cars going by, some 70's cars, a couple of 80's cars. Nowadays they were all be late model newer cars. People driving late model cars in the early 80's was relatively rare as compared to now where everyone has a new car it seems like.

The difference between Sly and Lundgren was already so huge he gained weight just to make it believable that he could beat Dolph. In rocky III he was making a point out of the fact that he slimed down to beat Clubber, that was the least he ever weight until he made some horse riding movie.
