  • @getalongsonny Than you very much for the nice comment :-) good luck on your job.

  • Great video. Thanks.

  • Where do you turn off the water supply at before you start? By the way awesome video, its very helpful! :)

  • @txhotdavid Sorry I took so long to get back to you, But you have a two or three handle tub and shower valve. You going to need to cut it off and the main to the house. If you have a basement it should be at the basement wall facing the street it may be behind a panel or in a closet. If no basement look in the room with the water heater and furnace, of outside on the side of the house.

  • @txhotdavid if you live down south you should find it outside close to the building wall and some times in the garage behind a panel or in the utility room were the water heater and the furnace is, Good look.

  • @plumberx Yesterday i started to work on my shower handle without turning off the water supply and see if anything happen, I was wrong, I got blasted with hot water lol. Beginners mistakes lol. Then I had to ran outside and try to find the water supply stop valve, it was in the front of my house and was covered in dirt from all the years. So i had to dig all the dirt out and manage to trun of the water supply.

  • @txhotdavid Lol I'm not laughing at you i'm laughing with you we have all been there. Glade you didn't get hurt. Thank you for the comment :-)

  • @plumberx At the point i though "omg what am i doing, i dont know anything about plumbing" i was so scare lol. Oh and it was 37 degrees outside and i was covered in water and was trying to dig dirt out to find the valve. Once I got that done, the rest of it was pretty easy. The only tricky part was trying to put the seat in first before the faucet valve because it was so small it kept on falling out.

  • @plumberx Now my tub is leak free and im so proud of myself for doing it all by myself. Thank you plumberx

  • Thanks great do it yourself vid!!!!

  • @tvideoman2000 thank you very much for the nice comment :-)

  • Thank you for the vid.

  • What's up if you replace the seat and stem, and the shower is still leaking? It's cold water, so just replaced the cold side. Figure if the hot side had an issue, the water would be hot.

  • @xmanni02 After replacing stems washers and seat and that don't work, It could be the seat is not seating right and the seat could really be lose and not fitting right. This happens when its not the right seat for your faucet. Its time to replace the tub and shower valve. I know Och!

  • Are the stem fittings to the water line a standard size?

  • @elchicho25 Sorry guy but no. The stem comes all different size and thread time. Some times the threads don't match or the Size. To make sure you get the right stem. I would take the stem to True Value or Ace Hardware There pretty good at matching them up for you. Chances are when your community was built every one in the community more then most likely have the same type of plumbing fixtures, So the True Value or Ace Hardware would go with the community Plumbing needs. Good Luck and thanks

  • I replaced the valve stems and seats on my two handle shower. When I did the water flow was drastically lowered and whenever someone ran water elsewhere in the house the water temp would change. I bought the new stems from Home Depot but it was for a three valve system like for a tub shower(this is for a shower stall. Any idea what I did wrong?

  • This is much better than expert village videos, thanks!

  • I have a question about fixing my leaking bathtub faucet. It is a two handled one just as in the video. I know what I am looking for when fixing these but in our apartment I can not shut off the water to fix the leak. It started just about a week ago and we have lived here about 4 months now. Am I going to have to get maintenance in here to deal with it due to the shutting off the water? Just curious because its like running uphill getting them in here to do anything.

  • @lostrealist4388 Yes your right If your in an apartment you don't want to work on it. Leave it to the maintenance Personal. Because the cut off may supply the hold building. I know it can be a pain waiting for the Maintenance Personal I really don't have an answer for you in this. Sorry. You may have to go over the Maintenance personal head to get some thing done. I hope you not paying the water bill

  • I have a similar setup in my apartment with 3 knobs. The left for hot water, the middle to divert the flow of water from the shower head to the tub faucet and vice versa and the right for the cold water. I have been having temperature fluctuations during showers. What would be the cause of this and is there a quick fix? Please let me know. Your videos have been very helpful. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem? Thanks!

  • @GLOCK23 One thing it could be when your taking a shower some one ells may be using water ells were causing a drop in pressure. The best this you can do for this is change out the three handle to a Posi temp tub and shower valve and they only come in single handle. But your going to want to talk to the meatiness guy first. One other thing it could be. If the washer on the hot side is to large in the stem it can swell up after getting hot and cut or slow down the flow of hot water. Good luck

  • Our house is one of the ones that has some oxidation and we're having trouble getting the knob of the faucet off. I don't want to pull too hard for fear of breaking a pipe. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • @plumberx- i cleaned the calcium that had built up and it did the job :D thanks again! one problem/question: a bathroom's sink faucet upstairs is making some noise when we open the hot water (btw, the one i fixed is the hot side of a tub faucet from a bathroom downstairs). it sounds like the pipes making the noise. any idea why?

  • @gorgeouss79 Yes its sounds like a loose washer. remove the stem and tighten the washer. This also happen's when the toilet fill valve starts going bad and trapping air. But yours sound like a loose washer. Good luck and thank you for your comment :-)

  • Thank you PlumberX, I couldn't figure out how to get the stem out of the wall, and I just looked up "2 Handle tub" and your video was the first result.

  • @Chewyrobbo Glade I could help. Thank you for the comment.

  • @plumberx: First, thank you for posting this. I learned a lot from this video. I replaced the stem (house is 50 years old, it took a special order to replace the stem). However, the knob now doesnt turn all the way (hot water side~ didnt replace the cold water one). do you have any idea why? fyi: this particular knob was never able to turn all the way ever since we bought the house in 2004. any help would be great, thanks. oh, i can show you pictures if you want. thanks again. (female plumber)

  • @gorgeouss79 Yes if you could send me a photo. Sounds like you may have hard water. and this tub and shower valve may have not been use very much it the pass. This would cause calcium built up in the valve body limiting the movement of the stem. If you could get the stem out oil it up and clean the calcium out of the valve itself with a small wire brush like one that you would use to clean copper pipe fittings.

  • Cheers! Lot of help.

  • This was a great help. You are a champ. Thanks mate.

  • @territorian99 Your welcome glade I could help. Thank you for the comment

  • I thank you for this video. I attempted to repair the hot water faucet but I was hendered by the stem being too deep in the wall, I was told that a "hole" was to be cut into the wall behind the faucet, Once again, thank-you very much!!
