@mauriciomille Pass me the colors... Concealed harmony of contrasting beauties! Floria, my ardent lover, is dark haired. And you, unknown beauty, crowned with blond hair, You have blue eyes, Tosca has black eyes! Art, in its mysterious way, blends the contrasting beauties together... But while I'm painting her, My only thought, My only thought is of you, Tosca, it is of you! This is a translation of the italian text Cavaradossi looks at his painting of lattavanti and sees similarities to tosc
Voz de extraordionaria calidad por ser una emisión limpia, quizás no adecuada a este repertorio pesante y orquestal, resolviendo con oficio la zona aguda y no tan admirablemente la zona grave.
Well you are right but remember that 50 is not an old age for a tenor, tenor has a fully mature voice at 40is so 50 is not old at old, Its when u should be at your best.
@tdeane34 Yes, that´s what I wanted to say sorry, An opera singer is at his/her best at 40, With thr right tecnique and repertory a singer shoud also be in a good level at 50 and 50is. Thanks for your remark
Hope nobody offend with this, but i never like Pavarotti as an actor. I really enjoy his concert, but almost never enjoy his productions. Even in right roles for his voice. A lot of time he stop and sing for the audience leaving his role as an actor. Or dont move as his character need for context, lyric, etc. Pavarotti sing Vesti La Guibba extremely good. Domingo too. But Domingo as Canio really touch me, Pavarotti didnt :S
What are you talking about? Luciano act amazing in his role as Canio in Pagliaccio, at least that from 1994. and the big part of his acting was in his face expression and in his emotional voice. because of that Luciano much touching me than Domingo, never mind how much good he acted.
2:09 is spun in a way that only Pav could do. Such a spin to the voice! Excellent squillo! There's a reason we call him "the Maestro". Domingo's voice is naturally bigger, but it's lower and doesn't have the spin to it. He is more interesting on stage however. In general I prefer Pavarotti because I'm not fond of the technique Domingo uses (mostly because he's a baritone).
"In general I prefer Pavarotti because I'm not fond of the technique Domingo uses (mostly because he's a baritone)."
haha, such a nasty blow, and funny. Domingo was not a lyric tenor like Pavarotti, which is what made him perfect for the role. Pavarotti was a great Rodolfo or Duke.

domingo was far an away a better cavaradossi. Great Pavarotti is good in this aria, but so (and better) is Domingo, and even more in the duet with tosca, and when he leaves with Angelotti, and in the 2nd act all the suffering and the vittoria, then again in the last act, e lucevan le stelle and the final duet, o dolci mani... As great pav said: "If you invite me to dinner and to please me you put a record of myself I would leave you there, if you want me to stay put a recording of Plácido".
OMGGGG!!!! please dont be ignorant, better cavaradossi??? OMg, please look E lucevan le stelle and tell me.... domingo does not even have the notes bro
I am not ignorant, I´ve been in the best theatres in the world, saw the greatest singers, & I do know singers, doctors, conductors, agents and people from theatre. I study the voice in many aspects.
Please, be respectfull when you comment. It is really funny for someone who knows how this works to see that poeple diminishes the talent of 2 consagrated artists.
for me, for prasing, colour of the voice, for intención, for sheer beaty of the voice, I prefer domingo on this role.
I appreciate your comment, I really do, It is nice to listen to the greatest singers in the greatest theatres. However, Domingo´s voice is way to dark and heave, and Pavarotti´s is too lyrical. I consider for example Corelli ( a spinto tenor) more adequate for the role of Maria. I need to point out that Pavarotti did great Tosca´s throughout his career. Regards
You are entitled to your opinion. Corelli was too Prima Donna and always upstaged his Soprano counterpart. He in his mind was deserving to be the best and almost was arrested because his EGO would not allow a New Soprano whom performed in her hometown to take a SOLO bow. His biography also stated he had pieces of sponges on Soprano's Sleeves & Curtain to insure he had adequate water supply, further walked off stage.. E G O. I am sure you made an error hisCharacter name is MARIO.
Pavarotti was a much better Cavaradossi, compare this with Domingo's performance at the Met a year earlier and you'll see why. Domingo shouts the high notes, Pavarotti doesn't.

Glassies--if you like a throaty, monohcromatic and pushed voice with a weak upper register it is your choice. Just don't suggest that it is better than this version from a purely operatic viewpoint. Get a clue!

THIS ARIA ALWAYS REMINDS ME OF MY DAYGHTERS,(BRUNI E BIONDE) THEIR HAIR COLORING. Notice he holds the long high note started prior to 'Sacrastan' saints & sinners and after. He said that this aria in beginning of Tosca, as Una Furtiva Lacrima of L'elisir D amore knew how well his performance was/ BRAVO LUCIANO .
Just magnificent as always. He brought so much beauty to this world. His voice and endearing personality will be with us forever. May his soul rest in peace.

"tu azzuro"--is really good
i like the way he covers/colors the "nel"
he always did that--on F. aida,la fleur,etc.
he keeps it spinning that's for sure. and it sounds urgent, not casual.
and the high notes have stringere and are compelling, right?

When Pavarotti sings Vestli la guibba I usualy cry espesialy in 1979 (Met, I think) production.
When Domingo sing Vesti la guibba he is more of a pretentious actor than a singer.
