  • Manra Rays: "BELLY FLOP!"

  • the rays are doing flaps

  • lol fap fap fap

  • That must be like jumping into outer space!

  • new evolution!

  • one day... they will learn to fly! and then im going to ride them o.o

  • I wonder what would happen if one of those jumped in the boat?

  • WHAT IF IT SUDDENLY JUMPS AT YOUR FACE???

  • @hpatdh077

    You shit yourself and duck.

Or be a boss and punch it in the face.

  • Lol there madd cute.

  • ...wannabe dolphins..

  • Sounds like the worlds largest toilet

  • Hahaha it thinks it can fly.

  • MANTINE USED FLY......but it failed

  • you know the law of evolution,

give them a little more time they will be flying about the ocean

  • Comment removed

  • Yep, they are "Lesser Devil Rays", NOT Mantas... Still nice, though....

  • the first sign of evolution fish will fly.....lol

  • I recongized this place by just watching the first two seconds of the video :D

    "los barriles"

  • I just love the sound they make when they flop back down to the water.

  • Giving new meaning to the term 'Belly Flop'

  • rays do this to stun a school of fish near the surface

  • why they're flying?,anyone knows??,

  • @TheHoshizawa, mating season.

  • and suddenly... MANTAS!

    Thousands of them...

  • Actually this is how Mantas clap. They were applauding.

  • the rays r on crack they think they can fly

  • @DbzFanMake LOL!!!! an other theory is some body drop some habanero chillis and mantas eated by mistake

  • he's like "get me out of this water...i wanna fly! plus i gotta get this shark off my tail" XD

  • One must of been around us early this morning, we were fishing and just as we brought up the baby shark we just got, something slammed into the back of the boat.

I thought at first it was a tail fin, except it was a flap sort of.

3 minutes later we saw a ray like this jump out of the water.

Might of just seen things with the fin, it was a massive bloody splash at the boat. Could of been some Turtle f-cking with us.

  • I saw these is Cabo when I was fishing, was a cool sight. I laugh listening to them slap the water.

  • hes trying to evolve his species into skies i tell you!

  • well they say 2012 will be the big change.maybe mantarays will fly XD

  • Exactly what I was thinking. In a million years their fins will grow longer and stronger and then they will cruise the skies hunting for seabirds.

  • Don't you see? They weren't satisfied with Irwin, now they're practicing to pick people off of boats! Beware the seas! Repent your sins, love thy neighbor's dog, THE END IS NIGH!

  • that was so awesome!!

  • I remember as a child fishing with my pop pop and his brother on a small boat in the ocean. I was wondering what was in the depths of the sea. I hooked something on the bottom, it was huge and heavy, didn't fight much but it was heavy, after about an hour of reeling, my little hand was so cramped I could barely use it. Then the creature broke the surface, it was black with golden marbling, at least 5 feet across, they cut the line at the surface. God showed me what was down there.giant manta..

  • You got so owned by a stupid creature??

If u wanna catch it, u must use shotgun or something :P. Dunno if they are close to instinction, incase of that. Its a bad idea to get them at all perhaps

  • they aren't "stupid creatures"

  • they arent stupid they are beatiful.

  • Yes they are beautifull to =)

  • lool y do they do that, is it to get rid of fish that tag along, and paracites? ....lol it sounds like they belly flopping coz of the slapping sound

  • soulweed :D

  • WTF

  • they are trying to copy the flying fish

  • keeping up with the jones's

  • its more jumping than flying isnt it?....

  • yes the big ones jump2 but i only have seen 1video thats made from underwater

  • are these really small manta rays?

    do the big ones jump?

  • yes to both questions. these are pygmy devil rays and big ones (mantas) do jump, but only a few inches off the water.

  • Record size ray in Thailand up to 1600lbs.

  • They sound like painful bellyflops! Sadly there was a lady from Michigan that died when a spotted eagle ray jumpped and struck her in the head. I'm not kidding! It was on the news!

  • lol manta rays are cooler than i thought. this is so funny hearing all of them just slap the water

  • Nuh uh. He was diving from a cliff and was swimming near shore and he swam over a ray that felt threatened and stabbed him. The stab likely wouldn't have been fatal, but he removed the barb underwater.

  • I think he died because it stabbed him in the heart. He bled to death, and odds are he would've even if he didn't remove the barb.

  • He died filming a documentary about STING RAYS!! for his daughter. The stinger struck him when he was above the sting ray. Not Manta Ray

  • damn killer stingrays.

  • look ma i can fly... kinda

  • you live in the sea not the air stupid rays!

  • Or perhaps eagle rays?

  • if those are mantarays, thats 2 tonnes coming outta the water, and 2 tonnes coming down haaaard

  • acttual they come up to 1.5 tons and can jump up to i think 15 feet out of the water. i think that they can grow to 20 feet across.

  • Actually they can grow to 25. Pretty big...but so majestic...

  • look! LMAO xD

  • They are certainally NOT Manta Rays. They are much smaller "Devil Rays" or "Mobula Rays" Still a cool vid tho ;)

  • amazing video ^.^

  • I did a few dives in Indonesia and had the pleasure of seeing a giant manta on 2 seperate occasions. On the second time when we were getting back in the boat it lept completly out of the water..... at 3 meters tip to tip it was really awesome and i feel fortunate to have had the experience!!! really cool video

  • I didn't knew that mantas fly... so maybe the pixies song about dancing mantarays can be true. : )

  • Hehehehe....dear god Mr. Stranger, I adore people who think like you. Who says mantas don't dance? Flowers sing, too.

  • That's freaking beautiful !

  • leaping clear of the surface is normally to escape predators.

  • They are beauties. Seen them also this winter. Just they happen to be eagle rays, although they probably told you differently.

  • Very cool, swam with these in Grand Cayman never saw them do this!

  • amazing!

  • Wow, that's cool. I hope to scuba with manta rays next summer.

  • they are celebrating killing that auzzie steve erwin.

  • ROTFLOL

  • LOL

  • wow bellyfloping in. that must hurt

  • kewl

  • how many Cousteau and National Geographic specials have I seen in my life - ? and have never seen that before. cool.

  • thats pretty crazy

  • Amazing animals.

  • kewl

  • nice

  • Very cool video! Awesome!

  • lol I didn't know they could do that! awesome !!

  • ha...never knew they did that

  • I was fishing last week in malta and I noticed this 2 meter manta fish next to the boat running after a group fish. Then it just hopped out of the water and down on top of them. SO I assume it's some way of huntinG!

  • Never seen that behavior before... wonder what they do that for? Do manta rays like to have fun?

  • LOl

  • thats so cool

  • wtf? funny

  • - - manta ray's wing span is about our height and stingrays r ppretty small n i think those r stingrays just a guess

  • that was just retarded. look, i can jump, wee! frikin fish

  • Can the bigger ones jump as well? They seem a bit too slow to get any real air like the ones in this shot. I must have seen a psyched out animation of a giant blue one once as a child...

  • If you surf lots, then chances are you have seen this action before... I have, many many times... Off the Gold Coast QLD Australia

  • Yeah. blacktomato75.These people on here are CRAZY.Everybody knows what a bunch of goddamn showoffs fish really are.Just go to seaworld and see them jumping all over the damn place to get the fish or whatever.

  • Duh, you guys. Barnacles, breathing, pphhht. They do it to look at the people on the surface. No people means no jumping. Have you ever seen a whale or ray jump out of the water when there's nobody looking? NO! (see Heisenberg)

  • If a tree falls in the forest, and nobody is around to see it, does it make a sound?

  • im refering to zachass of course.

  • Now I can prove it. My friends thought I was crazy when I said I saw a flying manta ray on the beach in florida. Thanks for putting this up.

  • The fishing explanation is most likely, because barnacles only attach to things that stay still for periods of time, supports, docks, rocks. I see no reason why they should attach to something that move as much as manta rays. I tell you what though, catching manta rays is super fun when they are like 60+ pounds. Up until you realize what it is and you get pissed off you just wasted 30 minutes hauling in something thats pointless.

  • Wow is right. I've never seen that before. Whereabouts would that be?

  • Is that why the whales do it too? Moron! I agree with the barnacle explanation!

  • Your a complete dumb ass. Whales jump out of the water to breathe because they are mammals and breathe like them. When they jump out of the water they are exhaling and inhaling. So now whos the moron?

  • You just made a complete dumbass/moron/douche out of yourself. YOU'RE WRONG and YOU'RE the moron. whales and other cetaceans don't leap (called breaching) out of the water to breathe. that's what they surface the water for, and that's when you see the tall water spout go into the air. when they leap out of the water, they do it for play and to get rid of barnacles and parasitic animals on their bodies by stunning them when they make impact with the water's surface after a jump.

  • You are the moron, moron. Whales breach for many reasons, none of which include breathing...

  • If I know fish, I can tell you that a predator (big) was most likely trying to eat them for lunch, thats how they try to escape not how they feed. Can anyone say Shark?

  • lawl n00b

  • were they eating?? catching flys? what??

  • Apparently the impact on the water (when they land) helps get barnacles off their bodies. No sharks... at least let's hope there weren't any around.

  • wow.

  • BIZARRE!!!

  • holy shit, i had no figgan idea they did that
